Buick News: Buick Announces Pricing For The Verano Turbo
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
Yes, a new Astra cabrio is on the way...apparently, a regular convertible and not the CC like the previous generation. http://www.motorauthority.com/pictures/1061302_2013-opel-astra-cabrio-spy-shots_gallery-1#100397578 -
Buick News: Buick Announces Pricing For The Verano Turbo

S40? TSX? New Beetle? A4? Mini-Cooper S? Jetta GLI? True..though those are near-lux import brands (except for VW)..just not used to seeing GM there..though they were there previously w/ SAAB. -
That story provides a lot of material for new songs.

Cheers or Jeers: 155 Mile 1982 Oldsmobile Omega
Robert Hall replied to wildmanjoe's topic in Auctions and Classifieds
Yep..the FWD X-bodies were the beginning of 3 decades of FWD mediocrity that nearly killed the company. -
Their Anteros car is interesting, but the 789 is just plain dumb..retro done very badly. But I'm sure there are enough 65 yr olds to buy that atrocity to keep them in business..

Times have definitely changed...I still can't wrap my head around the idea of a compact FWD 4cyl car going for $30k... -
Cheers or Jeers: 155 Mile 1982 Oldsmobile Omega
Robert Hall replied to wildmanjoe's topic in Auctions and Classifieds
Interesting..never seen a quasi-bench seat like that in an x-body. Can't recall how many years since I've seen one of these in any condition. I like the offset front license plate..the Phoenix and Citation had those also, IIRC. -
They had a neat looking dash design and they were hardtops, which was a rarity in 1978. Haven't seen one of these or the Challenger in years...

I like the rectangular lights on the '76 Caprice, full size Buicks, Olds, Pontiac and Caddys also. I think it's not so much the square that I like as I dislike the single round lights on the midsize models...single round lights were ok on compacts and smaller cars like the F-bodies, but I thought they looked cheap on the midsize models instead of quad lights.. I never cared for the quad stacked rectangular lights that showed up inexplicably on some A-body Buicks, Chevys, '77-79 Ford midsize and '77-78 Chrysler midsize...those looked like a bandaid. The horizontal quad rectangular lights go well w/ the '76 B-/C-/E- body models which have wide front ends w/ mostly horizontal grilles..

I've seen 3 iQs this week..one white, one black, one a metallic orange..saw a green '13 Mustang Boss 302 and a black '13 Mustang GT..

To me, those look really dated now, like the 4th gen Camaros do...

Interesting...I thought Amelia Island was traditionally the East Coast's Pebble Beach rival. Nice to see another classic car show on the schedule. I'd like to go to one of the big Concours sometime...I've been to some decent local ones in Colorado and one in So Cal (Dana Point).

Speaking of a Pinto and Versa...my sister's first car was a Pinto, and a couple years ago, she had a Versa rental here when both her Mercs were in the shop...I rode in it...strange little car.

I haven't memorized the numbers, but how big is the power gap between the M3 and M5, or C63 and E63? IIRC, the gap is narrow, esp. with the AMGs.
-
450hp seems sufficient for an ATS-v...wouldn't want it getting too close to the CTS-v power level...

SAAB News: Not This Again: Spyker Sues GM Over Saab Sale
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in SAAB / NEVS
In my current company (which is a consulting company w/ only 12 people): Grand Cherokee ('00) (moi) Grand Cherokee ('02) and current-gen Chevy Tahoe (sales VP) VW CC (my boss/CEO) Acura TL (current gen, co-CEO) VW Jetta (1997 or so) Honda Civic hybrid Honda Civic (2003 or so) Hyundai Sonata (previous gen) Toyota Tacoma (this guy also has a Cessna and '71 Chevelle project car) Toyota Prius Honda Accord (about a 2000 or so) VW Golf GTI and Mercedes Sprinter camper This company has a much lower percentage of Toyotas that other larger places I've worked over the last 15 years...- 34 replies

Those are stereotypes also, though....I know some DB BMW/MB/Audi owners, but most I know are good people..hard working tech professionals..same w/ the Prius drivers.- 34 replies

SAAB News: Not This Again: Spyker Sues GM Over Saab Sale
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in SAAB / NEVS
In my demographic bubble of people I know personally IRL (well-educated people 25-45 working in the software industry, primarily developers, a few management types) in the Phoenix and Denver metro areas, I know very few GM owners...for mainstream brands, most have Honda, Toyota, some Nissan, VW, and Hyundai products, and for premium brands, Acura, BMW, Mercedes, Infiniti, and Volvo..a few Jeep owners. I do personally know very few people out of this sample that are GM owners--one couple has a TrailBlazer and a Rendezvous, the other has his-and-hers Escalades (a regular one and an EXT--they previously had a BMW X5 and a Merc ML), another guy has a 4th gen Camaro Z-28 convertible and a Silverado, another has a '69 Chevelle and is looking at buying a new Camaro 1LE. Anecdotal, to be sure, but troubling considering the preponderance of Camrys, Civics, Corollas, and Priuses in my circle of friends and colleagues.- 34 replies

Whatever...Wikipedia didn't have the weight numbers for the MKT..I assumed it was as heavy as the similarly sized Lambdas....it's just another ugly CUV... and I don't have an 'agenda' here.

Jeep News: Spying: Jeep Liberty, Now With Turbo Power
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Jeep
Sounds like the last current-gen Liberty is going to be built August 21st. At least a year or more until the next gen is due..sounds like they didn't plan out the end of the current gen and start of the next gen very well. -
Apparently, 2011 was the last year for the Element in the US.
-
I previously mentioned, the turbo 4 has the same output as the outgoing V8. The MKT probably weighs 1000lbs more than the TC did...a 4cyl in the MKT is absurd as a 4cyl in the Enclave or Acacia would be..
