I'm hoping that Subaru brings one to the MAMA meet on Wednesday. I didn't drive the Subi at IMPA because I wanted to try for a variety of cars and had limited time. I'm surprised I haven't had more reaction from this review, I believe it is the first Toyota product to actually be reviewed by a staff member here.

'57-58 drums were engineered differently. '57s had integral AL & steel liners, '59 & after had 100% steel liners and had improved construction for better heat transfer & dimensional stability, among other measures. In '59 testing, cars performed identically on the 10th hard consecutive brake test at Milford as they did on the first. But no; if they were correctly set up WRT shoes & hardware, you'd never drive a B-57 hard enough to get them to fade- they are still superior brakes. What's your experience? Long descents on Route 30 heading westbound and having Dominic standing on the brake pedal with both feet to try to bring the speed down. His are not power assist though.

When you buy the starter it comes with the solinoid and everything, it actually looks like a relatively straight forward install once the car is in the air. The problem so far has been locating one. At this point, I have to order it and it won't be here till after I come back next weekend anyway. :-/

Why? I bet they could be made to lock.

OpenNAV is free OSS. Route66 is another good one, also free for basic NAV. TelaNAV comes with the phone if you're on Sprint, but it appears to be a free download also.

So wait, there will be an M3 and M4... but the M4 will be a coupe that is larger and heavier than an M3 sedan? Also, BMW may be using the 6er v. 5er as an example on cost, but the 6er is more of a cut down 7-series coupe than a 5-series coupe equivalent.

As always, don't go by GM pictures. There is also something else brewing... there have been spy shots of a small Buick convertible running around the South West.

What I find so funny about this whole debacle is that Apple fans don't want to simply go out an get a different NAV app. My phone came with Google Maps, but I only ever use that for public transit directions (for which Google is unsurpassed), but for driving, I use either TeleNav or OpenNAV. GoogleMaps isn't the end all be all of navigation either, there are other options out there. Apple fans, you claim to have the largest App ecosystem... quit whining and go download something else.

what a bunk article... I could just as easily say that inexpensive cars are involved in accidents more frequently because: (pick one) 1. They are usually purchased by newer drivers 2. people care less about a $9k Hyundai than a $90k BMW and don't drive as carefully 3. they are driven by people at the lower incomes in area that are more dangerous to drivers This sentence in the article is also incorrect "The data shows that smaller cars were involved in accidents with the most frequency." No, the smaller cars were involved in accidents that resulted in a personal injury claim more often.

Interesting that Toyota is throwing in the towel on this so early. I wonder what problems they ran into. I've driven the Ford Focus EV and Fisker Karma. Electric propulsion certainly has its merits, it is the battery and generation technology that need to catch up. I wonder if Toyota's opinion is one of "well if we have to include an onboard generator anyway, might as well make it a hybrid and no one does that better than us". Which could be a valid position to have, but limits flexibility in the future.

numbers and facts don't actually matter to SMK, what is best is whatever SMK says is best.

No crank, one week old battery, 6 month old Alternator. Still no crank after sitting on the battery charger for 2 hours... not even a click. Headlights come on full brightness and everything operates at normal speed. .... not even a click from the starter... just nothing.

I"m with you here. I need a truck and I like the exterior look of them, but the interior just kills it for me. I'd much rather go with an older S-10.... at least I can graft a Bravada grill onto one of those....

The problem with packages is with the current dealership model, the only way we'll get away from huge option packages is to kill the franchise model dead, otherwise you'll just have more and more of the "largest chevy dealer in the area sells more trucks than anyone!!!" and they're all the same truck.

Well then it's probably a good thing GM canceled the UV8, they can be a leader instead of a follower.

I see Captivas so often (and had one as a rental already) that I didn't think they'd be worth mentioning. Is this a car you guys would want me to review if I get it again?

well... looks like I'm doing a starter replacement this weekend. She's been cranking slower and slower the past couple days and on the way home from from work really struggled to start. Didn't dare shut her off again till she was back in the garage... now... turn the key, and nothing, even after sitting on the charger for about 2 hours. Oh well, the starter went out on my first Toronado years ago probably around the same mileage.

I have a few of these in my attic somewhere...
