  1. The Chrysler thing around '81 were loan guarantees that they paid back in full within a few years, IIRC.
  2. I'd rather be in Boulder than most anywhere in the US... damn, I miss Colorado. AZ is so boring..
  3. Some kind of railway sign I suppose.
  4. Not doing much for Halloween, going to miss out on the HW party I've gone to every year for the last 10 years in Denver..but I'm going to phone in for a while to say hi to my inebriated friends in suburbia...
  5. Yeah, the Enclave is only 0.2 inches shorter, same width, over 4 inches lower, wheelbase almost 3 inches longer than the Tahoe. The Tahoe just looks bigger because it's square and truckular, while the Enclave is curvy and sleeker.
  6. The thought of a nationalised auto industry made up of merged, failing companies reminds of what happened in the 1970s with British Leyland. And we all know how that company turned out... British Leyland
  7. A Palin presidency is something that has potential to be far worse than a Bush presidency. She's a scary, far-right evangelical nut job. If she were elected, I'd give up any hope for the future of US....an election of Palin would prove that the American people are fundamentally stupid.

  10. Wow...that may be the ultimate B-pillar.
  11. I was there in March for an afternoon and evening...has a decent waterfront along the Ohio River..decent downtown.
  12. Evo is one of the top UK car magazines, along with Top Gear and Car. Here's a link to a video on 'The Beast'...sounds very strange, like a squeaking railway car...interesting stuff. Haven't found much in the way of details, except maybe the front end....long hood, kind of a beige shooting brake body style. 27 litres! I found this on Wikipedia, a bit of info on 'The Beast' and another car: "Michael Wilcock of Sussex, England built the Swandean Spitfire Special[1], using a Merlin XXV engined acquired from a a scrap yard for one hundred and forty pounds. The engine was installed in a home-brewed chassis confected from two Daimler Dingo scout car chassis. The car was run in the Brighton Speed Trials[2] in 1953, and was sold to James Duffy of St. Louis, Missouri in 1956. As of 2005, the vehicle is still in St. Louis, where it is undergoing restoration. In the 1960s, Paul Jameson put a Merlin engine into a chassis he had built himself.[citation needed] He did not get around to building a body, and sold the car to Epsom automatic transmission specialist John Dodd, who fitted a fibreglass body based on the shape of the Ford Capri and named the machine "The Beast".[3][dead link] The Beast was once listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most powerful road car.[citation needed] The engine came from a Boulton Paul Balliol training aircraft.[citation needed] The car used a General Motors TH400 automatic transmission"
  13. The thought of McCain passing on while in the White House is the most horrifying in-office scenario I can think of in the next four years. President Palin? AUUGGGGGGHHHH
  14. mobile loo
  15. Yes, many of them probably support Bush...the Republican party has many closeted (and not so closeted) racists and armed psychos.
  16. Since they just came out for '07, I can't see the need to redesign them for at least 10 years, since that niche is not as hot as it used to be..
  17. Yes, I don't see anything wrong with that...offer some diesels, make upgrades here and there, and the Suburban, Tahoe, and Yukon could stay around as long as there is demand. Chevy has the Uplander to handle the family wagon market.
  18. I've actually had the clerks at Hertz ask me I instead if wanted a Sable or something smaller...I usually always try and reserve a GM or TC. I'd love to drive a Mini Cooper S....there are some small cars I really like, and though I love modern sports sedans like the CTS and various BMWs, I also enjoy the classic American land yachts...
  19. I had a Sebring convertible in Florida this summer....for some reason, I couldn't get a Mustang convertible at Hertz for that weekend. Ended up picking up a Sebring conv. in Miami....nasty interior plastics, and the driver's seat recline handle broke off in my hand. Ugh. When I went back to Ohio Labor Day weekend, though, Hertz in Pittsburgh had my usual Grand Marquis available, as did Hertz in Denver a couple weeks ago. I'm always happy to float along in a Panther boat...

  21. latest breaking news: Feds Disrupt Plot to Assisinate Obama I wonder if these yahoos were funded by the RNC or some Southern fundie Christian organisation.
  22. I had a few buddies in high school that had diesel GMs that were hand-me-downs from their folks...an '81 Caddy Fleetwood Brougham, an '81 Olds 88, an '81 Pontiac Bonneville..all diesels in Marathon, FL. I had my '84 Ford Escort diesel. I got 58 MPG once in a long, flat 55 mph freeway drive...
  23. QUOTE (66Stang @ Oct 27 2008, 01:57 PM) Given that the planet has too many people fighting for too little space...isn't a car (like the Prius) that produces celebacy a GOOD thing? Chris Hmmm...maybe.. kind of the reverse of the Routan. Though everyone I know that has a Prius is married with child/ren.
  24. Diesels rock. If GM were more forward-thinking, they would have some diesels in NA ASAP. I want to see a diesel CTS. A diesel Camaro (lots of torque, w/ a manual transmission). A diesel G8. etc..
  25. Heh-heh...I like the oldies, like alot of current cars, and am looking forward to the future... trying to be optimistic about the future (which goes against my natural tendency to be pessimistic or nihilistic).
