  1. how is GM coming along with that 3 valve v8 they were working with? i think it was slated for 09 GMT900's... but i dont know any clues? I'm sure GM looks at the LS4, and the Northstar, and wonders why the northstar is being produced... i'm sure the LS4 is cheaper, and if they updated the ls4 with the new ls3's technology instead of the ls1's technology, i'm sure GM can make an even nicer motor for cadillac to pride itsef on.
  2. its better not to compare GEO with Scion... the botom line is, toyota is trying to use whatever it takes to take the number 1 spot...
  3. any bets on how the Impala or Malibu or going to do next year...? think the malibu will break into this top 20, or the impala will pick up all the gp sales?
  4. according to the article it didnt matter if Geo was counted as Chevys (although i think they were) because Geo had bowties in their emblem, although small... they were there... Scion has no toyota badge
  5. i think he was talking about global sale toyota vrs GM... and global sales will be released later this month... probably around the 23 or so...
  6. i dont understand if GM will discontinue the Grand Prix, and expect the pontiac G8 to replace it if its only intending to bring 30k to the states... but maybe the grand prix's days arent quite over... who knows... what does GM have to launch besides astra and g8 this year?
  7. Jan. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Toyota Motor Corp.'s namesake division may declare itself the No. 1 auto brand in the U.S. for 2007. General Motors Corp.'s Chevrolet won't agree. The dispute pivots on one question: How should sales of Toyota's Scion cars be tallied? At stake are bragging rights that go with the top-selling line of autos in the U.S. Toyota's count includes Scion, cars that bear no Toyota badges and are marketed separately. By that measure, the Japanese automaker's lead through November sets the stage for a full-year win. Leave Scion out, and Chevy will likely retake the title when results are released tomorrow. ``I don't think for a second that Scion is a Toyota vehicle; it's clearly its own brand,'' said Tom Libby, an analyst for J.D. Power and Associates. ``You might as well count Pontiac vehicles as Chevrolet sales if you think Scion's a Toyota.'' Overtaking Chevrolet, the largest of GM's seven U.S. brands, would mark another triumph for Toyota. The Toyota City, Japan- based automaker passed Ford Motor Co. in the past year to become the No. 2 seller of autos in the U.S. and is threatening to pass GM in global sales. ``We don't consider Scion a part of the Toyota brand,'' said Terry Rhadigan, a GM spokesman for the Chevrolet division. ``On our scoreboard, we're leading.'' Countered Toyota spokesman Xavier Dominicis: ``We've always counted it that way, and it's sold only at Toyota dealerships.'' A 14 percent sales decline through Nov. 30 at Ford's main division put Chevrolet in a position to retake the sales title it won in 2005. The Ford brand trailed the Toyota division, without Scion, by nearly 66,000 units at the end of November. Different Strokes J.D. Power, of Westlake Village, California, separates Scion from Toyota in its tallies, as does Ward's Automotive Reports, of Southfield, Michigan. Another compiler of sales statistics, Autodata Corp., includes Scion in its Toyota-brand total. Through November, the Toyota-Chevrolet race was tight enough to hinge on Scion. Including Scion, Toyota sold 2,101,804 cars and light trucks, for a 35,524-unit advantage. Without Scion's 121,237 vehicles, Chevrolet would be on top by 85,713. Toyota says that unlike the luxury Lexus division, whose vehicles are sold at distinct dealerships and tallied separately, Scion was always intended to be a branch of the main brand. The automaker adopted that standard when the cars made their U.S. debut in 2003. Scion's three models are the xB, xD and tC. Remembering Geo Counting Scions as Toyotas echoes an approach Chevrolet used when it tallied the Geo line of cars as its own, said David Lucas, an analyst with Autodata in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. He said his company registers Scion sales for Toyota because the automaker insists they are part of its main brand. At its peak of 325,143 units in 1990, the Geo line made up 13 percent of Chevrolet's U.S. sales, according to Autodata. In comparison, Scion sales accounted for 7.8 percent of the Toyota division in 2006. In 1990, Toyota trailed Chevrolet by 1.6 million vehicles. Rhadigan said GM made it clear Geos were aligned with Chevrolet because they bore a diminutive Chevy bowtie in the middle of the vehicles' front-end logo, designed to look like a globe, whereas Scion vehicles aren't