  1. all hybrids are a joke. the people who buy them dont give a hairy rats ass about anything else other than the fact that they think they are better than everyone else. the prius? yeah, its different looking. ugly if you ask me. i almost threw up looking at one. granted i was already feeling queasy when it lurched passed me but i had to hold it down....its underwhelming in the sense that a bicycle offers more thrills and it couldnt even pull a wet stick out of a dogs ass if it had to. but hybrid buyers are special. they like to think that they are doing something good for the earth. rattles? squeaks? inexcusably long 0-60 and 1/4 mile times mussing up the rest of the flow of traffic. pish posh. aside from major modes of public transportion there really is no measurable benefit from hybrids. its no wonder gm didnt want to full endorse this course of action. but the market demands that they do so. so here it is. but its still not good enough. anyone considering a hybrid wont be turned off because what this guy is saying.
  2. there isnt enough differentiation, absolutely. but the thing is i prefer the sts over the cts. cadillac is "rebuilding" and entering territory it hasnt is manhy a year. i dont think its too far fetched to say they were testing the waters with these first reiterations. what better way to gauge market perception than with two cehicles that are so close in appearance and size. and on the same platform. its a two-fer. i hope gm has been listening and doing its homework and the next gens will both be showstoppers and fill the voids that were seemingly neglected. if i were to make presumptions based on the srx id say they are bringing it on home.
  3. 9/10 times the most expensive cars i see in and around the city are mercedes and bmws. i just saw a gorgeous sl500 amg today. right next to a brand new escalade as a matter of fact. and a few range rovers....and then a dumpy little aveo cruising right in front....odd to say the least. my brother who isnt a car guy even noticed the whole thing playing out. but yes that niche is hard nut to crack. most benz buyers are just that. benz buyers. especially in that price range. i was waving at a guy waiting to cross the street in downtown manhattan earlier to go ahead and cross and he wouldnt budge... and i joked with my friend he wouldnt let a guy driving a pontiac wave him ahead. i made it clear and he moved eventually... its a market that rarely gives another vehicle the time of day.
  4. not only that but this car is going to look silly in a few short years. that interior has way too much going on. it has more buttons than a keyboard and looks like an atm. there is no one single plane. all the views are skewed and angles are awkward looking to me. im sure there will be plenty of takers and it is nicely priced and equipped but to quote hyundais call letters, hope you understand nothing is driveabvle and inexpensive. notorious cost cutting will reveal the entire undercarriage is made from recycled coke cans and breadsticks. and the motor really doesnt make me go ooooh either. i find it irritating and obnoxious. im sure it performs admirably but id grow tired of it. but hey, to each his own. im from the less is more school of thought. not the more for less.
  5. i think theyre still using racing fuel to get their numbers. at least now i hear adverts that say "hp #s attained with premium fuel" they just dont say how premium.
  6. pontiacs job isnt to lick the balls of import buyers. import buyers arent going to consider a pontiac with all the nice plastic and commodious interiors you pine about. naming it the commodore will only alienate whatever pontiac fans currently exist and cheese off the "import" crowds because it will be viewed as a ringer. power and performance are the abundant traits to concern yourself with. if you cant get in a car without going "eww" and make that the focus you come off sounding pretentious and like you woke up on the snobby side of the bed. pontiacs perform and may not rock everyones canoe but when you blow by some jack off in a car thats massaging his nuts as you merge on the interstate the last thing on your mind is that piece of plastic that looks too high gloss. no theyre not for everyone but all cars use cheap plastics in some way or another. cars with crappy interiors that people like will call them spartan. or utilitarian. or some other smug eupheism... as a matter of fact ive seen the same cheap looking plastics on acuras and toyotas and subarus. that just usually gets brushed aside though. another dog and pony show for us to enjoy.
  7. if im not mistaken the largest mopar bone yard is located in alabama. maybe someone can confirm, but that might be in your future plans if youre serious and going for an all out rebuid.
