  1. That one has an identity crisis...Chevmobile.
  2. Yes, I noticed the UAW sticker on the right rear side window...
  3. I'd go w/ the Fortera Triple Treds or the Fortera Silent Armor, which are more all-terrain. I've had a set of the Silent Armor ones for 3 years now, been very happy w/ them...put about 45k on them so far, great in the winter, on-highway and off road.
  4. Seth
  5. Because our military structure, fleets, etc were all designed for the Cold War...not necessarily applicable to the 21st century where decentralized Islamic terrorism is the war du jour...
  6. Ya, those are MPVs...the closest European Ford/GM competitors to the Journey are the Kuga and Captiva. The Journey is a CUV, not an MPV.
  7. Hmmm....not necessarily heroes, but definitely individuals I've admired for their accomplishments in science, the computer industry, aviation, the auto industry, auto journalism, racing, sports, music, etc... Richard Feynman Carl Sagan Richard Dawkins Dennis Ritchie Ken Thompson Vint Cerf Linus Torvalds Steve Jobs Bill Joy James Gosling Chuck Yeager Kelly Johnson Frank Lloyd Wright Harley Earl Bill Mitchell (the GM one) Lee Iacocca David E Davis Pete Egan LJK Setwright Brock Yates Murray Walker Ayrton Senna Alain Prost Nigel Mansell Rubens Barrachello Mario Andretti Dan Gurney Jack Brabbham Carroll Shelby Sterling Moss Colin Chapman Ron Dennis Frank Williams Lance Armstrong Bruce Springsteen Pete Townsend Roger Waters David Gilmour Eric Clapton David 'The Edge' Evans Scott Adams
  8. I don't see the comparison w/ the Mazda5...seems like it's more a compact CUV like the Escape, CR-V, Sportage, etc. Anyway, looks like a nice update.
  9. Hmmm..not sure if the GM truck HVAC setup is similar, but I recall a number of years ago my Mom's '96 Explorer had a faulty damper door aka temperature blend door...blocked heat from coming out of the heater core. Was getting no heat or defrost functionality. Was an expensive fix IIRC, had to remove a lot of the dash to get to it..
  10. I've been with Verizon since it was AirTouch. My first cellphone back in the mid '90s was a Motorola StarTac, the first flip phone. Had a wierd skinny Sony (on a corporate MCI plan) for a while after that, then an Audiovox something, then back to Motorolas--had two Motorola V60 flip phones in the mid oughts; then a Samsung Chocolate and now the Motorola Droid. Almost strayed into tiny Nokias when they were trendy (circa 2000). Avoided the iPhone because of AT&T..love the Droid. How about this for a crappy phone--when I was back in Ohio last weekend, by brother was pestering me about finding a source for a battery for his Oki 2500 phone..from 1996. I eventually convinced him no carrier would support a phone that old now and suggested a TracPhone might be the way to go.
  11. Fun...I haven't been down in that part of Ohio in 15 years or more..I'm most familiar w/ the state routes and backroads north of I-70, east of I-77, and southeast of the Canton/Akron area east to the Ohio River.. Friday I drove I-71 up to Cleveland to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (the day started out rainy in Columbus, but was sunny, windy and cool on Lake Erie), then went down to Kent and then on to the family farm outside New Philadelphia for a couple days...got my '87 Mustang GT out (my brother had his '82 GT out) Saturday for some driving around the New Philadelphia and Sugar Creek (Amish country) area..beautiful fall weather. I'd like to have had the whole week to play. Fall is a great time for backroad tours in Ohio, IMO.
  12. One of the car mags described this as a face that inspired the Japanese monster movies of the era. It may have been the low point for Chrysler corp design, a truly repulsive face that only a salesman could love. This is the year of Fury they should have used for Christine, IMO...makes the '58 look mild. The '61 Plymouth:
  13. The way it was parked you couldn't see the front end. It's not as bad up front as other Mazdas, doesn't have the happy fish look of the 2 or 3... that reminds me..I saw a green 2 in Ohio.