identified as being part of Toyota. Geos were sold exclusively at Chevrolet dealerships before the line was suspended following the 1997 model year. U.S. sales for Toyota may have dropped 4 percent last month due in part to a 6 percent decline in truck sales, said Chicago- based Lehman Brothers analyst Brian Johnson in a note today. He expects GM to report a 6 percent decline. Toyota trailed GM in global sales by about 10,000 units at the end of 2007's third quarter, after leading in the first half by 39,000. Global sales results will be released later this month. GM fell 48 cents to $24.41 at 4:02 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading, its sixth straight decline and its lowest since May 2006. Toyota's American depositary receipts rose 29 cents to $106.46. To contact the reporter on this story: Greg Bensinger in New York at [email protected]
  8. hardly anyone really needs a tahoe? have you ever been to LA, or any city with a large hispanic presence... have you ever seen a household that has over 10 people in it, and that likes to go on trips or take the whole family to the mall or theater or wherever... maybe i'm just stupid, maybe its because i worked at a dealership that i understand the demand for large vehicles, do i feel sorry for families that cram 6,7 maybe even 8 people into a mid size sedan? You might be right about one thing, its not as needed as it is sold... does it need to be outselling the number one car of the year? probably not... does the tahoe & suburban need a 50% market share of full size SUV's sure why not? But people DO NEED SUV's and CUV's and vehicles that fit more people...
  9. if i read the article correctly, i see that the silverado is not included in the cafe rules, meaning... GM could average its fuel ecconomy off of some cobalt and astras against premium sedans like the cts or impala ss that may not acheive the correct fuel ecconomy... the Geo got 45-50 mpg... GM can make things that achieve the fuel ecconomy standards... efficency has been improving, but demand for power has also been rising... the question is... who will be the automaker to back down from power to accomidate fuel ecconomy, and who will look to new methods to achieve better results... rwd vrs fwd... is not a problem of efficency its a gaging reflex... so many people who said OK Bob lets have it your way, are acusing him of wrong doing... its a second guess... if sales rebound, then GM has more money to pay for new design, if sales dont, GM can scrap it and use an old tranny or what have you... see how the G8 does... if you use more expensive materials, better intakes, better exhaust, more finely tuned camshafts and heads, fuel ecconomy is not hard to acheive... AFM and VVT are just small steps to a totally redefined motor...
  10. to be honnest gm never really deals out the HD trucks like other models... i would assume rebates to be anywhere from 500 to 2500 it depends on how much they are selling... if they need to move models to help keep production moving slowly they will increase it... typically summer months are your best for manufacture rebates... and winter months are best for dealer discounts... and fall and spring are some combination of the two
  11. the haze over LA... its a natural basin... it naturally collects smog, and other pollutants... if no one lived in Los Angeles, it would still look that way... it has always had a problem with pollution even with the native americans... i forgot what they nicknamed the city but it was along the lines of black sky or smoke sky, because the mountains would retain their fire smoke or smoke signals or whatever... you want to see polutants? look at China or India... in recent years the great wall of china hasnt been visible from space on some days due to the thick pollution, a massive grey haze covering all of southern asia...
  12. like i said in the other area... if you get bigger tires, it reduces your power per rotation... so technically you should receive better fuel ecconomy and have less towing power with bigger tires... that is untrue because mud tires or oversized tires are genearlly very heavy, and instead of having just a larger wheel you have more weight in every rotation of your tire, and also more friction due to the mud tires... not sure what size your standard tires are... and not sure what size your 35's will be but granted their bigger, and if your saying the duramax cant go any bigger then 31's (i can assume stock tires are smaller then that...) and if you switched from 31's to 35's that would be the same as changing from a 4.10 to a 3.73... so if i were you i would definatly get the 4.10's or else you'll have a truck that cant do anything...
