Yes, I don't see anything wrong with that...offer some diesels, make upgrades here and there, and the Suburban, Tahoe, and Yukon could stay around as long as there is demand. Chevy has the Uplander to handle the family wagon market.

I've actually had the clerks at Hertz ask me I instead if wanted a Sable or something smaller...I usually always try and reserve a GM or TC. I'd love to drive a Mini Cooper S....there are some small cars I really like, and though I love modern sports sedans like the CTS and various BMWs, I also enjoy the classic American land yachts...

I had a Sebring convertible in Florida this summer....for some reason, I couldn't get a Mustang convertible at Hertz for that weekend. Ended up picking up a Sebring conv. in Miami....nasty interior plastics, and the driver's seat recline handle broke off in my hand. Ugh. When I went back to Ohio Labor Day weekend, though, Hertz in Pittsburgh had my usual Grand Marquis available, as did Hertz in Denver a couple weeks ago. I'm always happy to float along in a Panther boat...

I had a few buddies in high school that had diesel GMs that were hand-me-downs from their folks...an '81 Caddy Fleetwood Brougham, an '81 Olds 88, an '81 Pontiac Bonneville..all diesels in Marathon, FL. I had my '84 Ford Escort diesel. I got 58 MPG once in a long, flat 55 mph freeway drive...

Diesels rock. If GM were more forward-thinking, they would have some diesels in NA ASAP. I want to see a diesel CTS. A diesel Camaro (lots of torque, w/ a manual transmission). A diesel G8. etc..

Heh-heh...I like the oldies, like alot of current cars, and am looking forward to the future... trying to be optimistic about the future (which goes against my natural tendency to be pessimistic or nihilistic).

Yeah...I just wish they had done a better job with their recent compact and midsize cars.. the '90s 'cloud' cars were great looking, IMHO. I saw a black Charger and a black Intrepid--both R/Ts--parked together in a parking garage recently...both great, distinct stylish designs, IMHO.

I agree, if you don't participate, you have no right to complain about who get elected. Talk about odd--I saw an Explorer with an Obama sticker on the left side of the bumper, and a McCain sticker on the right side of the bumper. A couple that had differing political views? Someone playing it both ways and hedging their bets?

Yeah, maybe they will do something with a unique Lexus style and not just a rebadge...Lexus models have been sold in Europe for a while, don't know how successful they have been.

Sounds like it...premium C-segment hatches are a hot niche in Europe.... the A3 really hasn't caught on big here yet.

Yes... there are lots of interesting directions powertrains can take in the future.... these are two good examples, along with full electrics, the fuel cell cars, clean diesels, etc..

What's wrong with that? Every car does make a statement about the owner's choice. Nothing wrong with the Prius' 'statement'. It is a clean, efficient, very modern car. Nothing wrong with that. Why the hostility?

I seem to remember also a Buick Special of those years, a coupe with the fastback roofline and the triangular rear quarter window. The Buick and Olds coupes from '76-77 seem flatter-sided than the '73-74 models, less sculpted. I always liked the Supreme of those years, and the 442 with the fastback roofline and angled back grille. I remember as a kid for a few years my older brother had a girlfriend that drove a brown '76 Cutlass Supreme coupe w/ a tan top and interior...nice car, I remember riding around the Pittsburgh area in it in the late '70s-early 80s.
