  1. I have to agree with you there. I have also noticed a different feel to driving one of those classics. I love driving my Vette but driving either the 71 Camaro or the 72 Skylark just feels different. I don't know if it is just the idea of cruising in a classic car or if the ride is that much different. Either way, I love driving my classics and feel more like cruising and relaxing in them. As for posting, I have always been on again/off again with posting, depending on how I feel, what work has been like, or whatever. I also try to stay out of the hard core disagreements (to much to deal with without turning my online time into an arguement). I have to agree that GM has much further to go, and if they are smart they will be constantly moving the target to ensure they are never again satisfied with 'good enough,' but sometimes it seems like some people are never going to appreciate how far they've come. Even so, I appreciate that it is almost always civil here.
  2. When I planned my fuel costs for the drive from Yelm to Reno, I calculated it at $5.00 a gallon. Hopefully, I don't have to recalculate it.

    Nick!

A belated happy birthday to you. Hope you enjoyed your 21st and are able to continue enjoying being 21 today. Watch out for those hangovers.

    Me want

I took into account the local market and values. The SS emblems would go very quickly. If I want to make an 'SS' clone, I will go all the way. I am going to keep watching and looking. I want to find an early C3 Vette (68-72) or a 67/68 Camaro. I have plenty of time and have plenty of toys to play around with for now. No rush.

Update. I showed the ad to Tammy and she was all for going to check it out. Well, the pics online are the best that this 68 looks. They gave it a new paint job all right, unfortunately, they didn't do all of the work that should be done first. The interior is trashed, ripped seats and door panels, old faded carpet (no biggie) The pax door has bad cancer, real bad. So much that a new door would be needed. The area near the hinges was just sad to see. The trunk has a bunch of small holes. (Thats not a problem either, some Por-15 and a carpet would make me happy) Their is cancer on the drivers side under the back seat. (found it when I crawled under the car) The windshield cowl needs to be replaced, badly painted, rusty and holes drilled into it. The fenders were painted with the hood closed so you can see the old color when you open the hood. The tranny looks like it has a rear seal leak. The engine did look good and sound good. It has a new exhaust system, except for old, rusted headers. The glove box heads an insert and a locking mechanism. NONE of the door or the trunk locks matched. All in all, I was ready to walk away. I can find better deal, even spending more money on a nicer car would be worth it. But, they wanted an offer. They looked upset when Tammy told them $13,000 tops. They dealer said he had $18,000 into the car and was selling it at a loss. RIGHT. Oh well, there are others out there. I will say that if I find an early 68, you know with a build date actually in Nov 67, I would really find it hard to walk away.
  6. Sorry to hear about this you two. It seems like there is almost always some idiot out there whose sole mission in life is to ruin other peoples stuff. And they never seem to learn or care.
  7. Chiropractor still remains an option. But, I'll tell you what, I took one of those melatonin Friday night and had what had to be one of the forst good nights sleeps in a LONG time. Saturday was close to the same. Unfortunately, last night I was back at work and tired as all hell all night long. I already had to take Wed and Thurs nights off due to my son getting braces (family having appointments during the day when you work nights really sucks). I also have Tues night off as since I work a 5/4/9 schedule. So, I just may take tonight off as well and use all of this time to learn how much the melatonin afftects me and make adjustments. Then next week I can get back on a good work/sleep schedule. The doc seemed really worried that I only sleep 2-3 hours at a time and have been doing this for almost 8 years. Its hard to sleep during the day. While I was in the massage therapy, the guy 'abusing' me talked about the chiropracter that he works with. After about 2 months of sessions he did tell me not to expect too much from a chiropracter, simply because of how messed up everything seems to be. I think what everyone is worried about is how the nerve bundles are affected. With them being so pinched right now, any slip up could cause more damage. The nerve meds seems to be cutting the trick for the most part. Both the doc and I figure if we can get the neck stretched out and stay that way, the tension headaches should ease and mostly take the migraines away. I am really glad I went with this doctor. She knows her stuff and is really trying to help long term. The doctor I had after my car accident just gave up on me and told me I would be in pain for the rest of my life.

