They look like a modern interpretation of Halibrands. They also look like something Intro would make ( I plan to use Intros on Project Camino). And.. this car is incredibly sweet!

A sad day for you Borger, I know. I remember when the stroke happened, and we spoke on the phone at length about this. The loss of your father is striking in a way that other losses simply are not. I send my condolences to you and yours in a difficult time. As one who does understand just how this feels, I remind you that you have my number. Use it if you feel the need - I'll be here.

I don't have an answer for you FOG, I didn't close it and I don't know why it was closed. I would have preferred that you had PM'd me about it though - much as you would have preferred to have a reason given for closing your thread. I think you know that I would have found out what happened. To be honest, I found the experiment interesting. After reading it soon after it was posted, I didn't check in on it again. The next time I looked, it was closed. -
For the last few days I have spent an insane number of hours trying to get the alignment of all the panels right. It's not perfect yet, but I decided that I needed a break from that frustrating task. So, I finished the detailing of the front bumper parts ( rub strips, bumperettes, turn signal lamps, and license plate holder) and installed them on the re-chromed bumper I found on Ebay a while back. I had to see what it looked like on the car, so I installed it temporarily. Pics: The front plate is as old as the car (or close to it). I'm not sure, but I think that I had it before I even had a car. When I cleaned it up tonight, I saw that the price sticker was still on it - I paid $2.99 for it way back when. I know that I had it on my first El Camino for a short time about 1980.

True. I want the Camino to stay around for a while after I restore it, but it will eventually be sold so I can move on to another project. Makes it hard to judge, I know. I have a ton of money in Mothertruck, and I might do better financially by selling-off everything but the engine. But I hate to not finish it. Tough call for me.

I hate socialism, but it isn't equal to fascism as a philosophy. We have already been too close to fascism in the past at times with both major parties veering too close to that manner of thinking. One thing I have no fear of under an Obama administration is the risk of fascist leanings.

Considering the economic realities of the day, What would you guys think of this plan: 1) My wagon is nearly complete mechanically, and I had intended to do The Mothertruck ('88 crew cab 4x4) next. 2) The Mothertruck has a brand-new 4-bolt main GM engine with only 2 miles on it currently installed and needs mostly paint and bodywork to finish it. 3) I have been planning to use a new Ramjet 350 crate engine in my Camino, but that would cost me as much or more than finishing the entire truck would - in addition to the rest of the restoration the Camino will be getting. So, I am thinking that maybe I should just use the EFI 350 from the truck in the Camino and sell the truck as is as a project (I have loads of new GM parts for it including factory bedsides). Using the truck engine would require a custom wiring harness and computer in the Camino, but could save me thousands overall. I haven't fleshed this out completely, but there are major pluses to the idea that will save both time and money. It won't make the kind of power that a Ramjet would, but that could be a relatively easy upgrade later on if I choose to go that route. And, It would allow me to start the work on the Camino immediately while making room in the barn at the same time. I hate to not finish the truck, but times are tough. Thoughts?

I would advocate a very similar approach to this. One major addition would be to maximize the usage of each architecture through the use of multiple bodystyles rather than multiple badge jobs. If done this way, three advantages are inherent: 1) the cost of the architecture is spread over the same number (or more) models making it cost-efficient. 2) Brand identity is enhanced and focused either by a single brand having the entire"family' of cars from a given architecture, or by having only the bodystyle variant most appropriate for the brand in question. 3) Badge-engineered cars within any given market disappear lessening competition between GM's brands while enhancing the reputation of each brand in the press, and ultimately in public perception of the brands. Why they haven't been doing this for years perplexes me.

I don't think Obama (whatever else I might think of him) is a stupid man, so I highly doubt that he will mess with 401Ks in the way those extremists advocate.

My take: Quit torturing yourself by looking at FWD Montes! You've been there, and done that - with negative results. The Camino is way overpriced. The leaky Caprice makes more sense than the rest of the listed cars, but it might make more sense to get a newer car that is roadtrip worthy. For a car that meets all of your criteria, there aren't too many options out there. My vote would be for a low-mileage 2002 F-body (best bang for the buck), or a GTO (a car that will make you love it). Either choice will net you a very nice car for a very nice price. Failing these, you could look at Mustangs or BMWs. Ther really isn't much else that fits the bill.

Ever park next to or have some park next to you with the same car?

Well, I've owned at least two of quite a few cars - does that count? With some of my more special cars (Hawk etc.), I almost had to park next to the rare twin if I saw one. In High School, another kid had the exact same year make and model as I did - in the same exterior color! He also worked where I did for a time. I sort-of "stalked" this car, and finally bought it to steal some parts I needed before re-selling it. While I had it, my firends and I referred to it as "The Clone" -
I had a '67 Delmont 88.

I like alchohol - but I rarely drink anymore. Not some decision I made or anything like that, it just faded out of my life for the most part. I guess that for me, it is an issue of quality over quantity and frequency. I rarely buy beer or other alchohol, but when I do, I like to have the good stuff. +1 on the Yellowtail and the Yuengling, and The Kahlua. There is an orange cognac I really like called Royal Montaigne, hard to find but not too expensive. For beer, I usually prefer Canadian or microbrew. Off the list permanently is Jack Daniels - we all have our alchoholic nemesis, and that's mine. I don't care for sweet wines, Southern Comfort, domestic mass-market beers, or most syrupy liquers.