  8. thanks, 76. it was actually an ac compressor that is slightly out of place. quick fix. the motor is shoved in there pretty good its a chore to check the power steering fluid even when its cold.
  9. the car of tomorrow is just another marketing ploy by nascar. they know not all the manufacturers are going to stick around and the models wont all fit into their special template brand of racing. its not for driver safetyh or anything else but an extension of their livelihood. stickers and brands will only get you so far. i still only consider the last monte carlo the 1987 ish ones. even thought the new fwd ones have grown on me they still arent the monte carlo i think of. im not too saddened by this, i just hope the next one if it comes back evokes the same fondeness the name deserves.
  10. i guess you just get spoiled ina ll that honda greatness. the ridgeline is for people who want to be coddled while they drive. there is nothing substantial at all about that creation. it does not one thing special, except maybe the interior as yyou have alluded to. well big f'n deal. real trucks dont coddle you. you expect everything to be where youy nees and want it and thats it. spend some time in them doing what they are supposed to do and you tell me what works best. some things you just cant copy. these are the best damn trucks out there and it will be reflected in the sales. they are built to perform and surpass each previous generation and considering theyve been around almost 100 years theyve got a lot to work with.
  11. i hate numbers. especially when used in such meaningless ways as this. 30 hummer dealerships for 48 states, at least...hah yeah right ok. that makes sense. self serving shiiite
  12. ...and theyre doing it the right way.
  13. and the narket as whole is over 1200. whats good f
  14. the original idea from what i recall was to introduce rather stunning designs and then soften them up for the next generation. a lot of the more controversial designs usually win over respect eventually. mbenz can crap out a log like the r class and let it win acclaim over time. they set the standard. therir designs for the most part only get better with time. im sure it will taper off eventually but they certainly enjoy that ride while it lasts. like cadillac was at one time. the only differenve being more cadillacs are and will always be remembered more fondly. and looked upon that way forever. only the gull wing benz comes to mid instantly as classic whereas caddys list is a little longer. you dont forget a history like the one cadillac has enjoyed. i think theyre going forward in the right direction and will one day soon be the standard of the world again.
  15. they should just get kerorian and wagoner in a ring and settle it. no holds barred. he can still keep york as a corner man. now thats a battle.
  16. yeah, heres another w pile. cant do much without those 2 other cylinders
  17. whoa, settle down. lets not everyone answer at once. did i mention theres a treat for the one who gets it closest. eh, nevermind. i reckon its kinda hard to tell over the intranet. its going to my friends shop this weekend when i get time.
  18. i have a 00 grand prix and when the wheel is cut all the way left there is an horrendous rubbing/scraping kind of noise coming from the right front. its most noticeable from a stopped position, as say pulling out of a parking space. it rides great and handles fine any ideas??.
  19. more uncle bob. http://www.venturacountystar.com/vcs/busin...5071127,00.html gotta love that optimism.
  20. dont even get started about cvts.
  21. they need a snappy name.
  22. those sound like some good demonstrations, but who did the driving? i have no doubt that these trucks are purpose built to out perform and live up to all the expectations and history of the nameplate and not just some slapped together reversed engineneered piece of crap with fancy numbers... im just curious as to who was doing the driving. i noted a while ago about the increase in tortional stiffness from the previous gen, about 200+% and add in the already rock solid rep you know its gonna perform. im just skeptical by nature about tests like these i suppose. its one of those things where id like to see a rag like cr or whomever else try it out... and them watch them have to undeniably label it superior to the competetion... i have no reservations whatsoever about the quality of GM trucks, and yet somehow they keep improving upon them. ina any event sure beats a day in the office.
  23. theyre already partially responsible for tower records going bankrupt. one of the largest record/cd music stores in the city is gone because walmart can afford to undercut them. they take the loss just to get people in the store to by the other crap they sell. they must be going after virgin now. most the older places folded long ago. cds cost pennies to make anyway so no matter how you slice it, its gonna be a rip off. just sad is all.
  24. we dont need no stinking rebadges. you should try adding some fiber into your diet.