  13. well if you are going to increase the size of your tires, you are actually reducing your power by increasing distance traveled per rotation of tire. so if you add 35's you will be better off with the 4.10's in my opinion... keep in mind, on all vehicles, mud tires, or oversized tires, generally consume more fuel and make an annoying noise (in my humble opinion any way) also sometimes if done inproperly i've seen the tires rub on the sheet metal around the front tires or the plastic or whatever exposed material... just keep in mind not all lift kits and oversize tires that fit are what you want... being at the dealership i've seen many shotty jobs, so just be careful. so... thats all up to you, if i were your salesperson, i'd urge you to get it packaged into your loan, so i could make the commission, but i'm not the salesperson, i'm trying to answer your questions so that you may make the decision... i'll say this... you cant go wrong with the 4.10's... although you might bring a knife to a gun fight if you get the 3.73's... but only you know how much you load your vehicle down... most times the vehicles (expecially gm's) ratings are what lawyers are comfrotable advertising... not necessarily the trucks capability... my 3500 is rated for 6000 lbs in the bed... i beleive that and more... i've sold a customer who added a 2000 lbs wood stake bed... and then puts 8000 lbs on top of his 3500... so if you think of that payload of 6000 lbs, and think that i've got people putting 10,000 lbs on it on a daily basis... GMC's and Chevys make hell of a truck...
  14. your all over the place... Active fuel management... is a cylinder diactivation... (collapsable intake lifters) avalible on only a few engines... if you notice below, the intake is different between the two engines, and i believe the heavy duty to have cast iron heads, but i could be wrong... generally iorn is used for workhorse motors, that will take the abuse of day long hauls... they react to heat better, aluminum just helps keep it cool, but they cannot take the 260 degrees that an iorn motor can... Flex Fuel, capable of burning E85... engines are the same... Ethonal, is an alchol that eats rubber, E85 requires plumbing to be reworked with a material that doesnt disolve, then gumming up your injectors... also the use of E85, will result in less fuel ecconomy (not what you want, nor most haulers) Vortec MAX 6.0L V8 engine features: (1500) Thundering 367 horsepower @ 5500 rpm 375 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4300 rpm More horsepower than any half-ton engine offered by Ford, Dodge or Nissan(1) EPA estimated MPG 13 city/18 highway in 2WD models EPA estimated MPG 13 city/17 highway in 4x4 models High-speed air movement deep inside the combustion chamber, which generates a better fuel-to-air mixture Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology that optimizes combustion, enhances low-end torque and high-end power, promotes fuel efficiency, and helps lower emissions A cast-iron crankshaft with undercut and rolled fillets High-flow cast-aluminum cylinder heads that feature a low-friction roller-rocker valvetrain Electronic Throttle Control that provides outstanding throttle response, greater reliability and improved efficiency A fast, smart Engine Control Module with plenty of memory synchronizes the multitude of engine operations that occur every split second Hydraulic engine mounts for improved vibration isolation A coil-near-plug ignition system for a precise delivery of high-energy spark Vortec 6.0L V8 engine features: (2500) Thundering 353 hp @ 5400 rpm (312 hp @ 4400 rpm in 3500HD Big Dooley models) Class-leading standard heavy-duty horsepower in 2500HD and 3500HD Single Rear-Wheel models(1) 373 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4400 rpm High-speed air movement deep inside the combustion chamber, which generates an ideal fuel-to-air mixture Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology that optimizes combustion, enhances low-end torque and high-end power, promotes efficiency, and helps lower emissions A cast-iron crankshaft with undercut and rolled fillets A thermoplastic composite intake manifold that helps keep the air intake cool, and equal-length runners that feature smooth interior passages to promote high-speed airflow to each cylinder Electronic Throttle Control that provides outstanding throttle response, greater reliability and improved efficiency Hydraulic engine mounts for improved vibration isolation A faster, smarter Engine Control Module with more memory that better synchronizes the multitude of engine operations that occur every split second A coil-near-plug ignition system for a precise