Buick News: 2018 Buick Regal GS Shows Up With 310 Horsepower
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
You are buying luxury when you buy a C300 though, not performance, 241 hp is fine for that buyer, and for around $52k they have a C43 with a 4.5 second 0-60 time, which is a lot of performance bang for the buck. The Regal GS is like the Maxima, it is too much money for what it is. $42,650 gets an Infiniti Q50 Premium AWD with the 3 liter turbo V6 (300 hp, 295 lb-ft). So why pay $42k for a Maxima or Regal? -

But the Regal GS has C300 pricing. I'll agree to Buick being as premium as a CLA or Acura TSX level car. Because those aren't luxury cars either. Even though the CLA comes from a luxury brand, it is more of a premium compact. Likewise with A3, 1-series, etc. -

2018 ATS 2.0T Luxury trim with AWD is $41,690, pretty close to the Regal GS. The ATS has sold 7,209 cars year to date (down 27%). The C-class sold 7,116 in June alone by comparison. So I stand by my statement of them struggling to sell ATS's. And the Regal costs just as much, and is a Buick Regal, not a Cadillac. -
Buick News: 2018 Buick Regal GS Shows Up With 310 Horsepower
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
So first off, Buick is Not a luxury brand. So no point comparing this to an Audi or BMW. Second, the Regal GS is no faster than an ATS 2.0t awd, won't handle better than an ATS, it doesn't have a Cadillac beating interior either and it has less of a badge. So the ATS is a better car at the same money and they can't sell the ATS. How will they sell these? The old Regal didn't sell and they raised the price and think it will work this time? -

So Buick can rebadge a Malibu and it is a Lexus level luxury car, but if Mercedes takes a Navara Chassis and changes out the interior and engine it is failure. Got it. Most people don't really need all wheel drive but I think they should offer it on the Malibu because a lot would buy it. It is an easy option to sell in the snow belt. -
Porsche News: Porsche CEO Says They Could Drop Diesel By 2020

Could drop? They should drop diesel like a sack of dirt. They are a sports car company, who actually is primarily an SUV company now but at any rate, throw some hybrid tech on this SUVs and drop the diesel. -

Nissan-Renault could be the largest car maker in the world this year, not a bad company to have a partnership with. If they ever need a favor from the Carlos Goshn empire they can.- 44 replies

If it had a 400 hp twin turbo V6 for the same price it gets more reasonable. -
Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-Benz X-Class Fancies Up the Truck Class
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
They don't have a pick up truck chassis. They could turn a unibody SUV into a pick up like Honda did with the Ridgeline. I actually think Mercedes shouldn't even build a pickup truck. I think this is a waste of time, when they have a huge car line to manage and they want to build 10 EV's. Any resources spend on the X-class could have gone elsewhere. This might be an easy money grab, they gave Nissan the GLA platform so Infiniti could have a small crossover, this was what they got in return.- 44 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-Benz X-Class Fancies Up the Truck Class
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
This could be a way to test the waters with little cost or investment. They probably want to see how the market reacts to this. If it is positive then Mercedes can do a ground up design from scratch with the GLE/GLS chassis and make a mid-size truck on their own.- 44 replies

Isn't that what the Colorado, Tacomoa and Ranger ride on too? I am sure what Daimler-Renault-Nissan came up with here is as good as those. Once a comparison test happens by a European car mag, I guess we will find out.- 44 replies

Buick News: 2018 Buick Regal GS Shows Up With 310 Horsepower
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
The Camry is lighter, has 3 more on-ft of torque and 9 less hp. And they share the same dimensions. Seems pretty close to be and the Camry XSE V6 is $5k cheaper. They can't sell Cadillac ATS's for $40k, yet they want to sell a Buick Regal for that price? This Regal won't sell just like the last one didn't sell. I think at $33,750 this Regal looks like a decent buy, which is probably why after 6 months they'll give $5,000 off and 0% for 72 months to sell them. -