I just found this. Does anyone think I could get Tammy to agree with getting it?? 68 Camaro It would go so nice with my 71 RS/Z28 and the Skylark. I just need a much bigger garage.
  10. No offense but speak for yourself. I personally think the C6 is beautiful and no major changes are needed to keep the sales going. Just the improvements in the interior have people that I have talked to loving the C6.
  11. Agreed. I've always been a Mariner's fan. Been one even when things have been very bleak.
  12. Agreed. I always enjoyed reading those anti-utopia stories. Made the really think. Asimov, though had to be one of the best writers in the history of mankind. I picked up one of his nonfiction books, thinking it was fiction and found the entire thing interesting. Been a major fan ever since.
  13. Went to the doctor today, again. Man, this is getting annoying. Some background. Last year, Tammy literally drug me into the doctor's office because I was in real bad shape. Turns out it was a good thing, I had pneumonia, was getting over the flu, and was developing a bad case of sinusitis. Anyway, as I was getting over that, the doctor noticed I was rubbing my hands. Oops. I wound up finally telling a medical professional that I was having shooting pains from my neck down both arms and through my hands and fingers. No way to predict when they would happen. It hurts like hell. Tests, of course followed. No carpel tunnel (thank God), minor arthritus (not a real explanation), oops, bulging discs in my neck were (are) pinching the nerve bundles coming from my spinal cord. Well, that explains a lot. So that doctor put me on phyiscal therapy, muscle relaxers, and pain meds (vicadin). Its been a year now, my old doctor moved back to Minnesota and I have a new one. Been through PT, massage, stretches, etc. Have different meds (which mostly help) but its all still there. Then I showed up at the doctor's office with a migraine (which she suspected I was having, from my description). Got a shot and some pretty useful migraine meds, which cost me $25 for 9 pills (ouch). Forward to today. Went back in and guess what, another migraine. The shot works well, I just hate needles and dropping my pants to her (pretty cute) nurse is hard to get used to. More pills (I am going to start rattling when I walk), and now that she knows for sure that my sleep is completely messed up, she wants me to try some melatonin. For the record, I hate pills and any other form of drugs. I really wish I could get completely away from them. Unfortunately, the heat and ice packs, stretches, etc just aren't cutting it. Sorry if this seems like whining, I just wanted to get it off my chest. Tammy is of course concerned and I really want to be able to be a good, active dad and husband. Too bad just typing this is enough to set off my hands. I'd love to find a way for this to all just go away. I sometimes worry if I can continue with what I do for a living.
  14. It was very disturbing. Shows what people will accept as part of a society. I read it way back in the mid 80s and still remember it very well.
  15. Some will help pay for my son's braces and most of the rest gets set aside for my trip to Reno for Hot August Nights.

    CHEVY

Watched it, and thanks for bringing this to our attention, Reg
  17. Nope, and I've been married going on 15 years. I have had offers but been able to deflect the woman. Two different coworkers have approched me, and one was pretty blatant. Thankfully, I found a way to decline tactfully. I would have hated to see how it could have been at work if I was blunt. No matter what anyone else says or thinks, I love Tammy and I have decided to commit to her and our love for the rest of my life. And that means I will not do anything that I know would hurt her or make her think I love her any less. Its not that hard for me, and yes, I still have opportunities, especially when I go TDY. But, I promised to love, honor, and cherish Tammy back in '93 and I still make her that promis everyday. In fact, I am more in love with her than the day we met, the day we got married, or even the days of the birth of our children (although both of those days hold such joy and love for me). I cannot judge or make decisions for anyone else. My own life is too much work for me to take on the role of judge for anyone. But, as for me, I have my love, and I am happy with us.
  18. Yeah, well the price on them kind of makes me hesitate as well. I am not sure how this experiment would work out and don't want to shell out too much. I have sat a few bikes so far and the position of most standard and cruisers seems pretty comfortable. The 07 Shadow Aero I checked out felt good and so did the 86 Rebel 450. There's a 90 Suzuki VX800 that has faded paint that Tammy wants me to check out. Oh, I get between 27 and 30 MPG in my 00 Vette, which is my daily driver. So, unless I can get much better, it really isn't worth it for me. No matter what I think I will take the beginning rider's course. It costs $250 but Washignton state picks up half the cost for those with a Washington driver's license and anyone in the military. The course will allow me to get a motorcycle cert on my license without any other tests so that could be worthwhile.

    Sweetness!

Sweet. Now that's a family car I could own.
  20. And if you can't celebrate appropriately, do it inappropriately, but have fun on your birthday. And here's to many more to come.
  21. Didn't want to steal GMPartsGirl's thread so I figured I would start a new thread to discuss this. My better half wants me to get a motorcycle to drive back and forth to work on decent days. Now, understand that I have never ridden a motorcycle in my life and am now 40. Tammy's reasoning is that it will save on gas money. This is true but it would take a while to save enough to pay off the bike in the first place. I would be looking at a used motorcycle, one without too much power, since I am a novice. My brother (who does ride) suggests that I limit it to about 500cc and buy something that I wouldn't be too upset if I laid it down. I have seen a couple that would possibly work for me, although one is a 800cc, still probably not too much to start with. BTW, no suggestions of sport bikes, I have some real problems with my back, neck, arms and hands, so sitting one a sport bike would be an absolute killer. Just as a note, I have a couple of bulging disks in my neck that are pinching the nerve bundles going down to my arms. It causes a lot of sharp shooting pains in my arms and hands and is the probable cause of my migraines. As for the back, I haven't worked up the nerve to tell my doctor about everything with my back. (yeah, I know that's pretty stupid) Anyway, I wanted to hear opinions and options from you all here.

    Should I?

Is there actually a question in there? If so, do you want someone to slap you in back of the head to get those braincells working?
  23. I'm so glad I never picked up that habit. My brother has repeated tried to quit but something always happens to stress him out and he starts again. My mom has bad asthma which is one of the reasons I stayed away from smoking. Another was the cost. I do believe that smokers have been treated like pariahs in the last couple of decades. And to me its pure BS. Look we all have our bad habits and some are worse than others. Most smokers know the effects of what they do, and many are very willing to be considerate. Treating someone who smokes like a criminal just creates barriers. Everyone who is considering to try or now trying to quit, you have my admiration. Its tough. Breaking any habit or addiction is. As for those who aren't quitting, as long as you don't blow it in my face, we're cool.
  24. Its amazing how the news can always find the few people who would really rather your area NOT be represented by. I swear, they must drive around for hours looking for these people, either that or hold auditions.
  25. Well, it sucks that the company you were working for went belly up but hey, it looks like opportunity knocked at about the right time for you. Good luck with making this all work out for you.
