Had a Sambos in Wintersville, Ohio in the 70s...remember eating there as a little kid...

Sounds like there were many different Big Boy franchisees across the US. Elby's is what I remember here in Ohio from the '70s-80s. I have a Big Boys a few miles from me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Boy_Restaurants When I was in college and grad school my go-to w/ my friends was Dennys, esp. late at night after hitting the bars in downtown Kent, Ohio and Ann Arbor, Mi...

As far as Bentley goes, I like the styling of the current Continental GT coupe... and it is a hardtop. In convertible form, every time I see a pic of it I think of the Karmann-Ghia...that rear quarter character line... -

Alas, I'm pessimistic about the long term future of this country. My optimistic side would like a Star Trek high tech space exploration future, but my pessimistic realist side thinks as the US goes down the downward spiral it is going to be pretty ugly. Yeah, it's a bit grim. I generally don't get into the whole post-apocalypse or zombie genres, but that one felt a bit more grounded in a semi-plausible future. -

Chevrolet SPEED -- The Corvette C8's little MR sibling
Robert Hall replied to dwightlooi's topic in Chevrolet
I'd like to see Cadillac have a large RWD Blackwing V8 luxury performance 2dr coupe...like a production version of the Elmiraj.... leave the mid engined sportscar niche to Corvette. -
I just avoid stopping for gas in shady/seedy neighborhoods.

Chevrolet SPEED -- The Corvette C8's little MR sibling
Robert Hall replied to dwightlooi's topic in Chevrolet
I like the Speed idea...it's like a modern MR2 or Fiero...the small, affordable mid engined sports car...different niche than the Camaro. -
This guy's artwork is really cool..love the subject matter.. https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2020/03/03/making-fine-art-of-old-detective-television-show-cars-with-painter-ben-addison/?refer=news&utm_source=edaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2020-03-03

Chevrolet SPEED -- The Corvette C8's little MR sibling

Corvette has a history of upgraded performance variations, though....Z06, Grand Sport, ZR1... Cadillac needs to focus on luxury sedans and SUVs. -
and headlights...those look a bit dim

Maybe the Camaro name will reappear as a crossover coupe, based on Blazer... -
Sharp, but I can’t stand white especially on trucks and SUVs. So overdone. Now dark red or dark brown w z bit of chrome is more to my taste.

Sounds awful...with Amazon Prime, home basics like coffee, dog food, TP, paper towels, etc all come to me..can't imagine going to a store for the basics..and I rarely go to my local grocery anymore; been using Amazon/Whole Foods home delivery for grocery shopping the last month or so.. -

I don't know if it's people avoiding crowds, or just that it's a rainy Monday, but I went to a movie this evening and the theatre overall wasn't very crowded and there were only 3 people in the particular theatre I was in. Or maybe it was because I want to see a music documentary. -
Classic Cadillac names for me that I love are Eldorado, Biarritz, DeVille, Fleetwood, Brougham, Seville....I'd love to see these names over the current acronyms...older names like Series 70 or Series 61 are so far before my time as to have no resonance.

But during the 90s-00s (even back to the 80s on some models like the STS trim) Cadillac was pushing to become a modern international brand, more like the Europeans and moving away from the cushy grandpa mobile image, so something from the 50s and before would likely not have been an influence...

Actually, with Mercedes the naming scheme prior to the early 90s was a 3 digit displacement number followed by one or more letters (or not). The WXXX are internal generational platform codes, not model names. (like the W126, W140, W220 were three generations of the S-class)... WXXX codes are like GM's codes for the trucks, like GMT360, GMT400, etc.

You talking about the various Series models from ancient times? Series 70, Series 62, Series 61, etc? The only ones used the last 50+ years were Fleetwood Sixty Special and Fleetwood 75 and those haven't been used in decades.. I don't see the correlation between old, forgotten naming schemes and the modern acronyms... I really doubt if marketing resource units in the late 90s/early 00s that started the acronyms had any awareness of long gone naming schemes, they were trying to fit in w/ the Germans.

Well, they could do it on the cheap since they already have the hardware, and it gives them one more CUV in a CUV market.... I can't see them doing a RWD unibody CUV since GM is cheap and likes to reuse their generic FWD/transverse platforms...

That leaves room for an XT3 to compete with UX. Wouldn't surprise me Given how GM is adding a lot of new CUVs, it wouldn't surprise me if Cadillac doesn't get it's own version of the Encore GX. Cadillac only has 3 CUVs, compared to Chevy with 6, Buick w/ 4, and GMC with 2...
