Item: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4
Robert Hall replied to Robert Hall's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
Had it out in it's first snow today...grubby. 34k miles, running great, new Michelins are great. Who knows, I bought in AZ in April, it had come straight from a corporate lease in Costa Mesa, may never have been in snow before. -
If I had more garage space and budget, I'd throw in a Challenger SRT 392 Scat Pack and a boat and trailer. Hence the Hemi GC. Something to work towards...

If I were going to go buy new SUVs tomorrow, I'd be sensible and stick w/ Jeeps. '18 Grand Cherokee Summit Hemi and '18 Wrangler Rubicon 2dr. Those would keep me happy for years...

Heh-heh..the huge American SUVs have their place and use cases, but they wouldn't make any sense for me. They also wouldn't fit in my garage. I like the size and styling of current GLE and does share the platform and lots of dirty bits with my Grand Cherokee-- but with more complex electronics and likely more expensive failures.

The G-class is a nice size, but a bit narrow IMO...of the current crop of M-B SUVs, I'd take the GLE..just the right size, IMO.

Tech rich are different from mainstream/generic rich, though...tech rich tend to be very interested and knowledgable about high tech products and seek them out. Generic rich (athletes, doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc) go more for the established prestige brands and bling like M-Bs, Bentleys, etc...- 70 replies

Isn't there already a mostly cosmetic AMG sub-brand, like how BMW has M-sport?- 70 replies

About the same size, LX is about an 1/2 inch longer. 196.x vs 197.x. RR has a 2.x inch longer wheelbase.

I can't imagine people are buying LXes as a family hauler...makes sense to go 2 row only; the Range Rover is, isn't it? Leave the 3rd row to the family haulers, otherwise it's a waste of space...

The Highlander is a midsize CUV w/ 3 rows available.. Ford does it also on the Explorer. Different market niche than full size. I assume Cadillac will get in the game sooner or later with a 3 row XT5 (or an XT7?).

Makes sense to me, Toyota uses the same 3 row formula with the Highlander, which is on the same platform and wheelbase. So I'm not surprised it's this way. They have the GX and LX for the full-size market.

I am surprised they kept the MKC name...seems out of date now that they are moving away from TLAs. As with most automakers, Ford and Lincoln have a ladder of size categories of CUVs/SUVs. Ford Lincoln subcompact: Ecosport - compact: Escape MKC small midsize: Edge MKX/Nautilus lg midsize: Explorer - fullsize CUV: Flex MKT fullsize SUV: Expedition Navigator I assume the Flex and MKT are not long for this world, and Lincoln will get an Explorer-based CUV to replace the MKT.

Just saw a really cheesy car ad on a local channel..it was a Kia dealer, the ad had a Star Wars theme (salespeople dressed as Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie) and was hawking new Kia Fortes for $59/month or two Fortes for $100/month.
