  1. Sounds like fun.. I want to go out and search for America sometime...take a few weeks in June or September, a V8 convertible, a laptop, a cell phone, a bit of luggage, a good map and a GPS. Just drive to all the places in the lower 48 I've wanted to go to but haven't been to yet..
  2. I don't know from what reality you got those numbers, but an '80 Impala definitely didn't get 35mpg or have 300hp. More like 120 hp, 20 mpg.
  3. I've never been on a Greyhound, but I do want to do the coast to coast drive eventually. I've some pretty long drives (1000 miles +), both by myself and with others--driven from San Jose, Ca to Denver ('04 Impala), Ann Arbor, Mi to Colorado Springs via Chicago (87 Mustang GT), Ann Arbor to Boston (87 Mustang GT), Cleveland area to Boston (Mustang GT), Ann Arbor to Baltimore (Mustang GT) , Pittsburgh area to the Florida Keys (Mustang GT, Ford Escort), but never all the way across country.
  4. How about this: which would be worse to have to drive for a week coast-to-coast---a Yaris, an Aveo, a G3 (you'd have excitement!) or an Accent--about the lowest of the low I can think of for new cars. I think I'd rather take a Greyhound bus coast to coast than drive one of those.
  5. At my last apartment, I got back about $20 out of a $300 security deposit. Besides the destroyed garage door (I backed through it when closed), I also pretty much destroyed both bathrooms (weak modern low-flush toilets always stopped up, the tub separated from the wall, carpeting pretty much worn out, etc.. It was a brand-new place, I was the first resident, stayed there 5 years until I bought my 1st condo.
  6. That first gen Camry has Ohio-grade rust!
  7. I finally got around to seeing the first Transformers movie last night. Cheesy dialogue (then again, it is Michael Bay), but some cool cars and decent special effects. I never got into Transformers as a kid--I was a bit too old when they were the big deal--but I knew the basic themes. Fun popcorn movie. Looking forward to the sequel.
  8. Ah...that's the car that's supposed to be in the Transformers sequel.
  9. Yeah, I'd take a hatchback over a trunk anyday in a small car. And hatchbacks usually have a cover over the rear area. When I'm traveling for myself and need to rent a car, I try and avoid anything smaller than a midsize...I'm happy with a Taurus, Grand Marquis, or Town Car (which are the cars I've rented the most frequently over the last 6-8 years), or a Mustang convertible if I'm someplace fun in warm weather.
  10. Sounds like something straight out of 2002-2006 or so. Kia's a bit behind the curve, it looks like.
  11. I'm sure Avis, Alamo, Enterprise, etc are happy with it.
  12. Speaking of Mopeys, check out this motor--bigger than a Hemi.. I always liked the front end of the St. Regis..haven't seen one in ages...most in Ca were probably totaled in TJ Hocker and other '80s cop shows... Chrysler Tank engine
  13. Went out for lunch..tried a new Mexican place nearby--had some tasty fajitas, sopapillas and a Tecate (dining outside in February--springtime in AZ), and saw an real oddball--a very amateurish Pro Street style '66 Chevelle wagon--no hood, big blower almost as high as the roof, F&F style wing on the back of the roof, wierd aluminum grille, half flat red, half flat black. Saw a couple Ford trucks out of the ordinary--a late model regular cab w/ a Lincoln Mark LT front end and taillgate, and first of the new style '09 regular cab F150s I've seen.. Apparently, they went away from the tiny rear opening doors with a narrow window like on the previous gen and now have longer doors in a regular style regular cab (but with some black plastic cheese where the narrow window would have been on the previous gen..the one I saw was painted retro style in a pale blue w/a white roof.
  14. Beautiful spring morning here...when I was out earlier, I saw a sharp pale yellow '67 Camaro RS convertible go by, top down, and for something really offbeat, a black vintage Citroen Traction Avant.
  15. Interesting...would be a great place for an evil genius to have their underground lair.
  16. I feel really old...I remember those ads. Ah, the excitement of an '80 Tercel.
  17. I have no idea what that pic represents...innards of an engine? Looks like camshafts, chains, and goo...
  18. Cool...
  19. Cool...my phone interview went well, probably will have an in-person w/ them next week. Hope to get a few more interviews in motion over the next couple of weeks. Update: later in the afternoon, confirmed the in-person interview for Monday afternoon. Got emails from other recruiters about 2 other positions..
  20. With my current client, I either have a job for A) 4 more hours, B) 1 week, C) 1 month, or D) unknown. My current contract was originally thru the end of March. But then two weeks ago, they told me that they had no more budget and that my contract would wind down this week. The same day, my contracting house emailed me that it had been extended until July 1. The next day, they came back and said through the end of February. Last week, they revised that to through today. Yesterday, the project manager said through the end of February. Who knows. The pay keeps getting direct deposited every Friday though.
  21. I've got a phone interview this afternoon... my current contract is winding down, back on the hunt again. Hope to get another gig going by April 1 or so.
  22. Or they will pat you on the back...as I've seen firsthand, there is tremendous peer pressure out there to buy Toyotas.
  23. Looks like the Tool dude--Maynard James Keenan-- who, like me, is from Ohio and lives now in Arizona.
  24. Mmmmm...ribbed for your pleasure and excitement. My car has gray ribbed cladding on the lower body, but a giant trapazoidal grille and a 3 pointed star hood ornament. 4800lbs, 121 inch wheelbase, 177k miles of gas guzzling V8 Teutonic commuter car...
  25. All this talk of Pontiacs really makes me want to own one... I'd love to have the garage space for a G8 GXP and a '71-72 Grand Prix...