delivery of high-energy spark This of course all thanks to CHEVY.com as for the ratings... when payload and other load bearing ratings are developed, they are the vehicles rating of the weakest link... many times the motor the transmission brakes can handle 25,000lb trailor, perhaps not with the same enthusiasm. but things to consider are axels, brakes, driveshafts, differentials, transmissions, engines, cooling systems, and frame... perhaps i missed something... but when certain equipment is put on vehicles, sometimes other equipment is packaged with it... on my 3500 8.1L i've got 4.10's i dont beleive the 3.73's are an option... but sometimes with a different differential, you might get a bigger axel, bigger brakes... who knows... my parents had an old F350, and when fully loaded... sometimes it had trouble going up hills... one in particular, if the truck was overloaded, we'd have to take the horses out of the trailor and walk them to the top because the truck just couldnt accelorate... once they replaced the rear end with a lower end (either 4.10's 4.11's or 4.56's i forget) it had no trouble hauling the same weight up the hill... but the point of the story, isnt that fords suck, we have newer and more powerful trucks... its that sometimes, that 200$ option could save you a lot of hassel...
  15. AFM is not avalible on the HD motors, it may be offered on the VortecMaxx(more power then hd 6.0) motor, but i have forgotten reguardless... with the 3.73 vs the 4.10... the 4.10's have almost a 10% more power advantage over the 3.73... the 3.73's also may be less durable... but i think the reasoning behind the less gross combinded vehicular weight rating, is the transmission will likely hunt for the right gears when loaded if its got too much weight on it... and eventaully wear out your transmission prematurely
  16. sounds to me like they are making way for a 39 billion dollar Trust Fund... is it coincedice that that is the aproximated amount they were going to put asside for it...? is it coincidence that that is the approximate cash that they have? or what about the fact they have an opperating profit of 122 million for this quarter...?
  17. i think this is a perfect example of how toyota's focus has gone away from quality to quanity... it was GM's downfall to worry about every other business except for their own cars... and now that they are going back to just that... its getting some attention and respect... still needs more but its getting there.... its worried so much about that #1 spot, they claim they dont want... they are willing to buy fuji industries, that heavy duty truck company they bought... and a bunch of others... its painfully obvious they arent concerned about their consumers... besides, the more you have whether it 6 million a year, or 9 million a year, the more you have the harder it is to tend to them... GM is downsizing, and its quality is going up, toyota is growing and quality is going down... both selling the same number of cars, and GM seems to be the more stable opponent...
  18. my good ness... you must be from some very very distant farm land... i know my dealership usually had at least 2-5 corvettes at a time... or tried to... but if you noticed the window says "Corvette center" also there are at least where i'm from just straight corvette dealers... in which they have 50 new ones, and 200 used ones... they are quite a place to be when it comes to corvettes
  19. let the hazing from the media begin
  20. hrmm this might suggest, Cerberus might be playing a game with GMAC, growing it to a more valueable value and selling it back to GM...if they hadnt any intentions of involving GM, you'd think they could use chrysler financial to do the deal, a company they own much more wholly
  21. hrmm... at the dealership we'd have 3-4 people sitting on the tailgate all day long... just flip it down and shoot the $h!... those trucks saw a lot of time and weight on them... every once in a while you might notice them kinda bowed in the middle only something us sales people would notice... but nothing was clearly exposed metal like that... nothing torn or damaged...
  22. currently that is probably a good idea, its always a good idea to have invenested in homes, only at which you can clearly afford the morgage you are getting... my parents are extremely leveraged, owe some 3 million on 5 million of assets... they've purchased before and durring the boom... its been good for them, but they still havent cashed in, and have no intentions... only to grow it...
  23. nono... i'm just wondering how many articles are going to suggest their sales are declining and the CEO is going to say, we will still hit our targets
