Toyota Prius - The Real Deal
Well, it's going to be out long before the Volt, so it's a moot point to compare them for a couple of years...

LIGHTER THREAD
Same thought I have with my Jeep..it's been paid for for over 3 years now, and my annual maintenance + repair cost is far less than a $500/mo car payment. My plan is pay 5 years, drive for 5 years w/o payment, then buy a new car... I've put about $2k in maintenance in it this year (new windshield, transfer case reseal, rear wheel bearings replaced, front discs/pads, 3 oil changes, trans. fluid change, axles greased) ...equivalent to 4 months of payments. About half that last year (which incl. $750 for a set of tires).

Lots of S-corps have 1 person... Common practice in the freelance/independent consulting world. Usually has tax advantages compared to an LLC.

Tonight's Debate 10/15/2008
Another poll that was interesting...something about 'likeability' on CNN..a poll of viewers of the debate....Obama was like 75% but McCain was 22%..

This is an automotive trend that should be outlawed.
Nothing wrong with that...it's a big car, and those 20s don't look outsized like a Donk w/ 24s would look...

Tonight's Debate 10/15/2008
On one forum, someone described his constant blinking as 'butterfly eyes'...the lighting must have been really bothering his eyes. All the smirking was annoying...

An S-corp is a business, albeit often a sole proprietorship. Big businesses have to pay their fair share...and many of them that make huge profits (Exxon, etc) often make those profits through illegal/corrupt means..(look at Enron, Worldcom, Broadcom, etc..) Interesting factoid--these corrupt big businesses usually have a Republican CEO at the helm...coincidence?

One tax change I'd like to see (no one has brought it up) is I think I should be able claim my dog as a dependent....breeders can claim their kids as dependents, why not those of us with furry four-legged 'children' ?

...or how about 'Rob the software engineer' instead of Joe the plumber.... in a normal programming job, 'Rob' has made from 95k (in a startup) to 125k (in a Fortune 500 company) over the last 8 years, alternating with periods of self-employment (1099, paying the 15 percent self employment tax) @ $75/hr and paying for his own health insurance, to corp-to-corp employment through his S-corp (billing from $75-100 hr, depending on the contract) to W2 employment through contracting firms for $65/hr w/ benefits. In all these scenarios, Obama's tax plan appears to be better for Rob the software engineer.

Ctrl-Alt-Del - McCain's campaign planning a major "Reboot"
We definitely need to beef up Homeland Security's role in NASA to protect us from alien invasions from across teh galaxy! Though I worry more about Cyberdyne and Skynet.

And the Repubs can't even pronounce 'nuclear'. Time for them to STFU.

Ctrl-Alt-Del - McCain's campaign planning a major "Reboot"
Hmm..so McCain is 'rebooting'.... I wonder if he's upgraded the OS from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 now..

Second Presidential Debate
This is one the better articles I've seen yet analyzing the economic and government policy angles of the current situation, from Fortune: Fortune article: How to Rebuild America

Ya Know...
I don't see that happening to myself in suburbia. I have heard of mountain lion attacks in the parks and trail areas...some places I've been for hikes and bike rides in the Denver area have had mountain lion sightings.. I couldn't imagine carrying a gun when out riding, though.

Ya Know...
The thing is, the reality context of today is not what it was in the 1700s...things that were relevant then aren't necessarily so today... times have changed, including the language, so the interpretation of the document has to evolve through time.

Ctrl-Alt-Del - McCain's campaign planning a major "Reboot"
I wonder if they will lauch new 'McCain 2.0' TV ads.. a New McCain for a New Era! He needs an image makeover...instead of an angry old white guy that should be out golfing, he needs to play up his military career and brand himself as a badazz action hero, in a Navy pilot uniform or something.. Anyhoo, did my by-mail voting over the weekend, looking forward to the last debate this week..should be entertaining.

Official Camaro pricing
A $31k starting point for the V8 isn't bad at all. A 300hp '08 Mustang GT equipped the way I wanted one was about $36k when I priced one out a few months ago online.

RR Silver Ghosts and AMC Spirits
While out at lunch today, I saw a very clean 1987-1990 Caprice 9C1 police cruiser, in full City of Phoenix Police Department trim, with steelies and DDs. Interesting to see a car that old still in use (had a uniformed cop driving it).

Nothing wrong with that..it would balance out the court...there are too many conservative judges on it now..