  14. One car the styling kind of reminded me of, at least the greenhouse and rear quarters is the current Ford Mondeo. Though I've only seen the current gen Mondeo in photos and not in person. I like the front fenders, and the curve around the hood down below the grille...nice that it doesn't have the current smiley Mazda face. It does have one of the notorious black C-pillar triangles, but it's well executed..they should have put a tiny window there, IMHO. It's a car that seems very competent but didn't leave a big impression on me other than that it was very competent, polished and quiet. Didn't have the factory nav, but did have the Hertz Neverlost Navteq external unit..worked really well, showing little obscure township roads out in the E. Ohio hinterlands...
  15. Found that one last week..
  16. Latest fun w/ the Jeep...my sister picked me up at the airport this afternoon...on the way home, ran over some debris (that she tried to avoid) on the freeway and heard something bump around underneath....got about a mile from home (off the freeway) when the left rear tire blew out..drove a short distance on the rim into a parking lot. The entire sidewall is shredded. Called AAA and they arrived in about 10 min and changed the tire (was too tired to change it myself). Not sure if the rim is damaged or not, but my sister will be getting me a new Goodyear Fortera Silent Armor this week... Looked around underneath after getting home, the rubber liner thingy in the rear wheelwell is flapping around, looks like it's ripped loose from the rear bumper where it was screwed to...great.
  17. Picked up a white Mazda6 at Port of Columbus Airport in Columbus, Ohio Thursday afternoon, dropped it off this afternoon. White w/ charcoal cloth interior. Put about 250 miles on it driving from Columbus to Cleveland (went to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum) then down to the family farm in Tuscarawas County and back to Columbus.. Nothing really to complain about...plenty of power for a 4cyl, quiet, smooth. Comfortable, good outward visibility. Reasonable controls. No steering wheel adjustment, though I was able to adjust the seat to my liking. No MP3 jack that I could find. Didn't like the red lit gauges at night. Turn signal control was counter-intuitive. Was getting great gas mileage, I think. Good steering feel, didn't feel too nose heavy..drove it on some windy backroads in Stark and Tuscarawas counties.. Felt solid, bigger than I thought it would be. This is the 4th midsizer I've driven this year (2 Fusions and a Malibu previously), and it seemed comparable to the others I've driven. As an aside, I met C&G's own 66Stang for some good Thai and good conversation in Columbus.
  18. Was back in Ohio for a long weekend...saw a variety of interesting cars.. Black w/ black vinyl top '70 Olds 442 2dr sedan (post)..very clean (at Columbus Aiport) goldish-brown w/ white top '75/76 Le Sabre 4dr ht (looked kinda like the Flybrain car)-very clean-Columbus gold '66 GTO 2dr ht--clean, I-71 bright green w/ gold stripes '69 Mustang Mach 1 being trailered, very clean I-71 bright blue w/ white vinyl top '72 Impala Sport Coupe--very clean I-71 At the Hot Rod City restaurant in New Philadelphia, Ohio I saw yesterday: must have been a Ford car club outing--a group of older folks were there dining w/ their older cars-- lt green w/ dk green top '51 Mercury two-tone green '56 Ford convertible blue w/ white roof '56 Thunderbird red '48 Ford coupe hot rod black w/ flames '49 Ford Tudor '66 Ford Fairlane conv bronze '65 Ford Galaxie conv red '79 Caddy Sedan De Ville --green, very clean (here's some of the cars): Here's another side of the restaurant: And my 5.0 in the restaurant lot: Plus inside the restaurant, a lt blue '66 Nova 2dr sedan, black '62 Bel Air 2dr sedan, and a '30s Chevy sedan.

  20. Fun.feels like a Stephen king tale.
  21. Top company priority : profitability
  22. Happy. Birthday . Happy. Birthday . Happy. Birthday .
  23. I wonder how such a creature finds employment
  24. I like my motorola droid. Had it since may..my only internet connection this weekend in amish country.
  25. I've only seen one so far in person, a few weeks ago. I really wanted to like it from what I'd seen online, but in person...the rear is too short and tall, IMO..the edge of the decklid seems to be 4 feet off the ground..very polarizing design...
