Silver looks great on all of them...but on a 66 GTO...WOW! Neighbor growing up had a 'real" 69 Z-28 with the cross ram manifold and the rear disc brakes and a few of the other "rare" Z-28 goodies. It was Cortez silver, no vynal top, and a blue interior. A little different, but man what a car. Bet they didn't build many 69 Z's in that combo. The other car that wears silver well is the 78-El Camino. Saw a really nice one in that salvage yard. Looked clean, which was odd as the plant growth around it suggested it ahd been sitting there for awhile. Chris

I can see both sides of this. Cadillac builds great cars but they can't rest on the CTS and the Escalade. Would LOVE to see the small Caddy we have talked about...RWD...nimble...handles well. THAT car would be a dream. And even as good as the BMW 1 series is, you know the caddy would be better. Let's hope they can get a car like that to market. Chris

Also, ran a service call for work in the middle of BFE. Found not one but two yards with old cars in them. First Yard...Mostly falcolns, VW beetles, 4 door trash sedans, etc... But they did have- An intact 47ish Plymouth that looked like it could drive out of there. A seemingly "real" B5 blue 70 Roadrunner. A 60 Cadillac convertible, white with a red interior. You wonder how cars like the Road Runner and the Caddy ever wind up in junkyards. Chris

Actually for some reason Mustang convertibles of the Fox body vintage seem to be loosing out a little bit in the Mustang hobby. There is a salvage yard in georgia called Stangparts or something like that. I've come close to buying a couple of rebuildable cars from them. They no longer sell convertibles whole as there is little demand for them. At least that's what I was told. Still sad to see this crushed, along with the Roadmaster, the Aurora, the Cutty's, the Cherokees, etc. Chris

Interestingly, I think Ford may be eating into GM's sales. My local nearby GM store is also a Ford store (no import sales). Company I used to work for did the electrical work when it was built, and I have been stopping in once in awhile during the 13 years since we built it. It usually runs 2 to 1 GM to Ford, but right now Ford has GM covered two to one. YMMV. Chris

...and actually...being serious...why don't you just plan on keeping this thing "forever" and getting a stockpile of parts. With this whole CFC thing, you could look for an advert on craiglist or wherever that went something like this. "Jeep Grand Cherokee 2000 model year. Ran fine until motor locked up. Will not sell whole. Parts available cheap, call with your neds." You might be able to get almost a whole "noteher" vehicle and store it in the barn in Ohio. As nice as your Mustang is, and as nice as the Jeep looks from what I can see, the Jeep might become almost immortal. Besides, you'll need something for the snow when you come to your senses and move back to the midwest. Chris

You could buy a ratty seat and have it covered. I've had seats covered for cars I've restored and if yhou find the right person they can do good work at a reasonable price. I'd hook you up with some people but they are in Ohio. Chris

FWIW I think things are getting more stable. It will take awhile for things to get back to "good" What we need now is for Obama, (IMHO the best president in my lifetime) to get to work on long term stuff like energy independence and the environment. Hopefully things are good enough in 2012 for Obama to be re-elected. Thanks for posting the link... Just my two cents. Chris

Please.... Saw a Liberty Blue Jeep like yours (Moltars) on a local cash for clunker line. Tried to find out what salvage yard was buying the cars, all I got is "we are crushing them all whole." Still looking for a seat and track in my salvage yard travells... Chris

regfootball... Just get an Astra when you can. You will love this car. Not sure why it never got any love in the US. And then Autocross it...at least once. Drive it at the limit and you'll know just how good that damned chasis is. Chris

That Patriot Blue is jsut such a kick ass color! I thought your Jeep was like a gold or champaigne or some really mellow color. Like it MUCH better knowing it's blue. Nice looking ride, Moltar. Chris

Actually I think the original cherokee is one of the cooler veicles of the 20th century. They just stopped building them last year in China IIRC. The Grand Cherokee is a damned good vehicle. Too bad Chryco never built it with a Cummins....or did they? IIRC for about a year or so they came diesel. These things will go ANYwhere...stock or near stock Jeeps will do the Rubicon,I'd love to see someone elses vehicles do the same stuff off road. Anyhow...damn near indestructable vehicles. Until you drain the crankcase and fill it with sodium silica and water. Chris

Ford Hyundai and VW are the ones to watch IMHO. Ford is our leading domestic right now Hyundai from the far east VW from europe. I think once fuel prices go up again, the VW diesel thing will bring them a lot of sales. Ford will do well with its current lineup, better with the new Focus and Fiesta. Hyundai with the assurance program and warranty will do very well. Chris

I just ran an errand with my wife and I drove through the lot at Toyota West. About 65 cars, mostly domestic. Including a silver Aurora, a Bonneville SSEI (in that really nice dark green on tan combo GM had for these cars) and a couple really nice trucks. What does Toyota offer that even comes close to an Aurora? Black Monte 2 door at the Honda dealer next door. Honda dealer has 40+ ca, all but 2 are domestic. Also decent black Lincoln Mark 8 two door. VW dealer across the street has a similar number of cars, as does the Kia dealer. Actually the Kia dealer is prob. closer to 30. But the Kia dealer does have a really nice second gen S-10 Blazer two door, blue clean 4x4. Ohhh, and LOTS more Jeeps. I'm actually really proud that so many Ohio built vehicles have served their owners that well and that long. Lots of these jeeps are high mile utnits and seem to be doing fine. Also amazed that so many Jeep owners are trading foreign. Chris
