  4. It is funny but I even saw 2 different Citations in the last week. Barretta's are very common and they may not be pretty but they keep on running. I saw even saw a beat up Pace car one Saturday. Most old GM cars are the choice for winter beaters or first cars for high school kids. They are easy to find, cheap and easy to repair and keep on running and running. The guy I work with has a Grand Am that is on the original engine and tranny and will hit 300,000 this fall. Now keep in mind that we also live in the snow belt of ohio where they even salt the road when the sun is out and they are clear. On the other hand it is rare to see any Asian cars older than 12 years old. Most have rotted away or were more expensive to fix than they were worth. An very old Honda here is rare. Quite different here in the dry Southwest...I see a lot more '90s Asian and European cars than domestics of that era in the daily commute. I can't recall the last time I saw a Beretta, Lumina, or any FWD GM that old.
  5. The XS is the MKS/ES competitor...i.e. FWD lux sedan. It's not really in the same heirarchy as the RWD cars...i.e. the ATS/CTS/future flagship. Cadillac is building towards a structure similar to Lexus's core lineup it seems...FWD volume sedan, FWD/AWD volume crossover, big RWD/AWD SUV, and 3 sizes of RWD/AWD sedans...
  6. Speaking of the MKZ, I saw a Zephyr in traffic today..forgot about that car (the 1st model year of the MKZ was called Zephyr).

You're not convinced that GM can build a car that can last, yet you run straight to the manufacturer with the absolute shortest testimony on build quality (of which the jury is still out on) just because of a 429hp V8........ You make no sense dude... not that you ever have. Valid point, but the Genesis has a bigger warranty than anyone else, so if something does go wrong it is covered. And as mentioned, they depreciate so they don't cost that much on the used market. The Genesis gives a lot for the money. I'm not saying I'd buy one, but I'd consider one. I'd rather have a Jag, but they cost a lot. I still couldn't see myself buying a Hyundai..seems like too much of a low-end brand like LG or Samsung is in consumer electronics.
  8. Not necessarily..the article says 'basis', not badge engineered. It will share the same Epsy Dos platform and wheelbase as the DTS does w/ the '13 Impala and LaCrosse but likely have it's own body, interior, etc?

  10. What rust? That's just dust as far as dirt is concerned. It's way cleaner than my '81's engine bay and my car is stored in winter too. Looking at the firewall, hood hings, Brake system, I just see lots of rusts for a car that supposedly been always garaged. In a damp climate, it seems to me like it would be pretty normal to see surface rust on some of the dirty bits even for a car that is always garaged...

  12. No additional engineering. It's all been done already with the 9-5. I wonder if these engines can be made quiet enough for Cadillac style, though...I'm not familiar w/ the 2.0 or 2.5, but I'm used to 4cyl engines being horrid noisy little lumps...

  14. Considering that the DTS and decades of its DeVille predecessors had a V8 standard, the idea of a full size Cadillac with a 4cyl is hard for me to fathom...

  16. Maybe in some areas, but I never see those around... I see very few GM models in day-to-day traffic that are older than 10-15 years old..
  17. Saw a rumbling '70s Plymouth Volare 4dr-- primered and worn out w/ no grille jacked up w/ wide rear tires on Cragar SS mags driving down my street...strange.

  20. Cubical I have to totally disagree with you. Out of College I bought my first pocket rocket, 1991 Ford Escort GT, the one Mazda built and it was a blast to drive till a moron trucker re-ended it and totaled the car. Then came a SRT4 Neon and that was a bad ass FWD. Look at what Audi has done with FWD luxury. You can so have a solid small FWD appliance without needing it to be RWD. If they tune it right, you will have a fun car to drive. Different niche...look at the original post. The FR-S and BRZ are RWD...if they are going to try and compete with them, then it needs to be RWD. FWD would be fine if they were doing a Mini competitor, though. Small RWD sports cars like the Miata, FR-S, etc and FWD 'hot hatches' like the GTI, Mini, 500 Abarth, etc occupy two distinctly different niches. Other than Driving dynamics of RWD versus FWD, if they are in the same price point and are well built fun machines to drive, I do not see the public caring about which set of wheels drives the auto. The general public is generally ignorant about cars, though.
