    Went out for brunch today, saw some interesting cars.. At a neat midcentury modern style furniture store next door to the restaurant, there was a red '57 Chrysler Imperial coupe in the carport..in sold shape overall, some cracks in the paint and AZ fade (the hood was almost pink). Behind the store was a similarly solid and faded orangish '60s Volvo P1800 coupe. Also saw a couple of ATSes out and about around town this morning...a silver one and a bright red one. Hard to think of it as December w/ nearly 80 degree weather..

    Agreed about the Impala...definitely could do well against the Taurus and Avalon. Portage Lakes, haven't thought of that area in ages...been there a few times about 20 years ago when I lived in Kent..went there w/ a buddy to look at a car once--guy had a rusty green '71 Grand Ville convertible for sale and a wrecked early '60s Jag E-type in his garage...

    Lots of interesting rusties in his pics, I found interesting he has not 1 but 2 '61 Catalina 2dr sedans...I thought the '61 B-body 2dr sedans had such a neat roofline...

    2wd burbans sell well here and in Texas and Florida, I would think...the stripped down nature of this one makes it a hard sell, I would think.

    Anyhoo, back on topic....I wonder if this Impala will be as heavily fleeted as the current model, not at first I suspect, but it will be a lower volume car than the current one, probably.

    -There are some great back roads in Ohio, I drove many of them when I lived there--my favorite roads being in Tuscarawas, Holmes, Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey counties..my old stomping ground...had a lot of fun there in the late 80s-mid 90s with my 5.0. One of my favorites was nicknamed Rollercoaster Road...used to bottom out my Mustang on that one by cresting hills too fast .I miss taking weekend fun drives in Ohio's green hills....just ugly desert out in the sticks here (some decent windy roads, though). But roads like those are for weekend pleasure driving, I'm talking about the daily grind to and from work...pretty much the same in most metro areas I've spent time in...congested roads in the burbs and cities...the commute takes the fun out of driving.

    Yes....as long as the dirty bits are reliable (most are today), it's the interior gadgets that count. Because that is where people spend their time w/ a car. Inside. And most buyers don't care about performance or handling, since most driving today is tedious and dull...the slog to work on congested freeways and city streets, driving through crowded parking lots, dodging incompetent drivers and zombie pedestrians. Rarely does one have time to actually have 'fun' driving a car. Thus the excitement about Google's self-driving cars...

    And few (esp. younger buyers) wants a stripped down car of any size. Interior content and electronic features is as important as mileage and price to younger buyers.

    Coming home tonight saw an older GMC military truck, one of the olive drab 6 wheeled ones w/ a tarp over the bed...parked on a side street...

    It is really nice here in winter. It's a bit warmer than normal right now. But I wouldn't recommend visiting between May and September..... too warm. This is my 5th year here, hope to be gone within 2 years...

    I like the consistent design language Porsche uses across generations..evolutionary instead of revolutionary.

    I've always liked the Eagles..kind the forerunner of the Outback and Cross Country wagons. And the 3dr hatchback, 2dr etc variations were a hoot.

    4drs are just so much easier to get in and out of in parking garages (where is seem to park most of the time), and I always put my backpack w/ laptop for work in the back seat..easier to get it out by opening a door than the old fold & slide w/ a 2dr... but for a sporty car or fun car, I like 2drs...I've had a few over the years (Mustangs and an M3). I used to believe that myself till I bought the 2008 Trailblazer SS and now am sold on performance 4 doors. No 4dr performance convertibles these days, though. For my mid 40s crisis car, I'm thinking Mustang GT convertible, Camaro SS convertible, or late model Boxster. If GM made it, would you go for a 4 door Volt Performance Convertible version? nooo. No FWD for me.

    I've been happy w/ the 4.0L 6 in my Grand Cherokee....put 140k miles on it so far...had to replace some accessories and misc stuff (coil packs, sensors, water pump, etc) but it's been pretty reliable.

    I like the lighting...the ATS has some rounding of the edges, but still pretty pointy.
