  1. No doubt..I haven't worked with 64bit XP, heard it's good. In my work, I've found the production environments tend to usually be IBM, HP or Sun servers with UNIX or Linux because that's where the best performance for Java app servers (usually either Weblogic, Websphere, JBOSS) fronting Oracle tends to be found (OLTP, financial number crunching, data mining, etc). Though the day-to-day development work is usually done on Windows or Macs.
  2. I'm going to have to give Ubuntu a try...have used RedHat and SuSe the most as far as Linux distros go. I've been running Win XP on VMWare on my Mac this year (since there are a few things I have to run Windows to use,).
  3. Saw $2.63 a gallon this morning... bought $45 worth yesterday @ 2.65 a gallon.
  4. A convertible with the 3.6 DI and a 6 spd manual would be sweet..it's too bad GMNA is so stingy with the manual transmissions.
  5. It's interesting how perceptions of OSes have changed through time. When I was in college and grad school 12-15+ years ago, UNIXes (Solaris, HP-UX, BSD, etc) were the only operating systems worth using--for hardcore folk like myself (2 degrees in computer science) it was the most serious way to go---the internet was built on UNIX after all (the routers, mail servers, etc all run/ran on UNIXes). Windows was garbage for the masses, the civilians. My Mom or brother could use Windows. Macs were for graphic artists and other artsy types. Times have changed...Windows has become a lot better, and Macs gained tremendous cred amongst those of us in the life with the introduction of OS X, which has pure UNIX goodness inside with a pretty face. I'm much more likely to use a Mac than putz around with Linux these days, since most of my development is with IDEs w/ Java and Ruby, I don't have to be as OS-centric as it was back in the day.
  6. Yes, that was it...pretty cool rig.
  7. Nah...I just use the two laptops (a Toshiba w/ Win Vista, and a Mac Book Pro). The others I used to use...some are in storage, some are still networked in my home office but turned off... I used the Linux boxes years ago to teach myself how to install and set up Oracle and app servers on Linux.
  8. Mmmm..blueberry. One thing I miss about summer in Ohio was picking fresh blueberries, blackberries, and black and red raspberries. Don't have any of that in the desert.
  9. I use Win XP Pro at work. Have Win Vista Home Premium and Mac OS X at home (main laptops). Also have some older desktops back in Colorado that I don't use much with Win XP home, SuSE Linux/ Win 2k Pro dual boot, Red Hat Linux/Win 98 dual boot, and an old Sun Sparc Ultra workstation w/ Sun OS. Also, two ancient laptops--one Win 2k/Red Hat Linux dual boot, and one with Win 95. I'm a bit of a computer pack rat..never seem to get rid of old hardware.
  10. What did it have under the hood? An SBC? Hopefully it won't be parted out..
  11. Roto Rooter (in lieu of calling a plumber, I recommend keeping Liquid Plumr Foaming Pipe Snake on hand--it's teh bomb! I have 2 bottles of it and 2 plungers in each bathroom, always ready for toilet unclogging action)
  12. Saw a goregous silver blue '63 or '64 Riviera this evening.. white wall tires.. minty condition.
  13. Electrolux (my folks had an old tube-shaped Electrolux vacuum cleaner, really cool design).
  14. Cool... I think the Buick Sportwagon version (w/ the long wheelbase and raised roof w/ glass) was only around thru '68-69. Apparently, it was still called Sportwagon from '70-? but with a normal wheelbase and roof..
  15. Hmmm.... well, I've never gotten into Russian or Eastern European cuisine, or Scandanavian fishy dishes..
  16. Mine would be MSRP 36,750. SS w/ 6spd manual, RS package, sunroof, polished aluminum wheels, Cyber grey w/ tan interior. Sweet.
  17. Saw a nice early '60s (4 headlight) Rolls Royce saloon at a Chevron station...black and a light gold too tone.
  18. Isn't there an Intercourse, PA also?
  19. Heh-heh...I'm like that also...some of favorite cuisines are Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Indian, and I like it hot. I like sushi also.... but I love Italian, Greek, and other Mediterranean/N. African cuisines (Lebanese, Moroccan, Israeli, Persian, Ethiopian, etc...). Like German and French as well, and good old 'mercun (esp. the various regional BBQ dishes) and Mexican/SW cuisine. One of the many reasons I could never go rural is I like having a wide variety of cuisines close by..
  20. I have a Packard connection in my family...my dad's first car was a silver 1939 Packard 120 coupe that he got from his dad after coming back from WWII...it's the car he drove frequently from Baltimore to E. Kentucky to visit my mom when they were dating, the car they drove on their honeymoon to Miami...they replaced it with their first new car, a 49 Ford Fordor about the time my older brother was born (21 years before I was born). I've seen a couple grainy B&W photos of it. Looked like a neat car.
  21. I can relate...I have very good friends that are conservative, very good friends that are liberal. My own family is divided--my mom and brother are hard-core conservative (without the religious angle, though, which is odd--no one in my immediate family are very religious) and Republican and my sister and I are liberals and Democrats. My late father was more middle of the road and pragmatic. Some times it's very hard to find common ground.
  22. 3hrs now, 2 hrs tomorrow. Fountain Hills is a nice area, I have a buddy there.
  23. Saw a dark green '75-76 Eldo convertible and a yellow '64 Buick Skylark 2dr ht today, both very clean.
  24. Won't be doing that here. AZ isn't down with DST.
  25. Not on a date, but I've heard that from coworkers before once they've gotten to know me. At the last place I was, there was subtle peer pressure from my team and management to drive a Toyota... (across the company, there were several Priuses, Camrys, a Matrix, an FJ Cruiser, etc).
