  1. That's got to be a rare one. Those were neat cars.
  2. Never taken it, but many of my coworkers had taken it at the start up I was at last summer--they all had their M-B codes posted on the company Wiki. But they were all conformists, IMHO, since almost all drove Toyotas.

    Pie

Best Key Lime pie I've ever had is in Key West, made from local Key Limes, but I'm biased towards the Keys since I used to live there. My Mom loves making peach cobbler and peach pie using peaches she grows, but I've never cared for peaches that much...I'm more a fan of banana creme pie and coconut creme.
  4. Wow...wonder how they did that. Yet another argument for designing break-away trees.
  5. Saw a gorgeous '65 Mustang GT coupe today, black, deep window tint, 5-spoke 'Bullitt' style AR mags, '70s gold AZ plate. Also saw a bright red '09 Challenger SRT8...looks much better in red than orange, IMHO.
  6. Sorry to hear to that...hope you can get it back on the road. I'm hoping I can get 200k out of the 4.0 in my Jeep, only 97k now.
  7. Sorry to hear to that...hope you can get it back on the road.
  8. I remember that thread...whatever happened to the car? You still driving it?
  9. Nice old beast..what color is the inside? Looks like black outside, black inside? Speaking of older luxo boats, I've been really enjoying my sister's old money pit I've been driving off and on as a daily driver the last 6 months---'84 Merc 500SEL w/ 178,xxx miles. She bought it back in '01 for $3k w/ a salvage title (was rebuilt after a head-on collision in '94). Just had $1100 in repairs yesterday (brake master cylinder blew out last week, front calipers, sun roof clippy thing, left front turn signal housing, etc). Back at the beginning of Jan it had about $700 in work for the broken gas pedal, one failed power window, and several other small things..she's on a first name basis with German Auto, the neighborhood independent Merc/BMW/Porsche repair shop and dealer. All in all, though, this old tank is growing on me (like a fungus?). By the way, 68, are you keeping the 500SEC? You change cars so fast, I can't keep track. I wouldn't mind having an '80s 6-series someday, as a teenager back in the day I remember lusting after the M6, esp. in bright red, around '87-88 time frame. There is a gorgeous red one around here. Over at German Auto this morning, I was checking out their used car area, they have a sweet silver '72 280SEL 4.5...those old SELs were pretty small compared to later ones--it's silver w/ black interior--the interior is perfect, probably not a native AZ car. I'm enjoying the downtime this week, starting my new gig next week. Probably going to drive up in the mountains and to the lakes and sightsee Thurs-Sat.
  10. Arsonist targets green Escorts
  11. Had to make an airport run at early o'clock this morning..on the way back, saw a clean black '65-67 Corvair coupe and a tan early '60s Rambler American convertible.
  12. Cool...low miles for a 21 yr old car. My experience is with older Mercs, but AFAIK old BMWs are pretty nice also, albeit potentially expensive money pits like Mercs as the miles pile on and they age...
  13. Interesting..haven't seen a '91-96 Caprice cruiser in ages...but, the Phoenix Police department still has at least 1 '87-90 Caprice police car still in service---I've seen it driving around downtown 4 times in the last few months, w/ a uniformed officer driving.
  14. Whatever...4 snow tires are better than 2. Besides, 4 matching rims looked better than non matching. Back in the day ('88-94), I ran snows from mid-Oct to March in Ohio and Michigan, IIRC. Then summer tires the rest of the year.
  15. Yeah, the theory was that having them on the front gives extra traction to help with stopping, at least on old cars that had rear drums. In 60+ years of driving in the Rust Belt, my Dad only had one FWD car and 2 4x4s.. the rest were RWD cars, and a couple RWD pickups. If I didn't have a 4WD SUV, I'd probably have a RWD car w/ good snow tires like Blizzaks all the way around for winter driving.
  16. Yes, after all, 30+ years ago, most people (90% or more?) drove RWD in the winter, even in the rust belt. The key, as I learned from my Dad, was snow tires on all 4 wheels and most importantly, knowing how to drive in winter.
  17. Beautiful car....I love the styling of the 3rd gens way over the 4th gens.
  18. A premium larger Cadillac sedan would also need a modern DOHC V8, and they have already cancelled the next gen Northstar. Cadillac is probably going to have a FWD/AWD V6 replacement for the STS/DTS, to compete with the MKS in the $40k-50k FWD/AWD soft-lux market..
  19. Sightings today---a beautiful red w/ black hood graphics '70 Mustang Mach 1 (my 2nd favorite year of classic Mustang, after the '69), a clean '64-65 Plymouth Valiant convertible (white w/the top down, blue interior), a pale yellow '70s/early '80s Merc 450SL roadster w/ the top down (love those little cars, even with the big bumpers), and a sharp red w/ black stripes, black vinyl top '67 Camaro SS/RS.
  20. I like your sig quote from Dan Fogelberg.
  21. Had to go to Ace Hardware for some line for my string trimmer (spring cleaning of the yard today), saw a goregous dark green '71 Buick Centurion conv. w/ the top down in the lot, I've seen this car drive by before, never saw it up close, in really clean shape.
  22. Yeah, reupholster the seats, ditch the lameo steering wheel, get some wide whites on wires, and that would be a sweet weekend car show toy.
  23. I'm interested in seeing what Verizon offers eventually on the Google Android platform...the HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1 is about the only one out there currently. I'm usually an early adopter on many technologies, but not phones.
  24. That's because of the recessions in multiple countries currently, though. Not because of the inherent goodness/superiority of RWD.
  25. Yes, Twitter is just a quicker way to access the blogs and the news. It's still somewhat of an experiment, really. The flow of tweets would probably drive me crazy if I was subscribing to it on my phone, haven't gone that far yet. For a lot of bloggage, I really like Google Reader to aggregate a lot of RSS feeds. I actually turn off my cell phone at night, when I'm driving and sometimes on my weekend...drives my friends and family crazy. I'm still on the fence w/ smartphones, thought about getting an iPhone or maybe a Blackberry Storm. I don't want to go w/ AT&T and love tiny phones that fit in my front pants pocket, don't care for large phones.
