  1. Fast and cool, I'll check it out in Hot Rod. It takes real balls to drive a doorslammer of any kind that fast. Amazing watching any shorter wheelbase car that's any faster than about 8 seconds in the 1/4 IMHO. Those cars are a handful to drive. A few years ago we had a French foreign exchange student from Forbach,France. He wanted to know what was so special about driving a dragster or drag racing, he said that it must be easy. It's anything but easy. Moran is amazing. Chris
  2. At lunch I often eat at an old fashioned diner called Carl's Town House, which was part of the 1939 world fair before it was moved to Ohio. It has been a resteraunt in Chillicothe ever since. Was sitting there at Lunch and a black Camaro SS with white stripes pulled up and parked. And then a Cadillac Fleetwood (I think like Roger/GMCTG74's car) in white with a black top pulled up right next to it. Kind of neat looking out at those two cars, sitting in the diner... And then once I was done with lunch I ran my first service call...saw a beautiful red and black Jag E type (early type) and a nice 68 Mustang ragtop, also red and black. Chris
  3. Not worried about flipping it, but the upper weight can be a problem when trying to get a really good fast time. I don't even like how my buddy's Focus SVT is when you push it. But yeah, I think it is a little top heavy for competition. Would be a fun car to race though. And you would have plenty of room in the Back to haul a set of Hoosier A6's to the autocross... Seriously, it is cool to see one of them road raced. I've seen stranger things on track. Volvo's of all things used to be the fast cars in SCCA Improved Touring "B" Chris
  4. CTS perhaps? But yeah, GM's future will be in cars like the Malibu and LaCrosse. Which is why I've given up hope of them ever perhaps building a small car I want to buy. Not all the way, I want to see if they come out with something cool through the Buick division in a few years. But for performance guys it's gonna be pretty much Camaro or bust. Isn't the Cobalt SS/TC (and the HHR/SS) going to go away? Chris
  5. My wife drives a car (her choice in car) that is the opposite of your Cadillac, Roger-one of those boxy first gen Scion xB's. It took me all day on a Saturday to clean the car thouroughly inside and out and clay bar it. I think the clay bar kit was $18 at Autozone or something. But the clay bar worked great. Tree sap from my parents driveway that stained the car when it had 10,000 miles on it (103,000 miles and 4 years ago) came right out with the clay bar. With the Ohio winters, hauling around 5 kids, and everything else it's been though it was starting to look so bad that I was going to repaint it. It now looks great. Your Cadillac is a much better starting point paint wise than my wife's car was, so clay and a good couple coats of wax and she should look like a million bucks. With a couple of other detailing projects I've done on larger cars, sometimes I will do a panel at a time, sometimes over a few days. You can then wash the car, vacuum it, and give it one good final coat of wax. Not orthodox but I'm lazy so that's how I sometimes do it. Once you get done waxing the Caddy you'll know why I want a MINI so badly! Chris
  6. Congrats, Dodgefan! Now you can buy that new Challenger SRT8. Chris
  7. Drivetrain mule perhaps? Chris
  8. GM put a lot of thought into this and it shows. Again, congrats. Now you just need a B5 blue Challenger R/T as a garage mate and your all set. Chris
  9. That weight up high is exactly why I probably won't buy one. I would be afraid to push it in an autocross. Neat Vid. though... Chris
  10. Someone has to make the gold line tires. I saw a set today on a 65 Riviera that were just about brand new. Again, nice purchase. And if you get cold feet, remember my garage in Ohio is large and lonely... Seriously...nice car, can't wait until you can get it home. Chris
  11. $ for $ I feel thqt they are very good. The 5 is maligned but it actually is a pretty good motor. Wife and I test drove a Rabbit with the 5 before we bought our last Miata, I was VERY impressed with the 5. If I get a Vee-Dub though it will be TDI or GTI. And it will be stick, none of this damn DSG or trtiptronic nonsense. Chris
  12. As a fanboi of both GM and VW (who would think of that combo) all I can say is congrats and nice choice! Chris
  13. Believe it or not a 40,000 mile Cadillac STS...Sadly it was in the CFC line at the dealer next to the tire store I went to when I got a flat. Chris
  14. I knew 68 was a low production year, but didn't know it was that low! Wonder how many are left? Chris
  15. Used the stuff on my wife's car, worked great... Chris
  16. Congrats, you know own two of my fav. cars! Nice Choice! Did you clunk the Buick?
  17. I like that car...but the golf is not priced very far behind the Jetta for the TDI. Chris
  18. Interesting that they mention the Yellow and Orange as special order carryovers from 69, I have heard about these cars being ordered that way. Used to know someone who had a special order Hugger Orange Monte Carlo, nice looking car. Chris
  19. Okay, it's been about 8 or 10 years since I saw the L89 car, think it was 68 might have been 69. Didn't they have aluminium heads for the 396 in 67 though...? Or am I wrong? I was thinking 68 was low on Convertible production, but I might be wrong on that was well. Didn't GM have a big strike in 68 or 69 that cut #'s way down? I'm thinking that was 68, but my history is getting fuzzy. Chris
  20. I like the car but fear for what will happen to all performance cars when the price of fuel goes up. But it is wayy cool. Personaly though, I would prefer a G8 on styling alone. But I'm not going to drop 35K on a car that gets 17 MPG, so I am not part of their target market. Chris
  21. I always thought the 68 Stripe treatment was one of the best things GM did in the 60's. There was a black 68 with white stripes like that which used to run around Columbus. LOVED that car. Classy and purposeful and elegant. Saw a fully nut and bolt restored 68 SS-396 that was red on red with no vynal top and those stripes. SWEET! Wasn't 68 a very low production year for SS Chevelle convertibles? I saw a real legit 68 Convertible with the L89 aluminium heads once for sale. It was red also. Trying to remember the name of the dealership that had it for sale. Supposedly no L89 convertibles were built in 68 but they had the protecto plate and everything else for this car. Wonder what ever happened to it? Chris
  22. So why don't you get a 69, or 70, or 71-72 El-Camino? Even if it wasn't a real SS, life is short and painful. Get the car you really want, I think perhaps? Chris Oh, and BP, thanks for the movie car link.
  23. You can kill me for sayhing this...but what would be really cool...is a 71 Sprint that was tubbed and running a very healthy big block. It would also be a cool phantom to build and LS6 Wagon. Chris
