  9. GM can outpower the Tundra at will with a trip to its parts bin. Toyota, however, has shot its load as far as powerplants go. A Silverado can be whatever you order it to be, the Tundra is a one-trick pony. That ignores the fact of Tundra's ugly exterior and bargain basement interior. Toyota is really trying to play the game this time around, but I doubt Tundra will put a dent in Silverado sales. Chevy knows how to build a truck. Can't wait to see the battle of the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks - the ones that do the real work.
  10. If you really believe that, then you are a fool. What topping would you like on your words when you are proven wrong?
  11. We don't like being toyed with,Mr. Fly! Come clean now man, did a toaster hit the Olds or not?
  12. Time for a new twist in this very old thread. Guess what would be on my list.
  13. I always thought these were cool in a "wow-that's neat to look at, but I don't want to own one" kinda way. I like my 50's cars in small doses, only a few really appeal to me. The trim taut lines of 60's and early 70's cars appeal to me much more. My Dad, on the other hand, loved lots of 50's cars... until you get to '59. He thought ALL '59s were hideous! I didn't see it, at least not the way he did. I guess it was the year that marked a departure from the roundness and tallish look of the 50's until then. I think I see 1959 as the begining of the low, long, lean style I have always liked. And, let's not forget, the El Camino debuted in '59 with the wildest quarter panels I have ever seen on anything. And some interesting tail lights too!

    Saab Story

    100% agree
  15. Expanding the brand isn't a bad idea, but the execution/direction has had mixed results to say the least. It almost seems like DCX has given Jeep a terrible case of multiple personality disorder.
  16. :rotflmao: I knew there was a reason I didn't like that guy!
  17. Not true. I've been known to really like a DCX product from time to time, just not this ill-conceived mess of a wanna-be Jeep. I don't think DCX understands Jeep terribly well, they've really blown it lately trying to expand the brand.

    Saab Story

Interesting article, I think all of us here have largely ignored Saab and I'm feeling a bit guilty now. I will say this to anyone that thinks GM should sell-off the Saab brand: I think it would be a mistake. Reason #1: Saab has a loyal following in Europe. We shouldn't be judging Saabs value by its US sales alone. Reason #2: Saab gives GM an essential manufacturing capability which it needs for the European market. Most critical is the ability to build Cadillacs in theater so to speak, as much of GM's european hopes ride with that brand. So, Saab has value beyond the obvious. But as Variance has pointed out, they need product - badly.
  19. I got a call from the collector who bought my Hawk this morning. Great conversation. He thanked me for being truthful about the car and including everything with it. Then he told me the good news: He has decided that it's a keeper and was preparing it to go into it's own climate-controlled bubble. The best part is that he has given me the right of first refusal should he ever decide to sell it. I feel much better about it all now.
  20. You can't be serious!
  21. Lots of good advice in the posts above. The condition of the car doesn't scare me as much as the difficulty you would have in finding all the parts you'd need. Not only is the car a bit of an addball because it is an Olds, but it is also a wagon. Wagon-specific parts are hard to come by - even on a popular Chevy model, on this car the search could literally take years. Still, it would make a neat car when done.
  22. Nice! Now get that camera working, we need more pics.
  23. Un-freakin-believeable You need to move, my friend.
  24. Goodbye to a bad idea. This thing was a terribly proportioned, goofy-looking, over-priced error, looking more like a downmarket Land Rover than a Jeep product. Next up: Compass Jeep needs to be Jeep.
  25. I've always found option pricing to be either way high or way low vs. aftermarket. Some kind of OEM voodoo going on there.
