Fiat News: Marchionne Still Dreams of A FCA-GM Merger
Cmicasa the Great replied to William Maley's topic in Fiat
Yeah.. I kno. I'm a GM or Ford kinda guy since 1998. Before Chrysler hooked up with Daimler. Either way.. I am still looking at it from a business standpoint.. and business wise a GM/FCA hook-up would only spawn issues with the union at this point. On top of that the overlap if GM revitalized Dodge and Chrysler alone would be massive. If they were gonna do that they may as well of just reopened Pontiac. That would give em 500K sales instantly.. For the Jeep thing.. Again I call for a trim level based solely on the Canyon that emulates.. U guessed it. the Hummer H3, H3T and Hx concept- 114 replies

Fiat News: Marchionne Still Dreams of A FCA-GM Merger
Cmicasa the Great replied to William Maley's topic in Fiat
Yes Stew.. I have to agree with Smk and Hyper on this one. FCA is for all intents a 3 Trick Pony.. in that they have Jeep. But then they have Ram.. and LX cars NOT being updated in order to pay the bills. Look at the fact that FCA's profits are very weak considering the last two points made. One good update to Ram and profit SAP is on the way. One good spike in Fuel costs and BOOM.. their reliance on the SRT "We Build Excitement" (lol) goes away. Jeep is really the only thing that I could see GM really wanting.. Maserati would probably be desirable to Ford. Ferrari is gone on its own. Alfa is really nothing to write home about. Chrysler is pretty much a minivan. They have no.. and I mean no small cars in the mainstream brand (Dodge). They have no.. and I mean no mid-size in the mainstream brand. Pretty much FCA in the U.S. is Charger cop cars, Challenger, Ram, and Jeep... oh and a minivan. Personally I see no reason for Mary to even consider it once those facts are presented. Does GM need SRT?? Hell no. The Camaro alone does everything that the performance cars at Dodge do better. They have the capability, and frankly the necessity for scale to build an Omega or Alpha-L Impala that could put the Charger on the flatbed. Does GM need Ram??? Hell no. Come on. Does GM need Jeep??? Not even. GMC could easily take on Jeep I think if they wanted to.- 114 replies

Pessimism is high with some I see. Look the bottom line is that GM, as a foreign company, has a hard time breaking even with Opel/Vaux, let alone making a profit.. as evidenced by the 17 years of profit loss. Think about the fact that they have LOST $20 Billion since 2000. That's not chump change.. and it has more to do with the Unions over there and its close connection with the gov'ts and brand loyalty than anything else. See the fact that Ford has a hard time as well. I venture to say that had GM not had Opel last year.. they would have pulled in $14 Billion gross as opposed to $12B. The loss of 1.2 Million units can be picked up too.. even if they simply looking to expand incrementally in the US, China, S. Korea and S. America. Hell.. GM could pick up about 500K sales alone just by going back into a fleet sales.. despite their profits not being as high.. they still could make an ACTUAL PROFIT off of them. Of course I see the positive. What Wall St, enthusiasts, and realists alike have wanted for the last 20 years.. for GM to stop chasing sales and chase profits allowing for better products. I also find it silly to think that their engineering will suffer since airplanes exist, allowing them to, at will, still go the ring.. and headhunters exits..allowing them to hire who they like. Lastly.. if size is an issue.. GM still has the option of simply merging with FCA and instantly being #1 again Last year GM sold 9.97 Million.. putting them in #3 behind VW and Toy.. and slightly ahead of Rena/Nissan at 9.96 The loss of 1.2 Million would result in them having been at 8.77 last year still keeping them at #4. Keep in mind that this still resulted in GM being more profitable than almost all.

As I said before.. the Opel/Vaux engineering is still GM engineering. I will add that the true benefit having them was specifically to cater to certain aspects of Euro market.. outside of that market their necessity drops. I will also add that in terms of chassis development, engines, styling, and quality control.. the NA hub has been spectacular in the last decade on its own. Those worried about shared Opel and Buick vehicles.. should fret not.. the Regal and Encore at least will still be offered as the would have been before this sale. Lastly.. GM might actually end up making more money in the next 2 years off of Opel/Vaux that they would have in 2020 due to the fact that PSA does have to pay them licensing. OH.. and that "Non-Compete" with Chevy markets includes U.S. and China from what I read

and.. its a wagon.. we all kno your love of WAGONS That being said.. I think that from a business standpoint Porsche is doing the right thing. Basically they made a CUV outta their best selling "car." They are giving it variants.. and it will look damn good on the sales charts as well as the balance sheet. Everything I have said that Cadillac should do with everyone of its cars.. including the CT6, with exception to XTS. Imagine a time when CTS was selling 5000 per month. Yup.. that was when there was a coupe and a wagon.. and a VSeries of all. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.. a cheap way of making more profits on a particular CAR.. not just a platform.. give it a variant with more/less doors or a hatch and call it NEW

