Digital Credit Union does 1.9% financing for up to 84 months on lease-buyout cars. Anyone can become a member for a $5 fee. A 7 year car loan?!?! And I thought the 6 year loans were sort of long. I can see the 6 year on a new car, as new cars cost a lot and people may keep it for 10 years. But 7 years on a used car seems insane, also at that rate. "Up to" It was just a suggestion from the finance side to make buying out her current car at an affordable monthly payment. And I was actually wrong.... it's 1.49% if you have it auto-draft from a checking account at DCU also. Edit: looking into this more: It's 1.49% for up to 60 month loans, 1.9% for 61 - 72 month loans, 3.49% for 73 - 84 month loans. All of them available for up to 120% of price of vehicle. which is still some of the best financing around. Ocn - What is the buyout on her current lease?

The Pacifica was a great concept hobbled by DCX-Typical execution. Given what FCA is doing with the Grand Cherokee and Durango right now (I'm driving a GC-Limited this week) I think they could finally get the execution part right. And think... they could really rock the crossover world with a Stow-n-go option in a crossover instead of a mini-van.

A $25k Colorado is going to be much better equipped than a $25k Silverado.... At $30k you'll have a nicely loaded Colorado while you're still in W/T V6 trim in the Silverado. I don't see much overlap here.

.... it would also be the rear-engine Corvette we've been hearing about for years decades.... if they built it like the Tesla, the entire powertrain would fit in the rear of the car, likely right into the space where the transaxle fits. The range of the Tesla Roadster was 100 miles... and that was 7 years ago and based on an old Lotus platform. It can run away from an Audi R8 like it was standing still. The Corvette has room for a lot more battery and a bigger "watermelon", so both range and performance would be even better.

I see SMK's point that it is unfair how the gas guzzler tax is applied... however I disagree with his implementation. I think the gas guzzler tax should be abolished entirely and the gas tax per gallon raised accordingly. That way the tax is charged at the pump instead of at the purchase of the car. If someone buys a new Lambo and sticks it in a garage for the next 30 years as a trophy, why charge a gas guzzler tax when it is in fact going to use less fuel during it's life than a Pruis that gets driven 300k miles before being sent to the crusher? In this (admittedly extreme) case, the Pruis is actually less "green" than the Lambo. No, charge the tax per gallon of fuel actually consumed... but that tax also needs to be raised since it hasn't been adjusted in nearly 25 years.

They are a fantastic drive. A recent Uber driver picked me up in one. Made it from my house to the airport entirely in EV mode... 27 miles.

Plan B is the now much more fuel efficient and excellent quality mid-size and smaller cars that are now available. Even a V6 Chrysler 300 can get over 30mpg on the highway consistently these days. It's the Cruze Diesel, the Sonic, the Focus 3-cylinder EB, the Volt, the Verano, the Chrysler 200. It's the Colorado and Canyon diesels, the Ram and Jeep GC Diesels. It's the F-150 2.7 EB..... the list goes on.

sure there is. The FR-S is a different kind of car than the tCelica would be. Keep in mind, there are still large swaths of the country that want something sporty but still want FWD for winter. My tC driving friend is like that... he really wants a BRZ, but the RWD makes him hesitate.

CR got smacked for their biases a few years back, rating the Prizm and Corolla differently, assuming good reliability on new Japanese models and then having to issue retractions. Rating Hummers as poor due to poor fuel economy. Missing major issues with certain favorite imports because they were under-reported by owners.... They changed their methods a bit since then.

They could simply rebadge the current tC as a Celica, drop the Scion brand, and be ahead financially by not spending the money on marketing a separate brand.

Every car is going to have bugs. The Karma was a fantastic design outside, but felt kit-kar like inside. I suppose they are focusing on the Karma because most of the work to get it on the road is done, however, I think they need to get the Atlantic out ASAP as that is a vehicle more people will be able to afford.

There's the Yaris, then there's this coming Mazda 2 re-badge. The Spark is more of an iQ competitor, so really, Toyota is just abandoning the segment. Spark - iQ Sonic - Yaris - Mazda2 Rebadge - Pruis C Cruze -Verano - Corolla - Aurius Hatchback - Pruis - Pruis V

Erm... not really. Back in 1988 the Camry had a 2.0 and a 2.5... today it has a 2.5 and a V6. The 1991 Cutlass Calais had 2.3, 2.4, and 2.5 liters. The 2.3 had 180 horsepower... which means it is slightly higher horsepower per liter than the current GM 2.5. (yes it gagged me to type about horsepower per liter) Yes, they are more powerful... but that's to be expected. The 5.7 liter V8s are more powerful than the 5.7s from 20 years ago also. The 5.0 in my Toronado weezes out 140hp on a good day... the 5.3 Ecotec produces 355hp on gas and 380 hp on E85. There are plenty more examples where these came from.

That 2014 Ram Tradesman is a good deal, but that's a new vehicle even. Not that I'm against it... it just seems odd that they are asking around the same money as some places are asking for used trucks with lots of miles on them.
