Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Toyota
Good. I'm no hybrid hater, but this probably would have been a bad idea.- 13 replies

Does it handle better than a CTS V-sport or 535i? And how would a 420 hp SRX handle or ride compared to a SRT Cherokee or X5 or M-class. And what if they need 500 hp since that is what BMW and Mercedes offer? You can't go against those vehicles with a front wheel drive Chevy chassis. Let's get realistic about the target market for this vehicle please. The SRT Cherokee is dead-man walking... they are canceling it. Not exactly a market that Cadillac should be chasing. Also, the XTS V-Sport and CTS V-Sport are so close in handling ability on the track (and I've driven them both on an actual race track, back to back) that the performance difference is less than any driver errors that can happen. The XTS actually feels more confident because it has AWD, but you can "hoon" the CTS if you really want. The XTS has a weight disadvantage and the CTS a power advantage.... but all in all the differences are so minor that your objection to the powertrain layout is purely academic . BTW, the XTS V-Sport can send the majority of torque to the rear wheels when and if needed. In sport mode, it runs with most of the torque to the rear constantly. It also has Hi-Per strut to take away any torque steer. As approximately ZERO X5 or M-Class drivers take their vehicle to Track Day to compete, the difference in handling is going to be pretty low on the list of buyer's needs... right around "aggressive tire tread pattern" in terms of importance. But I'm sure the middle aged real estate agents of Palm Beach County Florida will be right there with you complaining about handling when the time comes.

One of the few times I strongly agree with SMK. I think the new C-Class is going to be a smash success and that the 3-series is in trouble. The people who buy the 3-series only for the handling will stick with it... but for the 90% of buyers in this market who just want a luxury car of that class, the C-class is the better option. It feels like a baby S-class inside. The 3-series doesn't feel like a baby 7-series... and it wouldn't matter anyway because the 7-series feels 20 years out of date.

Are these the most boring cars you can own?

I sleep very lightly.... tossing and turning most of the night... often in pain and stiffness. Work has really stressed me out with unusually high demands this year. By the end of this coming week, I will have completed my 60th flight and my 75th night in a hotel in just 2014. I do sleep a bit better, less pain, in hotel beds, but the work stress keeps me alert... and then there's the missing Albert part.
-
Do any of you have trouble with sleep? Sleep has been a nightmare for me lately. I have a mattress that is only about 18 months old, but I still wake up with a sore back and stiff neck. Stress from work and life leave my mind racing. The bed issue has gotten to the point to where we have moved into sleeping in the guest bedroom a few nights a week. What do you do to deal with sleep issues?
-
I think the opposite. The SRX should stay the same size interior, but move to Alpha platform to improve packaging and lose weight. Then this new crossover can be the MKX-X5-Mclass contender.

I actually liked the Kia K900 better. It feels more premium than the Hyundai. It would be the super-luxury car I would choose if I was trying to buy something on the company account that wouldn't upset the shareholders.

The only three who belong on that list are #1 and #3 and #4. We should do our own list.... start nominating cars! -
My favorite of the big sedans in exterior looks is the XJ, but the S-Class in top, non-AMG form is serenity on 4 wheels.... as it should be for a $60k price premium over the Jag

It's packaging too. Electric power steering can be done excellently, Ford pretty much has it nailed right now.

Cadillac also doesn't have to have the lineup that those manufacturers do. Cadillac is not producing taxi cabs and they will don't seem to be entering the knock-off luxury market (CLA, A3, 1-Series) any time soon. I'm glad that Cadillac isn't pursuing all the weird niche models that BMW and Benz are... do we really need a Cadillac competitor to the X4 and X6 just to move an additional 300 units a month? Imagine what BMW and Benz's profitability would be if they DIDN'T chase every niche.

what is unique about the north american market?
Drew Dowdell replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in The Lounge
What is unique about our market? Our willingness to put up with $h! selection for body styles. -
It still says Buick on the front, plus the A3 is way smaller than a Regal, hard to compare those two. Then a verano.
-
Yea but its a lot cheaper
-
The new 200 is just barely rolling down the production line yet. I wouldn't really look at the sales of that seriously for a good 5 months
-
Or just get a new Regal.

May 2014: American Honda Motor Co.

Mixed bag... lots of good increase, but lots of negative numbers too. At least they did better than VW.
