  1. Sounds like the last current-gen Liberty is going to be built August 21st. At least a year or more until the next gen is due..sounds like they didn't plan out the end of the current gen and start of the next gen very well.

  3. I previously mentioned, the turbo 4 has the same output as the outgoing V8. The MKT probably weighs 1000lbs more than the TC did...a 4cyl in the MKT is absurd as a 4cyl in the Enclave or Acacia would be..
  4. True, but still just 4 cyls...it will be interesting to see how the current turbo 4 trend plays out...turbo 4s were fairly widespread in the 80s, most of them turned out to be crap and a passing fad.
  5. FWD cars w/ 4cyl engines... not my area of interest, though I've probably driven Malibu and Fusion rentals w/ 4cyls and haven't noticed it. I have 3 rentals in the next 6 weeks scheduled, hopefully can avoid 4 cyls.
  6. The quad rectangular headlights look great on those cars...I always thought the single round headlights on GM and Chrysler midsize models then looked like a cheapskate move....

I was only 5 when these cars came out, but I vaguely remember them around...my brother was working at a Ford dealer then, and drove home many demos, incl. a black Thunderbird of this vintage, a Torino, an Elite and others...one of his buddies had a black w/ red top and red interior '75 Grand Prix...I have memories of riding in that car from around 1976-77...my brother bought a '75 Mustang II Mach 1 then, and my sister got a '76 Pinto Runabout the following year. My Mom was driving the '68 Cougar and '69 Mustang up until then, but in '77 got one of the new 'small' angular Thunderbirds (white w/ blue interior and blue partial vinyl top)...those were a reskinned '72-76 Torino. So the family cars were a '76 Lincoln Continental 4dr and '77 T-Bird until '80 when they traded them for the downsized '80 Lincoln and T-Bird...

I wouldn't include the regular Cutlass or other standard midsize, but you did include the Elite and Cougar XR-7, which is why the Regal and Cutlass Supreme should be there along w/ the Monte Carlo and Grand Prix.the Fury doesn't belong because of the Cordoba (Chrysler-Plymouth brand). The Thunderbird, Mark IV, Eldo, Toro, and Riviera are really in a separate category--full size personal luxury coupes, while the others are all mid size personal luxury coupes.
  11. Going to disagree here (in part after viewing the '75 Plymouth brochure). Tho they billed it a 'compact' in '75, seems clear the Duster would go against the Malibu, not the Fury. Even downsized (vs. the Gran Fury), the "new" Fury was still plenty large- 214" overall. Where I would agree is, I don't think it measured up image-wise well with the others listed above (Oh how far the Fury had fallen from supercar status!), to the point most overlooked it. Nah, Vailant/Duster lined up against the Maverick and Nova, Fury was against the Torino and Malibu. It was a midsize--the bumpers made it longer. The Torino and Malibu were large as well, though the 2drs had shorter wheelbases.

  15. There were quasi-luxury versions of the Matador available (Pierre Cardin). The Fury doesn't belong--the '75 mid-size Fury was to Plymouth what the Torino was to Ford or the Malibu was to Chevy---a regular mid-size 2dr. And the Regal and Cutlass Supreme are missing, as they were their brands' equivalents of the Monte Carlo or Grand Prix.
  16. Look up 'The Shocker' in the urban dictionary (It's a rather NSFW gesture). Was used on a '70s Datsun race car, BTW...2nd time I've seen a refererence to this symbol in the last couple days.
  17. The list is missing a couple--the Buick Regal and Olds Cutlass Supreme. Depending on the budget, I'd go for the Cutlass or Grand Prix, or all-in for an Eldorado or Mark IV.

  19. Interesting..haven't seen an early A-body in forever, let alone a 2dr one. So GM had a 2.5 4cyl 30 years ago, just like today.. One thing interesting about the proportions and styling...look how long the hood and decklid are compared to FWD models of today...and all the glass, probably has excellent outward visibility..
  20. So have you actually gone and looked at one in person, sat in the back seat and truly checked it out yourself or is this just part of the reposting of other comments? I sat in one...the rear door openings seem rather narrow and not much legroom with the driver's seat all the way back. But that's not surprising since they cut they wheelbase by about 5 inches when they moved to Epsilon II.

  22. Cool... mice are have always been a presence in my family barn and garages in Ohio..my folks always put rat poison in pans in the older, less driven cars..so the cars always smell of rat poison..
  23. The Lexus hybrid has more gears, more cams, and is probably heavier, though.
  24. The pricing of the Camaro gives room for performance versions of the Spark, Sonic, and Cruze in the sub-30k market...
  25. Interesting how the radiator hose attaches to the side of the block.
