  1. I would agree on writing it off completely, but I am not seeing anything that gives me much hope.
  2. I can see why it is a cult car across the pond! Make that a plus 2, I agree also! The CLA looks like a cold war era eastern European product next to that Cruze hatch! Given the cost of Smart car repalcemnt parts and the dismal reliability of Smart cars, no....just sadly no....
  3. Even then the details are not as nice as say the 2015 SS or other cars in that bracket.
  4. I can appreciate that....! The question isn't if it is a great value and a great performance car, but if it is up to its competitors. I would maintain the money is better spent elsewhere.
  5. Given the choice between riding around in a Conti and a CLA....i would take the Conti or comparable Cadillac in a New York minute. That 3800 was a gem of a motor!
  6. For 57 K one could get a decent Continental..... Foreign markets often get all of the good stuff on cars...sadly....same with the E36 M3 and the Nissan 240 in the 90's.
  7. Exactly...plus with an APR tune, the GTI will smoke much more expensive performance cars...and run off into the horizon and hide from an SI. And no, the Si is not a full on hot hatch... The ST is a really nice car, but not what the GTI is. You could perhaps find a local mechanic familiar with foreign cars?
  8. I will agree it is a hell of a deal, but I would still choose almost any of its direct competitors before I would pick the Honda.
  9. Unless it is like the Civic Si, where you have a high reving motor with zero torque in the earlier cars and a low revving motor with no excitement in the current car...
  10. That is because all of the tossable cars they are enjoying are in games like need for speed...
  11. Core business is solid but product is still unimpressive relative to the competition and resale is weak...
  12. I think the slow car fast nimble crowd is very small...BRZ and Miata sell in extremely small numbers...I have to agree with Balthazar here. It is a damned shame the SS went away....much better overall package than the cross town competition from Chryco IMHO. and I like the Chryco Muscle cars.
  13. People are catching up to the idea that Honda is also resting on their laurels. perhaps the only Asian brand that isn't is Subaru, with Mazda a distant second. Mazda is very small and has a much smaller R and D budget... And even then Subaru has a VERY limited product lineup compared to other brands. No Luxury lineup...no trucks...no pure high powered sports cars like the Corvette or Shelby Mustang...No large heavy duty SUV's...no really small sub compacts...no leading hybrid tech...no pure electrics...and the list goes on. It is much easier to keep a very small product lineup up to date than a very broad one like GM and Ford have....or even VW, with Porsche, Bugatti, Bentley, Skoda, VW, Seat, ....
  14. Agreed, Honda is much more "American" than M-B... I do like my local Cadillac dealers more than my local M-B dealers.
  15. Again, competition is a good thing. I don't really think in terms of "better than" because Buick and Lincoln bring something entirely different to the table. Was a fan of Buick before, all of these posts about Lincoln are waking me up to some of the cool things Lincoln does. But at the end of the day, two very different automobiles.
  16. Hopeful on the plants, yes... Agree on the Ford Dashboard thing-I am looking at small sport compacts right now and may well end up with a GTI. The ST Focus has a fantastic dashboard though, I love how modern and visually stimulating it is..Ford got that part of their design very right!
  17. I would up vote this post by about ten thousand if I could....could not agree more....
  18. As the former owner of two Miatas and the Japanese car fan on the board all i can say is....you are absolutely right. I would take a Cruze over a 3....especially the hatch,,,,
  19. As a guy shopping cars in this category, it really is not...
  20. BMW currently couldn't find their ass with both hands if their ass was on fire. And since MINI is owned by BMW, you are hearing this from a current BMW product owner... But you never see anything good in them or say anything nice about them. there are American, European and Asian cars I love, American, European, and Asian cars I hate...my criteria is not always rational, but I am not automatically throwing the cars built on one continent under the bus just because they are built on above mentioned continent. The CLA feels incredibly cheap and under built...it's far too close to the Cruze for comfort.
  21. True but a relatively obscure car.
  22. Not just cars but diesel locomotives and refrigerators also... Going back to my thought on car clubs...none of my import loving friends trash talks domestic cars. Why does SMK? It almost seems like he has some sort of self hatred for himself as an American.
  23. I belong to car clubs where few if any members own domestic cars. I am again baffled by the need of some people to trash talk domestic car makers. And once again GM has moved forward while BMW has lost that which makes it unique. ATS now has much better chassis tuning than most BMW product. Let's also remember that GM had a much broader product range than any of it's competition for decades.
