  1. Q: What do you get when you crash a '91 Skylark into a wall? A: A '96 Skylark

I hate this ! It makes my car look terrible. Bundling up with four layers of clothing just to stay warm sucks...I prefer the use of my knees and elbows. Bring on the spring.
  3. Interesting. A certified used 2005 Cobalt has a better warranty on it than the 2005 Cobalt that I purchased new and still own.
  4. VH fans have been toyed with far too many times since 1996. I really hope that this lasts, and they move forward with a new album once this tour is over. I'm pissed at what happened to Michael Anthony - especallly because he's so cool - but even without him, this band has always had enough potential to take the rock world by storm, and send all of today's kiddie rock bands back to the drawing board. One thing's for sure, you'll be able to cut all the tension at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony with a knife.
  5. I could've sworn I saw your b-day on the bottom of the forum index. Oh well.

Two decades old today. Happy Birthday, sir! NOS, you know what to do. A very happy one to Mikko_O, mot76, TMN, Waytoogood, and SODDOFBALDRICKZ28 as well
  7. Are you saying that the Impala is dead by the end of the year as well?
  8. Two reasons why georgejetson may be onto something: 1) IIRC, the GTO at first got the GMNA-spec LS1 instead of the 300hp Holden version? 2) It looks like the G8 is already getting some HSV parts (hood, wheels). Whatever the V8, I don't think I'll mind. The car still rocks.
  9. I don't think they're that bad: http://djroyboy.www8.50megs.com/mustang/1971_Mustang.htm The overhangs are a bit much, but in the right color scheme this could be a pretty nice car. I put it higher on my personal scale than the 05+ Mustang. I'd love to see you guys follow the "Bodied by Ford, Powered by Chevy" mantra and stick a nice big block in there
  10. Good news. I hope she is OK and in the same condition she was before he was stolen.
  11. Well, there goes my one reason to visit Vegas.
  12. Probably the best cars will be the ones that are popular enough to have parts reproduced for them, but not so popular that they break the bank. I really like the idea of doing up a truck for this project - how about a classic Blazer with the full lift-off roof?
  13. On the Island we have stray dogs/cats, deer, geese, seagulls, raccoons, squirrels, and assorted other critters. Nothing for me to get scared about. One time my neighbor's dogs tried to gang up on and beat up my dog, but I did the "yell real loud and wave your arms" routine and they took off. Ah, the life of a suburbanite.
  14. Beautiful. This is my next car, that settles it.
  15. You know, I did all that work last month upgrading the site and installed a spell checker, just for you. How about using it for crying out loud? The ones I've seen must not have been turbo cars. IIRC, they were all around 185hp. Those I've seen done for $10K and wouldn't have second thoughts about putting a modern powertrain in it and using it as a DD. Regardless, I would save the original powertrain in the garage as long as it isn't seized solid. Obviously I'm not up on classic Oldsmobiles, but I'd definitely do my homework on a car like that before buying one. I fell in love with the early 60s F-85s after seeing a 1963 covnvertible at an auction last year, to the point where I would have tried to win it if the bidding stayed reasonable and I could find an outfit that reproduced sheetmetal for it (it didn't, and I couldn't). I love the tidy dimensions, the low, lean, mini-64 Impala SS side sculpting. Plus, you get all that with a V8 to boot!
  16. I love these. Once I move out of the snow belt, I'd love to pick up one as a daily driver...maybe stuff an Aurora V8 in one for kicks. You can find them completely restored for $10-15K

Most comedians turn me off when they start playing the raunch card. After a while (5 seconds or so), it's just not funny. Though I have caught "Mind of Mencia" a few times and I don't think I've ever laughed that hard at anyone else on Comedy Central. I like how the guy skewers every race equally. I saw Bill Cosby live last year, and I though he was hilarious. There were people much older than me and much younger than me in the audience laughing as well. He's the undisputed king of comedy in my books.
  18. Upgrading memory and hard drives on Dells is usually a snap. Go to www.crucial.com - they have a memory selector that allows you to specify your system and tell you the max amount of memory that they can put in it. As for the hard drive, it's usually a standard 2.5" notebook drive that's screwed into a Dell-specific caddy. Without knowing the specifics of what you want to upgrade to, I'd say it'll cost about $100-200 total.
  19. Trying to nail that down over the next couple of days. A trip to the Spring Carlisle with my dad on the 20th is a near certainty. I'm also hoping to make it to All-GM and the Corvette show in August.
  20. "This is so much better than the "KICK ME" signs everyone usually sticks on me"
  21. Happy birthday, Variance. Congratulations on your job.
  22. The LSx-based engines have a HUGE aftermarket. You don't have to look too far to find a company that makes parts for this engine. GM already has a dealer-installed dual exhaust system available for the Silverado. That alone should close the performance gap somewhat. Wrong. A good majority of truck owners will do some sort of modification to their trucks. Watch the show "Trucks!" on SpikeTV. It's a huge industry. Well, if the Tundra's tranny is as reliable as the Camry's, then it's a fair fight - 4spd vs. 4spd. The 4spds are on their way out to be replaced by the 6spds across the board. I think the only reason why the Silveado has it now is because the whole GMT900 program was pushed forward last year, and the 6spds can't yet be supplied fast enough. I wouldn't be surprised if the 6spd is offered on all GMT900s by 2008.
  23. The fix is already in the owner's manual. You know, the page that says "Always wear your seat belt". Still, a good CYA move by GM. It's nice to know they care about stupid people too.
  24. sir, you are hilarious! Shove-sticks :rotflmao: A low cost car that has all the creature comforts of my bicycle will get no interest from me. Assuming its reliabile, efficient, and crash-worthy, it will be an interesting option for people who view cars as a necessary evil, or those who use them just for commuting in the city or from home to the train station or what-have-you. Either of those groups would be inclined to spend as little on a car as possible.
  25. Thanks for asking, Satty. And 68 - did I mention it's a 427, tri-power 4spd car Anyway, I haven't done too much since the weather got too cold to hold tools comfortably. I've got the rear of the car stripped of all the chrome/lights/trim/etc. and the old, rusted tank is long gone. I've been mostly acquiring parts. So far I have: a date-correct 427/435 block, heads, and complete tri-power setup a transistorized distributor front and rear bumpers AM/FM radio reconditioned console trim plate (it's a one year design and therefore not repro'd by the aftermarket) rear taillight lenses and housings gas tank and associated hardware Probably next month I'm going to start looking for a Gantry crane, so I can attach a chain hoist to it and lift the body up to replace the body mounts and make sure the previous owner did a good job restoring the frame. Then I can send the body out to be media blasted and, if necessary, have the body work done (both my father and I are allergic to fiberglass, and it can be dangerous to work with). I guess my rough goal for this coming year is to have the body ready for primer by the end of summer '07, so I can spend the winter months assembling the engine and getting it running.
