  1. People that work in the first two categories are consumers of #3, maybe. Being in the second category (professional and technical services) I'm finding the demand to be pretty strong even in a down period...I'm getting 10-15 emails and calls a week from recruiters, both locally and nationally...they are having trouble finding people, and one thing I'm finding encouraging is that for many contracts, they aren't looking for H1-Bs..
  2. Saw a minty black '92-93 Mercedes 500E tonight...a very rare car--only about 1500 were imported to the US over 3 years. Very subtle sports sedan, not flashy like the AMG models of that era. This was a car I lusted over when I was in college..they still look great..I recognized it in the rear view mirror as was passing me, they have subtle differences from a regular 300E of that era.
  3. Walking into Chipotle for lunch, saw a middle aged woman walk out of the Jenny Craig store next door and get into a Porsche...not a safe, soft Cayenne or 911 cabrio, but a screaming yellow hardcore badazzmofo 911 GT3!
  4. I like the color of the Ocnblu truck. The new Camaro would look good in that color, I think.
  5. Saw an absolutely goregous creampuff triple black '71-72 Mercury Monterey 2dr ht this morning. Now that is an old Mercury I'd be crazy about like the song. Only negative were the goofy '50s style wide whitewall tires w/ chrome reverse wheels and baby moon hubcaps. Ick. I'd rock it w/ narrow whitewall radials and Magnum 500s.
  6. Interesting beauty spot (mole) in the first pic...they didn't do the tow hook plug in body color?
  7. I wonder if Dodge even makes them...I didn't even realize the current gen Ram was available in a regular cab until I saw one a few weeks ago. Regular cab trucks (short or long bed) are a real rare sight anymore..
  8. Well, I have gone up in the mountains in the winter a few times. But AZ will hopefully soon be in my rear view when I make my escape for greener pastures and grayer skies..
  9. After 16+ years of having SUVs as a daily driver, I can't see myself driving a compact car daily. Maybe a full size sedan. But I like the ground clearance, snow capability, high seating position, and interior space of an SUV. Even if it does only get 18 mpg.
  10. Picked it up and drove home in a downpour...seems to be running great. They replaced the crankcase sensor, CV joint boots, and rear brakes.
  11. DF called it w/ the crankshaft position sensor. That's apparently what it is. Shop also says I need front CV join boots (leaking) and rear brakes (95% worn)...been expecting the rear brakes, the current ones have probably 50k on them..
  12. Atom
  13. +1 The noise, cheap plastics, and general feeling of despair of the gray plastic interiors turn me off of most small cars...the only small car I've driven in recent years that I thought I could live with (had a nice beige and black two tone interior, lots of amenities) was a loaded Jetta rental I drove in '08..
  14. I should have checked the codes...I have my code reader in the car, but was too tired to think of it today..
  15. I remember this project...whatever became of it..was it ever finished/
  16. The fun continues... came out of the office at 4:30, wouldn't start. Cranked, but no wouldn't start. Called the shop and the towing service. 45 min later the rollback truck shows up. The Jeep starts immediately, I back it up, pull up behind the tow truck, leave it running. 2 min later it shuts itself off. Won't restart. Hauled it 25 miles to the shop. Home now. Frustrated and tired. Will be back to the Benzes tommorow.
  17. Yeah...a Buick Sport Wagon...Buick had the Sport Wagon w/ the VC roof and LWB from '64-69, but not '70-72, I think.
  18. I think other than the Vista roofs, the wagons shared sheetmetal and really only differed externally in trim, grilles, and wheels. It's too bad the Roadmaster wagon didn't have the same distinctive front clip as the sedan instead of the Caprice w/ a different grille front that it had.
  19. I can see it having it's own unique appeal---the Roadmaster, Caprice, Impala SS, Custom Cruiser, and Fleetwood Brougham all have their appeal as the last traditional full size BOF/RWD/V8 American style cars from GM. The Panthers have the same kind of appeal to me, w/ the advantage of being available an additional 14 years.
  20. Drove the Jeep to work today (after sitting a week). Wouldn't start when I went out for lunch. Waited an hour, it started. Drove to nearest auto repair shop...thought maybe it was the battery (though the battery is only a year old)...they checked it out, the terminals on the battery cables were corroded and making intermittent contact..not well grounded. Replaced the terminals...hopefully this cures the gremlins for a while. Got the blinker fluid refilled also.
  21. Would have looked much better w/o the stupid scoop...and what's up w/ the old time air cleaner--this engine has a carburator? How old-school. An EFI LSx would have been a more modern approach that could have yielded a sleeper...
  22. With compacts, $25k is now about the bottom line for anything decently equipped.
  23. Thanks for sharing.. this museum is definitely on my to-do list for future European vacations. I saw another museum on Speed's Car Crazy show recently in Germany that looked really interesting...the name of the museum and the town escapes me now (began w/ an 'H' IIRC)..has an extensive American car collection and a little bit of everything.
  24. Um, the Cobalt was only starting it's 2nd model year this time 5 years ago (came out for MY '05)..
  25. Problem is buyers still equate Chevy to Wal Mart. Low Prices Everyday.