This think looks like a Kia from the front and a Honda Accord side/rear shape. You will be able to get a Kia Stinger V6 for this kind of money, and that car has like 370 hp, and correct-wheel-drive. Really a V6 Camry has just as much power and as good an interior and Toyota reliability and resale and it costs less. -

This is a 2018 Frontier chassis, This is based on the Nissan Navara or whatever it is called that the 2018 Frontier will be based on. And yes this is is the same as the Escalade/Tahoe, but the Escalade doesn't have a Cadillac engine, at least the Mercedes truck gets a Mercedes engine and transmission. And the Escalade is Cadillac's best money maker maybe Mercedes should go down that road.- 44 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-Benz X-Class Fancies Up the Truck Class
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
They aren't selling it in the USA. So clearly they aren't interested in the pick up market here. My point was IF they were interested, they could do it. What if the next-gen Nissan Frontier is class leading? We don't even know how good or bad it is because it isn't out yet. If Mercedes ever decided to do a pickup for the USA, it would be the best one. Because an American market truck would be an actual luxury vehicle, and have class leading power, hell, they'd probably put a 500 hp AMG V8 in it just because that is how they roll. Keep in mind that Ford and FCA don't make a mid-size truck for America right now either. Where are they at? That is their business. Mercedes business is luxury cars, which they are winning at.- 44 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-Benz X-Class Fancies Up the Truck Class
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
They could compete if they want to. They compete just fine in commercial vans. They could do a commercial pickup if they wanted to, I donttthink they want to. They could build a luxury pickup if they want to, and again, I don't think they want to. They can't do it all though. They have probably the largest luxury line up of any car maker, plus a commercial van business, plus they are bringing out 10 electric cars by 2022, which should give them the biggest EV line in the world.- 44 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-Benz X-Class Fancies Up the Truck Class
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
It would need an interior upgrade to make it in the USA. Because they would have to make a luxury play. They could use 241 hp turbo 4 as a base here, use the new 408 hp inline six as an option, no mid-size truck can touch that kind of power. I just don't think they are interested in the pick up business. This looks kind of half assed to sell in markets like Germany and Eastern Europe and Africa where they need a low price point and don't have much competition.- 44 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-Benz X-Class Fancies Up the Truck Class
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Interior looks lackluster for Mercedes. I know it isn't a luxury truck but they could have done a Metris looking interior and door trim. The diesels probably make good torque, but they should use the Metris inline 4 with 208 hp and 258 lb-ft as a base engine. I am still not sure of the point of this. If they wanted to build a luxury pick up to sell in the USA they could. And I am not sure what the demand is in Europe and Africa for this truck.- 44 replies

Industry News: Loyalty for SUVs and Crossovers Hits A New High
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
The recession that caused GM to file bankruptcy? If the economy down turned like it did in 2008, sales would get hit across the board, gas guzzlers probably at the top of the list. The cars that don't suffer in recession are things like Ferraris and Bentleys because the super wealthy seem to never lose out. The other 99% take the loss. -
Genesis News: Trademark Filings Hint At SUVs and Coupes From Genesis
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Genesis
They could do a coupe, if it is in the $30-45k range. Make it nicer than a Camaro or Mustang, but cheap than the German sport coupes. I hate their naming scheme though, it is so boring, so generic, so copy cat, it sparks no emotion. At least Kia called their car the "Stinger" that sounds aggressive and interesting. GT60 is snooze button all day long. This brand needs at least 3 crossovers to have any chance at survival. -

Industry News: Loyalty for SUVs and Crossovers Hits A New High
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
A lot of these crossovers get mileage like a sedan. A Rav4 gets 23/30 mpg, a CHR gets 27/31 mpg. People are comparing these crossovers to the mid-seize sedan they have not that gets that. So they see it as no sacrifice in fuel economy but more space, more safety, better in snow, etc. Even at $5 a gallon, the big Tahoe type SUVs would get crushed, but the RAV4 and CR-V would see zero slow down, I think they would actually go up in sales with increasing gas prices.
