I dunno that the AWD trend is going to go away anytime soon. Just look at Subaru's sales growth over VW (roughly the same target market) for proof.

V2s aren't all that great from a noise-vibration standpoint. I don't think they would be acceptable in anything above a Spark or Sonic..... possibly the Volt as the onboard regenerator, thus, their application in the US would be quite limited. It could be used in countries with displacement taxes or that are big on microcars though. I believe the best way to mount it would be in a flat configuration with the drive shaft oriented vertically and the open end of the V pointed towards the front of the car. Then run the power to a longitudinal mounted FWD transmission via a 90 degree gear. Such a setup would be extremely compact and could even be rear mounted if you wanted to get fancy with either a city car or a Corvair like sports car.

Input on new tires for my '08 Pontiac G6
Drew Dowdell replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Product Questions and Reviews
Michelins all the way. I bought 80k mile Michelins from Costco and only got 33k out of them. Costco refunded me 59% of the original purchase price towards the purchase of some 90k mile tires. Sure they wore out fast, but really, expecting 80k miles out of a tire isn't very reasonable. I assume that Michelin only puts that warranty on there to keep people coming back to them for new tires. -
Unless you're looking at a completely different transmission mounting from current, the V4s and V2s are non-starters for FWD vehicles. Hell, for a V2, I would almost mount it on its side instead.

Mercedez Benz News Rumorpile: An Electric S-Class?
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
they could probably use just one of those motors.... they are already CTS-V quick in the Tesla. -
In the north east and midwest... after this winter.... ? I simply cannot buy a non-AWD/4WD vehicle again... that automatically removes the Camaro from my shopping list and I would expect the same for many people in my area who would otherwise like a Camaro. To put things in perspective, the Cadillac ATS 3.6 AWD, which is a 4-door is 3629. That would be an acceptable weight for an AWD Camaro. A 2.0T RWD ATS is 3373... which would be a very good weight for a new RWD Camaro.... The Camaro 3.6 Automatic 2LT is 3754, the SS is 3972

Moving to the Alpha platform will allow the camaro to drop a lot of weight.... more than would be added by awd. And " no one else is doing it" isn't a good enough reason to not offer it.
-
Well clearly not if they needed to make changes to your car after production...
-
Awd as an option would be good and would give the camaro a distinctive competitive advantage over the mustang, genesis coupe and any Supra that Toyota might offer.
-
perhaps that is a VW trait?

The Nissan IDx - Any Chance of a Production Model?
Drew Dowdell replied to Rvinyl.com's topic in Nissan
I like this Nissan and I think it would be good for GM to make a competitive model -
The best current GM can hope for is to blame it on Old GM and then fix the problem free of charge to anyone who wants the fix.

I'll have to see if I can find that picture I took of the Buick than handles like it's on rails....

Camaro as been outselling Mustang each month its been on the market in spite of its weight and interior disadvantages. Why would Chevy want to change from that when we've already seen that the next Mustang, while attractive, is not a huge deviation from the current formula? Camaro already spanks mustang in handling feel.... imagine what it will do when it sheds 800lbs.

I don't know what you're talking about... GMC has been extremely consistent with their design language

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Saves Weight, But Is it Enough?
Drew Dowdell replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Chevrolet
The key point is to not compare these to compact pickups but instead they are now mid-size... subject to the class size growth that all other segment have been subject to lately. Without getting out my measuring tape, these feel about as big as the last Dakotas. -
but I really like the new GC... a lot

That one doesn't existe anymore If not a Buick (and really... why not?) I'd do it as a Chevrolet. The problem is that the Astra's interior design is the same as the Verano's, so... They could try... but I think they need to work on the sport side of their image a bit more. Start with the Adam first. Still think Buick would be a better plce for the car... Re the Adam, IDK... Adam is more youthful than sporty (except for the new Adam S)... Something a little more outrageous like this Astra to get attention and a couple months later introduce the Astra GTC range as the Buick Astra, maybe?... I'm thinking about the target American market here.... I think about all the Mini-Coopers in Suburban McMansion America... and that could be an excellent Buick Adam market.
