GM News: Next-Gen GM SUVs To Appear In 2014
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
Interesting that the 800 and 900's series reversed the release of the SUV's and trucks. The mid-oughts were the height of the SUV boom, so it makes sense they would have prioritized the SUV release then... -
I can't imagine many companies would standardize on and support only IE in 2012...IE is the worst, most backward browser out there.
-
Close. When the imports first started coming here, they would list their engine in Cubic Centimeters or CC. Ah yeah...like old motorcycles that were 50CC or so...
-
I would assume it was because import automakers in the US market used litres...it didn't make sense to have two measurement scales in the same market. The US tried (and failed) to adopt the metric system in the '70s...I remember in school in the '80s only learning measurements in metric in science classes. It would seem weird to order a 0.47 liter steak in a restaurant rather than a 16 ounce one.
-
Because the rest of the world uses metric for displacement? US market models have had metric displacement for 30 years or more...

A '58 Pontiac, looks like.

GM News: Next-Gen GM SUVs To Appear In 2014

Usually 6 months or so? IIRC the 900s came out pretty close to each other.... -
I've switched my C/D, Road & Track and Automobile subscriptions to digital w/ Zinio. I still get paper subscriptions to Collectible Automobile and pick up Motorsport, Top Gear and Car occasionally. I've got 35 years worth of various magazines I've accumulated, I've bought magazine storage boxes from uline.com, they are great, hold probably 50 issues each.

Saw a new Fusion for the first time on the road yesterday, dark blue. Noticed they have one neat retro detail--the old style meet-in-middle wipers...cool.

You actually like Gmail and Google docs???? The gmail interface sucks, not user friendly IMO and Google Doc's has so many limitations that you cannot really use it for group work. Sorry, but I will stay with Sharepoint and Office Professional as the only real business tools and exchange. I use Open Office when I have to do editing on my laptop....but Google Docs work great for my company (a small group of consultants)...we use Google+ as well...we avoid any Microsoft products since those don't work well on Macs. We also use the Atlassian suite of products (Confluence instead of Sharepoint, Jira, etc), Amazon S3 for our servers, etc...we try and do everything cloud based...occasionally I have to pull a project plan/task list out of Atlassian Jira and put it in Excel for clients that are stuck in the MS ecosystem, though.

I don't like the current interior much at all, very dated. From that picture I see "Buick Lucerne" parts bin. That's what I like about the current interior, very car-like... not crude and truckish like Ford's plastic disaster...

Chevrolet News:Deep Dive: 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
The Silverado front end seems more changed relative to the current model than the GMC..the GMC's front change is primarily the lighting. Very subtle differences. Beyond evolutionary styling, what about the engines and dirty bits...have the new ones gained weight or is their any weight loss? -

Look at them again. The Chevy and GMC do not share anything in the front end. They also do not share bedside panels or taillights, the taillight cutouts are different, not just the lenses. Very subtle differences...in side profile photos, the fenders/bed sides look pretty much identical w/ bulges over the wheel openings..I don't see the difference, so I'm sure the general public won't see them either. -
These are definitely evolutionary from the '07 generation, as the '99 was evolutionary from the '88. Ford's revolutionary design was the '97, which definitely wasn't universally accepted...seems like it may have been a misstep considering they went to blocky and bland w/ the '04.

That's pretty much my experience with the iPhone. I recommend it too Except the IPhone is great at passing on Viruses, removing everyone from Outlook calendar events, does not sync with security proticols and for those of us that are not graphically induced to follow a lemming company on what you can and cannot do confusing. Before the Flame mail starts, check out apples web site as they admit with the iPhone 5 they broke security and outlook exchange email. Isilon a company I work for has plenty of apple products and so many peole have gotten things screwed up due to all the bugs in the 5. I suggest holding off till after the new year if you want a iPhone 5 and give them time to fix all the bugs. I've been happy w/ my work iPhone 5...my company does everything w/ gmail and Google docs, no old-school MS stuff...

Not sure they why the are making a big deal about the inlaid doors...trucks had them decades ago...
-
In general a truck with new styling to reflect that it is a totally new truck vs a new truck that appears more to look like a refresh of the old one. With all the new features it deserved it's own look and not just a rehash of the old one. What if they had redone a totally new Impala and it just looked like the one we have had for years? Not a smart move. Only the 911 and Mini can get away with this kind of styling. Well, it's worked with Ford--the current F150 is a mild restyle of the '04-'08 generation.
-
The dash isn't bad, not like the hideous mess that the F150 has. But the current truck dash looks much nicer, IMO...

If Mercedes made a pick up truck then the Detroit 3 would be in big trouble, because they would do it so much better. They already build commercial trucks, tough off roaders and German military vehicles, and they have an excellent 3.0 V6 diesel, loads of V8s, and if people think the Raptor is fast, imagine the AMG pickup with a 620 hp V12. Not that I am advocating Mercedes building a pick up, I think they stay focused on sedans, coupes and SUVs. Crawl back to the cave you were hibernating in. Sure MB can build a pick up truck, but then the anemic 2.5L Turbo would cost $45,000 and would have turn signals as optional. Top of the line may have $5,000 for customized amber roof marker lamps, and cost $150,000. And after three years it would be worth $65,000. How about this hellacool Sprinter pickup...

Are the new full size SUVs coming for '14 also? Will be interesting to see how they look..wonder if they have their own faces like the current generation... -

On first impressions of the pictures, I like it...definitely evolutionary from the current model, with some echoes of past models...I like the base grille, reminds of some '80s grilles. The greenhouse on the extended cab reminds me a lot of the previous generation Ram. Not sure about the interior yet...those pods around the vents on the sides seem overwrought. I think I like the current dash designs more...
