  1. He's nothing but an armed thug with a sherriff's department of armed, racist thugs... the morons here vote him into office every election...
  2. I thought Lancaster was in rural Amish country...
  3. Actually, that article didn't originate at that site..that article is on several sites, that was the first hit on a search..many articles out there if you look...racial profiling has been in the news for years. Besides, you are out in the sticks in PA, you don't have the issues they have a big SW city like Phoenix...so obviously, you wouldn't be aware of what's going on..
  4. Racial profiling has been a standard police technique for years, albeit controversial.. Article
  5. In AZ it's referred to as 'driving while Hispanic'...the police will pull over anyone that looks Hispanic w/o a reason..
  6. Saw this evening 3 cars I haven't seen examples of in years, maybe decades on a couple of 'em... a white Mazda GLC 3dr, round headlights, early model..really clean..a yellow Volvo P1800 coupe, very clean, and a last a slammed, dechromed, satin black '65 Fairlane 4dr w/ mesh grille over the headlights and grille opening. Strange. Realized the greenhouse of that era Fairlane when viewed from the side is very similar to the '67-76 Valiant and Dart.
  7. Standard corporate procedure..and I'm a minority hire in my department (a token white male US citizen).
  8. [quote name='balthazar' I had to show my passport at the doctor's earlier this year. I showed mine as proof of citizenship when I started my job earlier this year.
  9. Homer Simpson--the everyman of the last 20 years.
  10. Things have moderated at work this week...the project that's been my main stressor the last month has been pushed back to the 3rd quarter of '11 for delivery, some breathing space there. Everyone is still in shock over the death of our team member, esp. since we found out his wife was 6 mos. pregnant. Management realizes we are down 7 resource units in the last 6 months (3 ftes, 4 crus), and plans to try and hire a few new contractors in the next month....plus we have 3 more rolling out in Feb..so it's going to be interesting... Should be a 40hr week this week, then a short 2 days next week then a 5 day weekend for Thanksgiving...looking forward to some downtime..
  11. I guess it all comes down to what your goals are for the car...I'm assuming your aren't planning a concours-style restoration of a Bloomington Gold competing trailer queen. Do you want a reliable, mostly period-correct driver? A mildly modded street machine (in period or modern style)? A race car? A modern G-machine (Pro Touring) style car w/ a late model engine, big wheels and tires, etc? What time frame are you looking to sell it (i.e. build for a quick sale or build to enjoy and maybe sell down the road)? Lots of possible directions to think about...
  12. Seems like the announcement gets earlier every year...I remember when the COTY used to be a January issue thing.
  13. The GC Overland Summit looks tasty..
  14. Really...must have been an early '11 release..seems like it's been around since last year... According to Wikipedia, the US version of the new Sonata was unveiled at the 2009 LA Auto Show, sales in the U.S. began in early 2010. Thought it was old.
  15. Yes, that's what it's called in NA also...for some reason, I can never remember the name of that one.
  16. The Sonata was all new for '10, so it wouldn't have been eligible for '11. The one you missed is the most obvious besides the Volt--the Leaf! The Volt is a worthy winner, though..it's different and potentially a big deal..
  17. GM probably payed MT a premium on the advertising to get the award..isn't that how it usually works?

    a 2.5L?

Maybe just rounding up then, to make the next version sound new.
  19. Saw the new Kia compact CUV whose name escapes me..neat looking, bright red..walked around it. Pretty distinctive..
  20. I don't like some of the details of the Jag like the strange rear end (the odd taillights and c-pillar trim) and the cheesy dash design (looks out of place in a luxury car with the tacked-on gauge pod and tacked-on bulgy center vents)...I find the new A8 dash much nicer, w/ more wood and better integration of vents, etc.
  21. Very cool..I've been impressed with much of what M2 has put out so far..
  22. I put 'arguably' as some could argue the new A8 or 7 series are more advanced. I still prefer the S-class..and it's the only one with a hood ornament, which is a little luxury detail I like...
  23. The S-class is still arguably the best-of-breed and the standard bearer in the premium full-size lux niche, though. The Audi A8, Lexus LS, BMW 7-series, and Jag XJ are all newer, but the Jag has some seriously ugly design elements inside and out, IMO. Whether or not eventually Cadillac plays in this space or is content to compete w/ Lincoln is all up to GM.
  24. Yeah..cars from 1950 today look so ancient compared to 1960 cars...(I wonder if it seemed that way to observers in 1960?). 1960 cars don't look today quite as dated when compared to 1970 cars, likewise lesser for 1970 compared to 1980, or 1980 to 1990, etc..much more gradual evolution of styling in subsequent decades, with a couple big shifts--downsizing and squaring starting in the late '70s, followed by roundness replacing square in the late '80s. I can remember excitedly waiting w/ anticipation for the September issue of Car & Driver (and later, Automobile magazine)...the 'Charting the Changes' section was always chock full of new and interesting changes for the coming model year, lots of surprises usually. Nowdays, with everything on the internet months or years in advance, new car announcements are ho-hum and old news by the time they get to the print rags...not to mention that many new cars aren't introduced in the fall, but at random times during the year..
  25. Seems strange to talk about cornering and Buick in the same context...I think of Buicks for smooth, quiet, more about the ride than the handling...kind of like Lincoln or Lexus.
