  2. GM V8s have been continually evolving throughout their entire history, and mostly for the better. Since the early EFI engines of the late 80's - early 90's the pace of improvement has been rapidly increasing in all aspects of engine quality and performance. The engines keep getting lighter, more fuel efficient and more powerful, while meeting or exceeding ever tougher emission standards. Truly amazing ,actually. In 2002 not only was the LS1 (in the F-bodies) making serious power and rated at an amazing 28mpg highway, but it also was a 50-state low-emission vehicle according to the EPA. The LSx engines have just gotten better since then, so I'd say GM's V8s have a bright future.
  3. And some of us can't stand the sewing machine buzz of high-winders. I'll take low-end torque any day, you can have the buzzmobiles.
  4. I like 'em all, but you can file them under "not gonna happen". The Cougar would have the best chance and that's unlikely. Too bad.
  5. For me a 911 is the only Porsche, the others don't count. So this is a hands-down win for the Vette. The Cayman improves greatly on the ungainly looks of the Boxster, but it is still a case of whipped cream on $hit.
  6. Wow Satty, I'm glad to hear you're ok. Sorry about your car ( Toyota or not), losing a car is a very unpleasant event.
  7. Not gonna happen. As long as the internal combustion engine is in production, so will V8s be. That's not to say that the ICE will be around forever but as long as it is the V8 will be available. Today's V8s have closed the MPG gap to the point that a V6 often has little or no real mileage advantage over a V8 in the same car. One other reason is that the V8 is a necessity for SUV and light truck applications and therefore is practical for the manufacturers as a passenger car powerplant. V8s are a volume powerplant and will continue to be so. What might kill the V8 in cars would be the misguided safety-nazis that believe that a low horsepower car is safer than a high horsepower car. As wrong and foolish as that notion is, the perception is there to be exploited by over-zealous media, insurance companies, and reactionary politicians.
  8. I almost bought an '88 or '89(forget exact year) 911 a few years back. It was my boss' and just sat around all the time. It became part of my job to "exercise" it every now and then. It only had 13k original miles and I could have had it pretty cheap - almost went for it.
  9. Holden Monaro CV8R serieslll
  10. Yup, those are the ones. The CV8R was the Monaro equivalent to my car (limited edition Pulse Red) and is also Pulse Red. I have toyed with the idea of adding all of the CV8R goodies to my car as it seems like a natural theme. Trouble is that the VZ 18 wheels have really caught my fancy. BTW: all of the Underground Chevelle SSs (Including my sig car) wear modified CV8R wheels.
  11. Fred Beans is in my neck of the woods (30 minute drive), but I'm afraid to go as I'm likely to come back broke with a bunch of big boxes poking out of the GTO's windows. :AH-HA_wink: I want the CV8R tails for my car.
  12. I noticed that you've been spending some time over at LS1GTO.com, Northie. :AH-HA_wink: Get's the mod bug moving doesn't it? I've built mine in my head so many times now it's not funny. My recipe would remain the same as I first laid it out about a year or so ago with all mods being exclusively from GM,Pontiac,Holden, or HSV. I'd start with upgrading the LS1 to LS6 specs,Wheels and tires, Z06 clutch, and HSV shifter and brakes. That alone would top the 5k limit. I'd worry about other things later.

    BMW

Too soon to tell for sure, but I think I'll still prefer the E-46 look.
  14. Great read,OC. Thanks for sharing it. It sounds as though the F1 paddle shift has improved from the F355 version, although still clunky at all but full-on driving. I was lucky enough to spend some time driving an F355 spider with F1 and, like you, would have chosen a "3 pedal" version instead. That said, there is something very special about driving a Ferrari, any Ferrari.

    WOW

I like it and would want to see this next to it in the showroom.
  16. New Legacy? Yawn.
  17. I think BV should buy my Maserati.
  18. Great read, thanks for posting it. Will you let us know if you get a response?
  19. Interiors are dead-last on my priority list, nice to have a really good one - but not a pivotal factor. Performance and exterior styling far outrank concerns about the interior. As long as the squeaks and rattles don't show-up and all of the controls are somewhat intuitive and the seats are comfortable, I'm happy.
  20. Every time I get busy and don't log-on, something explodes around here! I'm sorry that all of this is now public, but at least it should help the members understand what the staff has been dealing with for months on end. I had expected an orderly transition from this host to the next and a new (though different) relationship between Josh and C&G to happen with a minimum of hassle. Obviously, that's not what has happened. I have always considered Josh to be a friend and bear him no ill will even now, but I simply don't understand what the problem is. I have (like the rest of the staff) been on the inside of all of this for a very long time and it has gained me nothing in the way of making sense of the current acrimony. It was my understanding that we(Josh and the rest of the staff) had a mutual interest in moving forward to a new server and a staff without Josh as an admin. months ago. What happened to this agreement I will never understand. It should have been a simple changeover done in a short period of time with all parties moving on: that is what we agreed to do so long ago. Why Josh is angry now is a mystery to me. Again, I am sorry that all of this has ended up being a public debacle and not something resolved in the mod forum - but that ship has sailed. Rest assured that we will work toward a better C&G and continue to do all that we must to keep the site fully financed and operational moving forward. C&G is much more than any individual personality and exists independently from the agenda and foibles of any one member. For some of us, it is simply our home on the net and we will protect it accordingly. Here's to the future!
  21. I'm 42, you do the math. :AH-HA_wink: Today, it's just cigarettes and coffee with the occasional night of drinking(rare). Knowing what these substances really are isn't a bad thing, it tempers the official hysteria.
  22. Yeah, that view is forever lost now.
  23. Wow! very cool.
  24. I love this shot.
  25. It could be a Buick Skylark, really hard to be sure from that pic. Definitely not a 442 though.
