The PT was meant to be a Plymouth. Stuttgart made the ultimate decision in pulling the plug in my opinion. That's why with the latest PT (facelifted) went through a "de-Plymouthization". Is it too late to bring back Oldsmobile after four years? five? or ten? I'm sure there would be buyers. Some people have a thing called brand loyalty. And, finally, let's not forget the point of some of these "stripped" cars... to get first time (or new to company) buyers that can then move up in the company. Like smart to Mercedes-Benz. Or Chevrolet to Pontiac to Olds to Buick to Cadillac. Chrysler needs a value priced entry brand to create better brand distinction and attract thrifty buyers. Would you like some pancakes with that?

How can they both look so different, yet both so good? Sure the Cadillac is quite the masterpiece to behold, but it is a brand GM is boosting in order to get it back in rankings with Mercedes-Benz and Audi. Personally, I'd like one of each. Indeed. I fail to see any benefit of this potential merger/alliance/takeover, whatever you want to call it. GM is decreasing the amount of time it takes to get product to market, and the new product seems vastly improved over the old (Cavalier vs. Cobalt, LeSabre vs. Lucerne, etc). With quality ratings besting some of those from the vaunted Japanese brands of Honda and Toyota, improved and inspired designs, I see GM firmly on the road to recovery. All that's left to do is eliminate health care costs (or decrease them) and benefits. I do not see why a company should support retired employees that are no longer useful to the company... and wait for Jerk... sorry, Kerkorian to wither away.

Chryslers previous generation minivans weren't ugly. They were quite attractive, really. Thank you.

Basically all Acuras are tarted up Hondas. RSX=Civic TSX=Euro Accord TL= Accord RL= Japanese Legend MDX=Pilot Although I despise Toyota, at least their rear-drive Lexus products are now more distinct from garden variety Toyotas. The new IS doesn't have a counterpart now, as it used to be the Altezza, does it?

Personally, I feel excessive safety gear and pedestrian safety is ridiculous. 1) If an accident is bad enough, someone will die regardless. 2) Companies should have some sort of legal protection to protect them from the idiocy of stupid and/or inexperienced drivers that result in the injury/death of themselves or passengers. Enough is enough. 3) If you are hit by a car, you're going to break something, be maimed, or killed regardless of any "advanced" hood design or replaced "hard" mechanicals.

And, if Chrysler doesn't get around to producing a 3-Door or sedan of the Cailber, I guess I might as well go for its technical platform-mate- the new Mitsubishi Lancer. The new Lancer looks to have a smoother design that I prefer, and if I'm right, since both companies spent money to produce this architecture, why not get it? Sure, the profits go to Japan, but love does not make me blind. For instance, if Kia built a hot little coupe with a decent interior, I would take that any day over a Caliber.

Hmm, the government should allow imorts of more vehicles, they are still clean, catylized cars, still safe, and in many cases, small Euro vehicles are highly efficient. So much for "free market" and "global economy", hehe.

There are G5's at one of the Pontiac places in Ft Wayne, Indiana. The rear looks nice, as it seems distinct from from Cobalt Coupe or Sedan, but the interior, front fascia need a total redesign to make it more Pontiac, less tarted oer Chevrolet in appearance.

Glad I wasn't alone there, because I thought they were actually talking about the slide-in campers that fit in the truck beds.

On the same page, one of those actual slide in campers would be darn near impossible to fit in either one of those anyway.

Okay, I have to say something. It's driving me insane. I have sat in three different Cobalts, ranging from LS to LT to SS. I have made an observation, and my opinion was seconded by a friend of mine. What on God's green earth is wrong with the seats?? It feels like my legs dangle off with no support at all, and I'm not close to 6 ft. tall. My friend Jess is shorter than me, and she said those seats were awful too. Not the whole seat is bad, just the bottom cushion, it's like it's not long enough or something. Want to know what seats were comfortable to me AND seemed better at first tush cush? Those of: Kia Rio LX Chrysler PT Cruiser Dodge Neon Plymouth Breeze (and that's with my seat as low as it will go too) Is it just me? Are my friend and I crazy? I mean, I'm a skinny thing, and she's sort of portly. No one else seems to have noticed this to my knowledge, and I just want to see what everyone else thinks on the Cobalt seats. I'm sure the Recaro's of the SS Supercharged would be better, as they felt great in a Saturn ION Redline.

Finally. I am very glad that GM has the faith in their product that they do not require discounting, that they are worth the price on the window. Although details need ironed out in several cars, new-age GM has some great products.

I noticed this too. I drove a burgundy 2001 Stratus SE for a day while my Breeze was in for maintenance, and the dash had the padded material. However, the 2006 models on the lot had all hard interior plastics. Strange. If I had a car, and were updating it, I'd try to keep improving it as time went on.

Performance trucks... who cares. They're truly pointless. A truck is meant to haul items, trailers, and other things. Hauling ass shouldn't be one of them. That's why one should buy a Corvette, CTS-V, 300C SRT-8, or something of the likes. The last two are still roomy, and can carry probably as many (possible minus one) people as these trucks.

Acura seems sort of soulless as a whole. I only find the TSX and TL to be attractive in the sense that I would like to be seen in. The RSX has an interior that almost looks like it was plucked out of the 1980's or something. A rumoured TSX coupe with the next generation would be my choice.

Like many complaints in driving cars, this one may be solved with a manual transmission.

Well, then you could technically laugh. GM has something extremely similar to this (although better... I believe Car & Driver called it a smarter SMART) waiting in the wings should the need to produce it arise. It's called the Opel Trixx.

I don't feel that smart cars are irrelevant. The U.S. regulations are majorly flawed in that they only address emissions and not consumption as well- as is in Europe. It complete and utter lunacy that is long as something can pass regulation ULEV Bin 3 Tier 2 or what-not, it's okay to sell here... who cares if it only gets 3 miles/gallon? U.S. safety regulations should be more like those of Europe, and Europe should be more like us in regarding pedestrian saftey... who cares? If you get hit by a car for walking out in front of it, then you should (and will) be hurt regardless. It would have been nice if behemoth SUV's could have been prohibited. Fuel efficient vehicles will become more and more popular as fuel prices continue to rise. For those who don't want the idiosyncracies of a hybrid powerplant, a conventional diesel/small petrol engine is definitely okay.

I think the DTS is very nice. It's interior materials are amazing... But- The soft, velvet/cloth/felt-like (whatever) material that covers the B- and C-pillars felt like it wasn't really attached to anything, just loose, and brarely hanging on. I was dismayed by this aspect of the car.
