  1. Exactly, avant1963! I love that Dodge concept. And surprise, it's a regular cab. I think it'd be a cool new segment. If we weren't so scared of our heritage, it could be called Chevrolet Apache. How is that name even remotely offensive?
  2. I briefly met Chevyguy2000 at Carlisle last year, and of course, our boy Sixty8. Missed out on meeting B&BL and Camino because of a scheduling conflict. I have a long list of folks I'd like to meet from here.
  3. Interesting how the "new face of Subaru" looks so much like "the old face of SAAB"... like it was GM's doing during the shortlived linkup. I am sitting here with a car in my head. A G6 GTP coupe, painted in a garish gold metalflake, with white tuck-n-roll interior, shaved headrests, and lots of chrome. Airbag suspension with 20" spinners. So-Cal, baby.
  4. What I am proposing is a pickup smaller than a Colorado, something that is functional, yet fun and appealing. Something economical and inexpensive to buy and maintain. To be relevant, it has to be different from its larger brother, otherwise there's no point. Perhaps the Colorado needs to be upgraded a bit to allow room for the smaller truck. I retract my statement about "no extended cab", there should be an extended cab available, but without the pretense of back seats. Just open it up for lockable storage and more front seat travel. What I have in my mind as a model is the basic, shortbed, Iron Duke powered S-10 that proliferated in the 80's and early 90's. They were everywhere, and served a noble purpose. And with that engine they ran forever... the head gasket blowing 2.2L that came later just didn't have the same guts. The 2.2L and 2.4L Ecotecs would do fine for what I'm looking for. They already have a RWD version in the Kappa cars. Of course, a bit of design flair to go along with your economy would help. I think there is a market for a more basic, yet fun, and small truck here in the states, for young people and those desiring a functional second vehicle.
  5. It certainly does lend a sense of optimism. The Enclave is a great looking vehicle.
  6. Oh hush, Viper. Clean is where it's at.

    get to know me!

Agreed, TR, that dude in the top pic is very cute.
  8. "I know what they got in Mexico for boys like you, bobo!" :AH-HA_wink:
  9. "But thanks anyway!" said Viper. Son, don't forget your manners.
  10. GM interior design has been similar for decades, across the divisions. If you look at a '72 Cadillac DeVille dash, it looks pretty similar to a '72 Impala dash, and so on. I like this new GM phase.
  11. Think of it... 2800 4 cylinder engine only, with dimensions like a first-gen S-10. RWD /4WD chassis, of course, no pansy FWD chassis. No crew cab, no extended cab, just a regular cab with some space behind the seat to hide your stuff. Prices would start dirt cheap, so that everyone who has an occasional need for a truck could afford one as a second vehicle. Trucks have good profit potential. This would be great.

    This is me...

Um, doy, not if you're planning on living to 108!
  13. A coworker of mine has been talking for some time about trading his loaded Alero on a Cobalt SS/SC. He'd build up, then deflate... so I wasn't sure if he'd ever do it. Well, he did it, and I am officially jealous. He's about 54, compact, with s&p hair, and single (he's straight.) He says he's not quite ready to say he's having a midlife crisis... I say to hell with that... enjoy yourself! It's silver/black with sunroof.
  14. Wow! Maybe the smoke and mirrors has blinded and choked me, but a G6 GTP coupe equipped the way I want (very lightly optioned, with 6 speed manual and ultrabright wheels only), is now only $24,040! Before the price reductions, it was over $26k. Still, if the invoice hasn't changed, my price with the employee discount would be the same as before... I really need to check with our Pontiac store in Harrisburg...
  15. Pontiac style. Something the current car is lacking.

    Pictures!

Ew, glory holes are nasty. I saw one once, in a public restroom at the Outer Banks, NC.
  17. I would say it's a $25k car, based on the competition. A sub-G6 offering should be available... a Kappa 4 seater, in the $20k range.
  18. Looking at the poll results so far, Viper, I'd say there are a lot of "Ocnblu types" here. What? I like the "dished" decklid much more than a cheesy, tacked on spoiler. The lid itself looks as though it functions perfectly well to hold down the tail... like a Corvette... no need for chintzy add-ons. It does have an intriguing mix of flow and sharpness, as shown in a view from 3/4 front... nice sharp hip lines on the quarters balance well with the rounder lower contours. The editors at Road & Track agree... this car is eye catching.
  19. The new Road & Track magazine has a road test on the G6 GTP 6MT coupe, and they give it an overall positive review... they even comment on the quiet cabin... noting a lack of wind noise. C&D's test car obviously had a door seal/weatherstrip problem not indicative of the car's design. Road & Track also commented on the shift linkage, but said the clutch has a nicer feel than the Accord. R&T's GTP went down the 1/4 mile at 15 seconds flat. They praised it for that... and they were clearly enamoured with the styling. The test car was bright blue with black leather.
  20. I am completely and utterly stunned at this news. Even though Chief and I ended our friendship a while back (for reasons unclear to me,) I am certainly thinking of him now. Condolences to Jay. I had no idea he was not well, he never let on.
  21. The rumor mill is churning about Toyota bringing out a basic, small, fun pickup truck smaller than the crappy, frogeye Tacoma. GM would be wise to study the possibility as well... like now.

See now, I would have waited a second or two longer. Once it was out and in full view, then the "out of order" sign would have been unfurled. With a wink. :AH-HA_wink:
