  1. Such is the nature of capitalism and business. In times of war, companies find ways to profit. Business 'ethics' is an oxymoron.
  2. I've been seeing a lot of new Silverados and a few Sierras lately..surprisingly quite a few around in the city. Was out for lunch today, and saw a really sharp black 4wd crew cab short bed Sierra 2500 with black custom wheels and tinted windows..really striking truck (and I'm not even a truck fan, but it turned my head). It looked very much like this one on ebay:
  3. I call BS. Actually, the school in Indonesia was a public school., That rumour was debunked almost 2 years ago. You Republicans need to get better at checking your facts. Of course, if you stick to Fox News, you won't get the facts. CNN Article
  4. Today at lunch, saw a '70s Datsun B210 GX hatchback, faded blue paint but solid. Parked behind it was a very clean '82 Celebrity 4dr, dark gray w/ gray interior. I think it was a repaint, no badging. No visible rust (the ones I remember seeing in NE Ohio were all rusted out (esp. the decklids and wheel arches) by the late '80s-early '90s). Saw 2 '08 CTSes---a black one w/ tinted windows and chrome wheels, and a dark gray one.
  5. One thing that amazes me is how solid and rattle/squeak free these cars are, even with high mileage and age ('91 300CE--114k miles, '84 500SEL--175k miles). They drive very tight.
  6. You could do much worse...it's a very solid car. Quiet, reasonably quick, and the straight-6 is bulletproof. My sister's red '91 is in very clean shape, needs a few small cosmetics (one piece of wood interior trim and the fabric a-pillar/window frame 'molding' needs replaced, as do the visors--I bought a pair of visors from ebay for her). It's always been garaged, so the black leather interior and dash are perfect, not the usual nuked AZ interior..(it's originally a Chicago car, according to the car fax she did before she bought it 5 years ago). She bought it to replace a '91 Acura Legend coupe that was still in nice shape when she sold it.
  7. Speaking of old Datsuns, I saw a '70s Datsun B-210 GX hatchback today..in decent shape w/ faded blue paint. There was a very clean gray '82 Celebrity parked behind it, a repaint I think (no badging). With the cooler fall weather here, I've been kickin' it old school--- enjoying driving to work in the 500SEL with the huge sunroof open... will drive the 300CE tommorow with all the windows down and the sunroof open..(no point in letting my sister's cars sit and let the batteries go dead, may as well drive them some).
  8. Ah, I forgot the CX-9 was in that review...kind of skimmed the article at about 11pm the other night, half asleep..
  9. With 4 bald recap bias-ply tires, an engine knock, and lots of bondo..
  10. Such it is with the two party system. And remember, the primary season was very compressed this year, so the field was winnowed to 2 very quickly.
  11. Hadn't heard that..good to hear. The Malibu seems like a really solid product. I did read a 5 or 6 vehicle comparison in C&D this month of 7-passenger CUVs--the Traverse was last, the Flex next to last, and of course, the Pilot and Highlander were 1 and 2. I think the Veracruz was the other model in the comparison, in the middle.
  12. I'd bet it's a GM press fleet car...I would think they would be in the hands of the magazines by now..
  13. Sweet..I didn't realise they were out yet..
  14. explosive
  15. I guess the Edge's comparable model at Chevy is the Equinox? But it's more expensive.. Ford has 2 parallel tracks now--- SUV--- Escape->Explorer->Expedition, and CUV-- Taurus X->Edge->Flex. Though the Taurus X and Flex seem closer to regular station wagons to me than CUVs.
  16. The old phrase 'voodoo economics' comes to mind.
  17. Yeah, or like I've seen in the Denver area---$400k mortgage, house worth $300k... ouch.
  18. I wonder if he made that policy up on the spot... seems like it could be very costly..
  19. An '04 needed a new transmission? Wow..the driver is pretty lucky..good to have all the airbags and solid structure.
  20. That is strange...not very very good ergonomically, I would think..like resting your hand on a model car while at the puter..
  21. We are already there...look at the success of appliances like the Corolla, Camry, Civic, Accord, etc. Function, reliability, quality, value for the money trumps emotional appeal for most buyers, I think.
  22. Mmmm....wooden bridge. I remember driving through a number of covered bridges in Washington County, PA about 15 years ago...like the color of yer Cobalt.
  23. I'm twittering and blogging on CNN's political board as it goes along.
  24. Montenapoleone (a stop on the Milan, Italy metro system)
  25. As seen on CNN: "McCain "has signaled to his supporters that he is going to be very aggressive in this debate," Obama campaign spokesman David Axelrod said en route from Asheville, North Carolina, to Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday. "He is going to take the gloves off. So I hope in the course of it, he has time to speak to the state of our economy, which is in deep trouble right now." Axelrod said Obama is "prepared for a very aggressive debate." Speaking of 'very aggressive' and gloves off, I'd love to see the debate devolve into an out-and-out fist fight, them throwing chairs and punches, etc...that could make for must see TV... (I wonder if presidential debates ever devolved into to fights back in the 1800s...)
