  1. It is interesting to look at the cottage industry micro cars and trucks that were built in small numbers throughout the '50s-60s...it's like they existed in a car market completely removed from the big 3 world of longer, lower wider and V8s and bigness...I'm trying to remember the name of the small Ohio company that made a tiny 4 wheel car..I've seen ads for it in old Popular Science magazine. (not Crosley).
  2. Different time and place...car makers could get away w/ a lot back then..
  3. Dealer franchising laws made sense in the 1910s...they have no place today.
  4. Hmmm '40s: '49 Olds 88 or '49 Cadillacs '50s: Olds ('57 88 in particular) '60s: each division had it's high points, IMO... Chevy ('63-67 Corvette), Pontiac (Grand Prix, GTO, Bonneville of various years), Buick ('63-65 Riv, '66-67 Riv), Cadillac ('67-69 Eldorado), Olds (Toronado) '70s:'71-72 Grand Prix, '71-72 Riviera would be high points for me, '70-73 Firebirds 80s:'79-85 E-bodies, '80-85 Seville, the '81-87 G coupes '90s: '92-97 Seville/STS, '98-99 Seville STS, Aurora, '96-99 Riv '00s:'08+ Caddy CTS '10s: Camaro, Cadillac ATS & CTS
  5. It seems like the ELR's biggest competition will be the CTS coupe in the same showroom.
  6. Saw a bronze '72 Plymouth Duster ('72 had a unique taillight treatment), and a yellow w/ black graphics '72 Dodge Demon on the freeway this morning....it's a rare sight to see 1 40 yr old car on the daily grind, let alone 2, and both A-body Mopies...wow.
  7. That Astra OPC is one slick package...it's too bad automakers don't sell 3dr hatchbacks in the US anymore.
  8. Neat..didn't realize they had the Z24 version that recently.... I remember the square late '80s Z24s...
  9. Happy B-Day, dude
  10. Would be cool if they taper the rear to a narrower end or a point like some hypermilers have done...
  11. Not sure if I like the blunt new front of the Acacia..that grille looks massive and the recessed area of the hood looks odd. I like the lights and smaller grille of the current model. Looks like that, it says 7-passenger seating on the window sticker.
  12. Nice pics..the Phoenix show is next weekend, probably a similar selection of cars..
  13. Got the new Soundgarden and Black Country Communion CDs yesterday...gave them a first listen last night, pretty good..
  14. I ate enough Hostess Fruit Pies as a kid to last a lifetime..haven't had anything from them in probably 15 years or more... used to like Twinkies and Ho-hos, though. These days, for snackage I go w/ an occasional candy bar or a 'healthy' Clif Bar (they don't taste like cardboard like other 'healthy' snaky bars).
  15. Do any of you DIY guys have experience with ordering from this site? Looks pretty good at first glance...
  16. Can't really compare hot rodded old cars to new production cars. Apples and oranges. Different realities with no correlation. Hadn't heard that..interesting.
  17. Maybe then sell 'em both and put the money into something newer w/ lower mileage...
  18. Maybe keep both and use one as a parts car for the other?
  19. Still haven't seen a Dart in the wild. My normal commutes don't take me near the closest Dodge dealer, so that's probably part of why I haven't seen one...still in a large metro area like this, I would think there would be some out and about..
  20. What are earth are you going on about? Most buyers of new luxury sedans don't modify them. There is no correlation between the Supra and Model S. Maybe the Supra and the FR-S....
  21. Have you driven one? Read that stats...the Tesla Model S is pretty quick... It is amusing.... I don't get all the hatin'.... it's exciting to see a new American car company emerging, and the Model S is a seriously good looking car, with a wheelbase longer than any current GM car, by the way, and w/ great performance from what I've read. It's nice to see an electric car that isn't a tiny FWD turd (like the Leaf, Mitsu i-Mev, etc).
  22. Besides driving around in rural Ohio on my learner's permit w/ my Dad, I also took a driver's ed class in my high school in S. Florida. The school cars were a couple early 80s Chevys--a Celebrity and an Impala, IIRC. Both tan 4drs.
  23. That's the South American Chevy Montana...called S10 in some markets apparently. FWD, based on the platform of the Chevy Agile.
  24. There was. Lots of things. That is an understatement. The only good model was the 91 Escort GT built by mazda which was a great pocket rocket, but was attacked by the insurance industry. That era of Escort had those awful motorized seat belts, though. The '84 Escort I learned to drive in and drove to school some was a 5dr diesel w/ a 5 speed, and 52 horsepower! It felt faster than the '86 Mustang LX 4cyl I had, which was a 4spd manual w/ only 96 hp...
