  1. What's not to love except for the sleepy styling and maybe the Aussie manufacture (just because I'd like to see it built in NA, no knock on Holden's abilities)?
  2. Gorgeous car. Call me.
  3. Um, guys... the Cutlass is not Viper's, it's his parents'. He just drives it. He can't sell someone else's car. Plus, it would be a fun car to have for weekend drives to local shows and cruises. I agree with Viper on fixing the Milennia and selling it, and putting that money, plus hopefully a loan, toward something reliable with lower mileage he can drive every day. He will have to work all the hours he can and please his bosses to make it work, but I'm sure he knows that.
  4. Our Thanksgiving table this year included a Trailblazer, a Silverado, an Impala and a Sierra. So there was a lot of gas flowing after we ate.
  5. I thought that ad was funny. Man, the Political Correctness Police would have a field day with that one these days. Elliooooot!

Good Lord, those were your gums? Because little ocn feels like a log that's been attacked by a beaver.
  9. It's hilarious seeing one of those air spring Lincolns bouncing down the road on no springs, passengers banging their heads on the ceiling...

CMG, please take your teeth out next time we get together. Thanks.
  11. Hey, does anyone know what the standard 17" wheels look like on the 3-door? Can anyone confirm they are the same wheels in the ASTRA gallery at Saturn.com pic of the gray XR 5-door? Because I like those. I wouldn't want the 18" rims if all you can get are summer tires, they'd wear out within a year. A blue 3-door with no options except the uplevel stereo prices out at $19,090. I guess I gotta wait two more months before I can see this car at the local "retailer". I have a feeling there won't be any cars ordered for stock by the dealerships equipped the way I describe above... and it will probably be difficult to factory order one. We'll see. I just put myself on the mailing list for information.
  12. In my opinion, no, not this time. But read his thread about his grandmother's horrible death, and maybe you'll know where he's at right now. Also, he said in his post that he's not perfect either. I don't think he's ever claimed to be. A lot of the older guys here can relate to where you're at in your life now, Viper, because they've been there. And that leads to caring for you and your trials, hoping for the best. We're all trying to help you in our own way. You've tried a car that was reasonably affordable but had a bad engine. You've tried a car with expensive replacement parts that was running on borrowed time due to high mileage (not a knock on Mazda, but it is a machine, they all break sometime), and you've tried a much older car that is cheap to maintain, but needs a lot of little things to make it reliable as a daily driver. I agree it is time to try something different, if you can manage it.
  13. I'd recommend a Civic, an early-90's, non-riced one (riced ones I'd be worried about because you know they've been run hard and possibly modified stupidly, compromising the car's innate reliability). Stace, or someone else with automotive financing experience may be able to answer your question. Or you could call your or your parents' bank to see if you could qualify. I'd do that before I go with financing from a used car dealership. They will probably ask you how long you've been working and what your wages are. It would probably be best to secure a loan first and figure out the payments before you select a car. Does that make sense? That way you'd know if you could swing it beforehand.
  14. "And in other news, investigators are working hard trying to figure out how an oil sludge spill rivaling the Exxon Valdez disaster has struck a Central Minnesota Toyota dealership. Environmentalists were seen carefully, lovingly hand washing the black goo from Prius flanks. Back to you, Rebecca."
  15. You two have been at each other's throats for months now. I wish it would stop. Yes, I realize I've had my differences with a few members in the past, but every member has a right to be here if they are contributing something to the site. Both of you have been here forever. Rodney King.
  16. See, this is an idear who's time has come...back. I've been wanting a return to this way of automotive thinking for a long time. Meaningful trim level differences for a range of pricing... coupe, sedan, wagon, convertible and maybe even sedan pickup bodystyles on the same platform... basic 4 cylinder, six cylinder, eight cylinder, hybrid, and diesel engine choices... manual and automatic transmissions... rear and AWD... I fail to see how this formula could not work in this day and age. It's the A-body creed reincarnated for the 21st century.
  17. Oh Sylvester, I am so sorry. I would be so full of the reddest, blackest anger at what happened. But it wouldn't help me or her memory to feel that way. Still, I'd burn. I hope time helps you recover.
  18. Here's a disco song for you: Fly, Brian, Fly... up up to the SKYYY!!! That was pitiful, yes, but I do wish you a Happy Birthday. Have fun! Thanks for all your work here.
  19. Don't do that too much, or you'll get a scarlet johnson. Ouch. I like performance and driving feel, but I am less mechanically inclined than some enthusiasts. I have, at some point, changed oil (used to do it all the time), changed serpentine belts, rebuilt a couple of one-barrel carburetors for my Corvair, and I've done a couple of tune-ups on my own vehicles. Nothing internal to an engine, transmission or differential. I've seen those things being done lots of times. Of course I've torn down vehicles to write collision estimates at work. I like to keep up, by reading everything I can, on the latest stuff coming. I try to keep current. I hope I have pretty good taste. I am very interested in design, and tend to gravitate toward car companies that build on a design heritage, rather than throwing everything out with each successive generation of a given model. My lifelong love, or enthusiastic interest, has been for GM. I try not to be blindly biased against other manufacturers... except Toyota. I am proud to be blindly biased against them because of their products and their corporate attitude.
  20. You put a "snow" tire on the front of a RWD car? Uh... wth...
  21. Imagine an Avalanche trying to drive into a garage built for a Pilot... :AH-HA_wink:
  22. OMG, if Camino doesn't kiss you like a Frenchman after seeing this, I will be shocked.
  23. A remarkably sexy machine.
