MY '96 is when the W210 generation E-Class began, the first w/ the 4 oval headlights. They are regarded as the point where MB started cheapening their cars, building to cost. The previous W124 (1984-1995) were still solid tanks. For the S-class, things started going downhill with the 1999 W220, it's predecessor (W140) was over 5000lbs w/ double glazing on the side windows..the last of the overengineered Panzer-class cruisers..

Found myself behind a dark green G6 GTO coupe today. Not a GTP or GXP, but a GTO. Hmmm... Saw a clean red '67 Chevelle 2dr ht on the freeway yesterday. Saw the dark blue w/ white stripes '67 Mustang GT 350 at work again yesterday and today...beautiful car.

A van version w/ a raised roof could make an interesting GM NA competitor for the Transit Connect.

If I were buying for myself w/ those as the choices I'd go for a Camaro, since I already have practicality covered.

It will be interesting to see what engines the competitors in the compact super sedan market will have in a few years. Audi currently has a V6 in their S4 IIRC, BMW has a V8 in the M3 but the next will be back to a 6 from what I've read, Merc has a V8 in C-class AMG63, and Lexus currently has a V8 in the IS-F.

I was talking about my coworker that totalled a 3-series, following up to pow's post. Yes, the car in the ad the was a manual.

The Caddy Ecto-1 ambulance looks cool. Most of the Hot Wheels I've found lately have been repaints of existing tools, like the Vega now in white. The last new tool HW I've found was the '71 Maverick Grabber in yellow I found a few weeks ago. I've mostly been collecting GL and M2 diecast this year, w/ selected Matchbox, Hot Wheels,and JLs.

Besides a buddy's 3000GT, the only other Mitsu I've driven is the Diamante from 2001. Had a couple of those as rentals, was a very pleasant drive, comfortable and smooth. Problem is that the current lineup isn't very memorable or competitive, at least in the bread and butter categories.

Back in the '90s I really liked the 3000GT...had a coworker w/ one, it was a fast, fun car, maybe a bit overstyled, though.

I've been taking walks in the morning and evening every day for a few months now, about 1 1/2 miles per day. Going to be harder to do when it's 115 in July, but I'll be swimming a lot in the pool starting in May when it gets warm enough..

Would be better than gaining 3 lbs a week. It's taken me 10 years to put on 60 lbs...hoping to take it off in 1/2 that time.

Interesting...will have to look into it..as a anti-depressant, I take Cymbalta, used to be on Zoloft. Both are milder than my Prozac-and-vodka days when I was in grad school.

IIRC from the ad, it was a personal knob (non factory part). When a friend of mine totalled his '05 3-series a few years ago, he did visit the wrecking yard and remove personal items from the car (CD, laptop computer, etc) as well as the aftermarket wheels he had put on it (though one was bent), to put on it's identical replacement...

Alas, tending to my crops in Farmville doesn't count as physical activity. About the only physical activity I've had beyond light house cleaning this weekend was taking the string trimmer to cut some weeds in the back yard, checking the air in the tires on the cars, and washing 3 of the dogs. Too many hours w/ the laptop glued to the the TV & tiVo this weekend...catching up on recent '24', 'Southland', 'South Park', and 'Doctor Who' episodes and the F1 Chinese Grand Prix. It was 96 degrees today, too hot to go outside, I rationalized..

Something that is like a modern Jeep XJ Cherokee could do well, I think. The Liberty doesn't live up to the old Cherokee, IMHO...about the only thing in the NA market like it today is the Nissan Xterra. Something cheap, rugged and reliable.

I still don't like the Bangle 7, esp. from the rear. I like the styling of the previous gen 7 and 5 much more. I still don't care for the 6 series, esp. the rear. My favorite era of BMW styling is from around 2002 or so, right before Bangleization. As far as the thread, as a kid I didn't care for AMCs of the day (like the hideous Pacer and Gremlin, and later Alliance and Encore), but later I grew to really like the Eagles, they were ahead of their time as far as the CUV world goes (kind of went where cars like the Subaru Outback, Audi Allroad, Volvo XC70 would go many years earlier).

ED Beta (Extended Definition Beta). My folks did the Beta thing from '82-88 before giving up and switching to VHS since it was so hard to find much on Beta. We had a regular Sony Betamax and one of the ED ones, still works (my Mom still has about 500 movies on Beta from then).

Beautiful spring morning...went out for breakfast driving my sister's 300CE (back on the road after parked for a year), sunroof open, all the windows down, enjoying driving a red hardtop. Saw a black '10 Camaro SS and a sharp yellow and white two tone '64-66 Suburban.

I like the 2nd gen Z4 that's out now way more than the Bangle one..I didn't mind the front or side sculpturing of the Bangle Z4, but I find the decklid dreadful...

I still don't like the Bangle 7 or Z4, but the 5 for some reason has really grown on me the last couple years, esp. the in some of the details--the headlights, taillights, wheel choices. I've briefly driven a few (a friend traded an '00 540i on an '07 535xi wagon last year, a 530 and 540 at a Cadillac ride-and-drive event a couple years ago). And I like the Bangle-era 3 series overall, the coupe and coupe-convertible moreso than the sedan.
