  1. Yes..the corrupt corporations that would outsource 99% of US jobs if they could.
  2. LoL..the Indian workers I've worked with over the last decade or so come here on an H1-B visa, buy Toyotas, houses, and raise families..they rarely go back..
  3. Or crumbles into fragments.
  4. Saw a very sharp, shiny gold '72 Olds Cutlass Vista Cruiser w/ woodgrain on the lower body.
  5. About the only nicknames I've used to refer to my own cars were referring to my '87 Mustang as 'redstang' when talking within family, to distinguish it from 'graystang' (when I had the '86 LX) or 'whitestang' (the '69). My brother has similar nicknames for his Mustangs (black pony (82 GT), pacecar pony (79 IPC), white pony (85 GT))... My sister's Mercs have the nicknames 'Big Dog' (the '84 500SEL, as the Big Dogs (CEOs) in the big 80s drove 'em) and 'red ride' (her nickname for her 300CE). For my Jeep, I refer to it as the 'JGC' occasionally... As far as brand or model nicknames in general, I often use 'Mopies' to refer to Mopars/Chrysler products, Mercs for Mercedes..
  6. Fascinating...I may have missed this earlier in the thread, but did the previous owner start a restoration and stop? I.e. why was the interior torn apart? Do you have any of the interior parts like the dash?
  7. Don't LEDs typically last longer than regular bulbs?
  8. Saw a Lincoln Blackwood, and a red MGA and a white MG-TC driving together on a cool, sunny Saturday.
  9. Important questions for a 2dr---are the doors too long for the get in/out in a parking garage spot test? Are they heavy? Do they have positive detents so the door wont close on you when parked uphill?
  10. 'Through Tears of Joy' by Orchestra Lunatica.. very cool post-rock instrumental in a similar style to Sigur Ros or Explosions in the Sky...great chill out music...this track was probably the best part of the movie 'The Losers', besides Zoe Saldana (she is so hot).
  11. Of the hard working Canadian immigrants I know, it took them about 7-10 years of full time work here before they got their green cards...and these are well educated six-figure income professionals.
  12. How's the side visibility? The sills seem quite high.. Ease of ingress/egress, front and back? Seat adjustability? Cupholder usefulness?
  13. He's nothing but an armed thug with a sherriff's department of armed, racist thugs... the morons here vote him into office every election...
  14. I thought Lancaster was in rural Amish country...
  15. Actually, that article didn't originate at that site..that article is on several sites, that was the first hit on a search..many articles out there if you look...racial profiling has been in the news for years. Besides, you are out in the sticks in PA, you don't have the issues they have a big SW city like Phoenix...so obviously, you wouldn't be aware of what's going on..
  16. Racial profiling has been a standard police technique for years, albeit controversial.. Article
  17. In AZ it's referred to as 'driving while Hispanic'...the police will pull over anyone that looks Hispanic w/o a reason..
  18. Saw this evening 3 cars I haven't seen examples of in years, maybe decades on a couple of 'em... a white Mazda GLC 3dr, round headlights, early model..really clean..a yellow Volvo P1800 coupe, very clean, and a last a slammed, dechromed, satin black '65 Fairlane 4dr w/ mesh grille over the headlights and grille opening. Strange. Realized the greenhouse of that era Fairlane when viewed from the side is very similar to the '67-76 Valiant and Dart.
  19. Standard corporate procedure..and I'm a minority hire in my department (a token white male US citizen).
  20. [quote name='balthazar' I had to show my passport at the doctor's earlier this year. I showed mine as proof of citizenship when I started my job earlier this year.
  21. Homer Simpson--the everyman of the last 20 years.
  22. Things have moderated at work this week...the project that's been my main stressor the last month has been pushed back to the 3rd quarter of '11 for delivery, some breathing space there. Everyone is still in shock over the death of our team member, esp. since we found out his wife was 6 mos. pregnant. Management realizes we are down 7 resource units in the last 6 months (3 ftes, 4 crus), and plans to try and hire a few new contractors in the next month....plus we have 3 more rolling out in Feb..so it's going to be interesting... Should be a 40hr week this week, then a short 2 days next week then a 5 day weekend for Thanksgiving...looking forward to some downtime..
  23. I guess it all comes down to what your goals are for the car...I'm assuming your aren't planning a concours-style restoration of a Bloomington Gold competing trailer queen. Do you want a reliable, mostly period-correct driver? A mildly modded street machine (in period or modern style)? A race car? A modern G-machine (Pro Touring) style car w/ a late model engine, big wheels and tires, etc? What time frame are you looking to sell it (i.e. build for a quick sale or build to enjoy and maybe sell down the road)? Lots of possible directions to think about...
  24. Seems like the announcement gets earlier every year...I remember when the COTY used to be a January issue thing.
  25. The GC Overland Summit looks tasty..