It wasn't meant to be a direct comparison of the Ford systems, but ironic due to U praising Ford's system.. any system while trying to dog of the GM one while in that very same article Ford's other system was being pissed on.. The biggest part was I've used the Ford system.. both.., and had no issue with either. Point is that if the media.. or FANBOIS such as yourself hear one thing that is wrong their fuckin ears perk up and it is forever their go to response for everything... "Hey man.. did U hear Cadillac's ATS is the best handling car in its class 5 years running.. with newer competitors still not able to beat it??? " Your response... " Yeah.. but man I hate CUE." "Dude.. Cadillac's CTS-V is awesome.. can do the 1/4 in 11.4@126 and looks great doing it.. full of luxury.." Your Response... "Yeah... but man I hate CUE." "Bro.. Did U see that new CT6? Full of luxury.. damn near puts the S-Class on the rollback for $10K Less." Your Response... "Yeah.. but man I hate CUE" "OMG.. Cadillac.. Yes.. CADILLAC just won 24 Hours at Lemans" Your Response.. "Yeah.. but man I hate CUE." My response to U??? "Dude.. can U just go yourself and be done with it." -

Look at that.. GM's all truck/SUV/CUV brand was up the most. Buick is hurting from the loss of the Verano, and aged Enclave, and a new changeover of the LaX. They really should have brought the Astra over or gave Buick a version of the Cruze Hatch. Wow on the Bolt and Volt. The Equinox, Terrain, Encore, XT5 and Trax continue to impress- 16 replies

Whatever Bro... U sit in one ATS and have problems fiddling with CUE.. and both myself and dfelt actually OWN and DRIVE.. and DEAL WITH.. CUE and yet.. your word is gospel on the matter. Like I said.. if its your first or even second time dealing with an all touch-screen system.. yeah.. I get that U feel handicapped.. but don't come at me or anyone who has actually spent time with the system and tell us that its shit.. cause it isn't. Not to mention.. its only getting better, more bountiful, and faster. As to your Focus.. ironically.. and interesting enough.. U musta missed this part of the article.. : With CUE.. I religiously use it while I'm doing hairpin turns, +.7gs.. 120+mph.. and stroking my lady's thigh. No distraction at all -

But again.. Look at the pic.. After an hour of driving this car U would be an IDIOT.. to come in here and say that this is an issue. First of all the BLUE (Cooler) and RED (Hotter) Sensors are literally set over physical material that guides the finger . The Volume Adjuster is cool as ice.. one only needs to slide their finger over the physical metal/plastic and volume adjusts instantly... just like a button. I won't even mention that whatever changes are made are also put up on the big Display No.. Fuck That. I AGREE that U are simply wrong. The Salesman U dealt with was a dumbass. -

^^^but in the bandwagon spirit of things.. U kno the one where they find one thing that was complained about by some numbskull who had a problem with Caddy to begin with.. and suddenly it's the new thing for all who compare it with others to bitch about.. A whole year with CUE and I can't seem to find any more wrong with it than I do with every other Touchscreen device I have at my disposal.. From phone to tablet to computer screen to refrigerator UI. -

No offense, but that simply is not true. For each time U tap the screen U get haptic feedback letting U know that the temp has moved. If U looked it in the beginning.. for example.. and it was at 70.. and U wanted it at 74.. U would tap it the appropriate amount of times to get there.. and haptic feedback would allow U to "feel" the amount of times U went up no different than a click of a button. Its the same thing.. and people need to get it in their heads that it is just the way of the future. Less parts.. and basically just programming and sensors underneath. Brilliant in my mind.. and no different than having a touch screen radio or media center. Truth.. if U are telling me that U drive.. and never look down.. eyes on the road all the way.. not even at your radio display or hell.. cell phone.. then I'm just gonna call U a Bull-Shitter. -

How much U wanna be the REAL reason why the XTS is on there is for CUE.. which is more a reason to band people for being stupid in not being able to operate a touch-screen in 2011 let alone 2017 but.. I'll quote: So basically Caddy got hit for being too much like the new Continental. and OLD MKS.. which is on the list for similar attributes... that every one of Ford's fans swear is what's right with American luxury.. soft and cruisy -
Hell no is right. OK.. yeah.. so I park my ride.. that I take extra care with when I drive.. and if a speck of dust gets on it.. even the lowly Equinox my daughter is kickin.. and I'm ready to break out the bucket and hose.. and U thinking I'm gonna hand some unknown clown the keys for free parking at the airport?

Seriously.. in my days of yore.. working on my Iroc-Z.. never did I think that one day the name Camaro would be capable of beating the shit outta 911s on a race course. Again.. this Camaro is the proof positive that Corvette needs to be on its own... and Camaro take-over as the flagship for Chevy

Nice power bump considering, but is there any benefit in going 3 cylinder vs 4

Well I think the larger concern is that U have competition from Audi, BMW etc.. even Lexus, with higher V6 hp/torque numbers while Cadillac continues to use the na 3.6 that has less torque than its own turbo 4. What ticks me off is that they don't even make it optional to have a detuned LGW.. or LF3, both under utilized... cover a sweet spot of both torque and hp in these vehicles.

I agree. I literally got goose bumps on both ads. The one that they did about unity hit the same nerve but on a political basis. Finally seeing the Vseries being utilized to show its command.. the CT6 in its glory.. Escalade.. And XT5 looking regal.. ATS was absent though, as was the XTS. Could be because they are the oldest but still. Loved seeing the Escala in motion.. out on the street. It would put every flagship on notice to cower in a closed garage if it hit the streets today.. Hell next year. Simply gorgeous
