  1. Yes, dull, predictable choices.
  2. Agreed...unveiling things at the NAIAS just perputates the image of Detroit and the Midwest as the GMNA's core market..
  3. Reminds me of the timeline leading up to the United Federation of Planets in Star Trek mythology...sometime, maybe the 21st or 22nd century, Earth united into one single government for betterment of humanity and all.... As seen on Wikipedia, "The United Earth (UE) is the Earth's world government in the "present" for all Star Trek series. It existed as early as 2067, unified all of Earth's nations by 2150, and still exists in the 24th century. The episodes "Demons" (ENT) and "Terra Prime" (ENT) established that the United Earth is a parliamentary system of government. In 2155, Nathan Samuels served as one of the ministers. " (of course, all of this happened in the post-nuclear war horror of the aftermath of WW III, which takes place in 2053).
  4. And if they had their way (the fundies), they'd probably rip up the Constitiution and create a theocracy. Lots of nut jobs out there of all stripes with all sorts of crazy theories.... I'm more worried about the rise of Skynet and the robots...I think Google is becoming Cyberdyne...
  5. Yeah...I just wish they had done a better job with their recent compact and midsize cars.. the '90s 'cloud' cars were great looking, IMHO. I saw a black Charger and a black Intrepid--both R/Ts--parked together in a parking garage recently...both great, distinct stylish designs, IMHO.
  6. I agree, if you don't participate, you have no right to complain about who get elected. Talk about odd--I saw an Explorer with an Obama sticker on the left side of the bumper, and a McCain sticker on the right side of the bumper. A couple that had differing political views? Someone playing it both ways and hedging their bets?
  7. Yeah, maybe they will do something with a unique Lexus style and not just a rebadge...Lexus models have been sold in Europe for a while, don't know how successful they have been.
  8. Nothing wrong with that...I have Obama stickers on my cars.
  9. Sounds like it...premium C-segment hatches are a hot niche in Europe.... the A3 really hasn't caught on big here yet.
  10. QUOTE (MyerShift @ Oct 26 2008, 08:21 PM) Strange things said about my car? Well, for my Mk V Golf (Volkswagen Rabbit) the strangest thing I've heard is that... "It's a gay looking car." I don't get it. Well, what I've heard that about Jettas...apparently, they are a gay icon in the SF Bay Area...a straight coworker of mine in Denver who had moved from Ca driving a '99 Jetta was always getting teased about it by people that knew about that stereotype...similar to the stereotype about Subaru wagons and lesbians in some areas..though I haven't heard it applied to Golfs or Rabbits.
  11. Hmmm...was the end of a dance move or something? Or did they hold that pose for a while..
  12. QUOTE (gm4life @ Oct 26 2008, 07:59 PM) It is still made in Japan only putting our country in a deeper hole trade wise. Another fact any Toyota built in North America all the profits go over to that evil blood sucking Jap company. Nice..bring out the racist slur...
  13. Yes... there are lots of interesting directions powertrains can take in the future.... these are two good examples, along with full electrics, the fuel cell cars, clean diesels, etc..
  14. What's wrong with that? Every car does make a statement about the owner's choice. Nothing wrong with the Prius' 'statement'. It is a clean, efficient, very modern car. Nothing wrong with that. Why the hostility?
  15. I seem to remember also a Buick Special of those years, a coupe with the fastback roofline and the triangular rear quarter window. The Buick and Olds coupes from '76-77 seem flatter-sided than the '73-74 models, less sculpted. I always liked the Supreme of those years, and the 442 with the fastback roofline and angled back grille. I remember as a kid for a few years my older brother had a girlfriend that drove a brown '76 Cutlass Supreme coupe w/ a tan top and interior...nice car, I remember riding around the Pittsburgh area in it in the late '70s-early 80s.
  16. Yeah...that's where FWD would come in for most people. If I can only have one vehicle in a snowy climate, I'd probably stick with a 4x4 SUV, or maybe an AWD sedan.
  17. I'd go for the V8 w/ a manual. If I bought a Camaro/Mustang/Challenger, it would be a fun 2nd/3rd car, not a daily driver.
  18. That's hilarious... I once urinated on my Jeep in a snow storm after going to a hockey game with Canadians and drinking too much..
  19. That's what I would have liked to have seen also, but given the current reality, I think the more realistic scenario are Chevy FWD rebadges for Avis, no Solstice and G8 replacements, and phase out before 2015...
  20. Yeah, color inside and out would be tough for me. I know with the Mustang what my perfect color combo is (tungsten gray exterior, black w/ red trim interior). With the Camaro, I think white w/ a black interior would be very striking, though i usually don't like white.
  21. Even in places with snow, I'd still own RWD cars. And a 4x4 SUV for winter use. (That's what I did in Michigan and Colorado).
  22. I think 68 isn't capable of understanding the appeal the Accord, Camry, etc has to the mass market. The mainstream that buy a new car want to maximize their value for money, reliability, and resale value..they go with models that are proven winners in that regard.
  23. It's too bad they never built something that looked like the Citation IV...it would have looked modern today even..definitely was the precursor of the EV-1's shape. I was inspired after I saw it at Epcot Center..
  24. What's funny to me is the Prius looks a lot like the monospace futuristic cars I sketched as a kid in the '80s. After seeing the Chevy Citation IV prototype at Ecpot Center at Disney World, I was inspired to draw a lot of monospaces... everything I drew in the '80s kind of looked like the Prius, the EV-1, GM dustbuster vans, and the Chrysler LHes (cab forward, very sleek). I guess I was ahead of my time..
  25. Hmmm..I thought it was a glowing brain at first, now it reminds me of one of the Hindu gods.
