GM News: GM's Mark Reuss Talks About Cadillac and Chevrolet
aurora97 replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
It will be interesting to see who wins the fight for the alleged mid-engine monster; Corvette or Cadillac. Either way, the thing will be based on a 15 year old internal concept. Northstar 2.0 or no Northstar, Cadillac needs some exclusive v8 [block/architecture/etc] to power many of its cars.- 17 replies

GM News: GM's Mark Reuss Talks About Cadillac and Chevrolet
aurora97 replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
The coupe market is great on the high-end like BMW, Infiniti, Jaguar, and every muscle car incarnation. But it won't work at the low-end. It will be interesting to see if there is success with the ATS/ATS-V coupe to justify Cadillac making a sports car at the next price-point. But then again, how will it be different from a Corvette?- 17 replies

Cadillac News: Cadillac XTS To End in 2019, Along With Livery Business
aurora97 replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
Well, if Lincoln wants the business, then they have the new Continental concept. I agree with the consensus, the CT platform (or some other Cadillac) will take over this market.- 25 replies

It's a cross between an SS and an Impala with its styling. I'll take one.

There is a bit of Maserati in that design, too. And as you say, still distinctly American. Now all they need to do is launch an accompanying Mark X Coupe and all will be right with Lincoln again.

Cadillac News: Cadillac Releases Details on New V6 Engine Family
aurora97 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
The 1996 LT4 V8 had 330 hp. The 2016 3.6L V6 has 335 hp. One can only imagine the type of performance Cadillac can have with a 2nd generation Northstar V8. -
Yes and no. Cadillac is making every effort to distinguish itself from the rest of GM. New headquarters, new marketing, new racing, etc. But it is still part of GM production whether they like it or not. If there is too much similarity with options and drivetrain among the cars, then there will be an identity crisis. I am sure that there are plenty of nay-saying critics that are ready to dust-off the 30+ year old retort about the Cimarron and the Cavalier being the same car. I am tired of people cashing in on that chip for the sake thereof. The ATS coupe needs to be just better than the Camaro. The ATS-V with the Turbo v6 at 450 hp will have to be more than your garden variety Camaro V8 model. A 5.3L v8 with 410-420 hp will do just fine for performance with a lighter platform and better fuel economy. The Camaro will only borrow Corvette engines for the limited edition Camaro models so as not to cannibalize Corvette sales. The ATS and Camaro will both have 4 cylinder engines because that is the way of government fuel economy standards. In many ways, the 5.3L V8 is the 21st century version of the classic 327 V8 in displacement and performance. Putting it in a production car as opposed to a heavy full-size pick-up will make this thing the best bang for one's buck. That will keep the Camaro in line with the "old school" buyer for the muscle car while the tarted-up Turbo V6 will cater to the upscale crowd that Cadillac wants.

I am going to make a bold prediction. The L83 EcoTec3 5.3 L V8 will be used in some fashion with 400+ horsepower as the engine for the SS model. That would leave the LT1/LT4 available for limited edition ZL1/Z28 models and the 5.3L will keep the power and mileage up for everyone else. Also, since this will be built on the same platform as the ATS, there needs to be some different "flavor" for the Camaro for people to taste. Otherwise, the Caddy and the Camaro are indistinguishable for consumers.

Dodge News: Dodge Puts Hellcat Orders On A Temporary Hold
aurora97 replied to William Maley's topic in Dodge
FCA oversold these cars from the moment they announced the existence of the Hellcat engine and now they can't deliver until August? What did they expect to have happen? People buy a Dart that day visiting the dealer rather than wait a month on a Hellcat to show up? Way to manage expectations.- 6 replies

aurora97 replied to William Maley's topic in Jaguar
SRT, IPL (kinda), Type-R SVO was also used at Ford before, no? Yes - Most famously on the Mustang SVO in the mid-eighties. GXP, SS, SVT, GS, and OSV, keep it on the DL.- 6 replies

GM never has intended to sell the car in quantities, all the magazines have confirmed it. It wants to give the perception that "we tried" but customers ran away from it. Therein lies the problem: GM has never marketed the SS at all. Few people know about it, so the SS does not sell at all. This is quite sad, especially given that gas is south of $2.50/gallon these days. If GM would market the SS at least as hard as the new Colorado, they might actually sell some SS models. There is an esteemed member here who claims that GM build it but people aren't buying it. May be the GM middle manager whose d(b)ong he was smoking got him high on that thought. Well such was the case and GM was really trying the car with 6-speed would have been on NAIAS floor. But there were 2 Cruzes and Impalas but no SS. NONE! That doesn't give perception of giving people what they want, does it? The car is reincarnation of E39 M5 and a step forward of the G8. It deserves a good send off and letting people know its talents. It is a rare gem in GM's vanilla. +1 !! If I had the means, I would buy this car in a heartbeat (pun intended). As awesome as the Charger Hellcat and new CTS-V are, neither come with a manual transmission. +2

It would be nice to think that GM is not only throwing a frickin' bone to the SS but also to Holden. Hopefully both the SS (in some form) and Holden will survive in the near future.

Perhaps it is meant to be a GM performance parts package to encourage the purchase of the SS vehicles that remain un-sold.

Agreed, this is the perfect place to use that Twin Turbo V6 in a new Syclone Pickup Truck. But then also take the Terrain and build a New Typhoon! YES!

Buick News: Back On the Auction Block: Buick Blackhawk Concept

I guess bringing back the 455 big block would be pushing it. One can only dream.
