Rumorpile: Is The Next Fiat For The US This Crossover?

    William Maley

    January 2, 2011

If there is one thing Fiat needs in the US besides sales is another model. And if a report from Inside Line is to be believed, we could be seeing a new model next year.

Inside Line reports that Fiat is readying a new small crossover code-named Ellezero. Ellezero will be based on Fiat's SUSW (Small U.S. Wide) platform, which also will underpin a new compact Jeep crossover. Design will borrow from the 500 with it's rounded look. Power will come from the 1.4L engine found in the 500.

The new crossover will make it's debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Fiat needs to sell the Bravo here if it really wants to see decent sales numbers.

Let Dodge offer traditional coupes and sedans and have Fiat offer hatches. Win/win situation, espeically if more Chrysler dealerships are allowed to pick up Fiat.

"Power will come from the 1.4L engine found in the 500."

It will be bigger & wider than the 500

    The 500 doesn't sell.

The roof on the green thingy in the illustration appears to be from a current production model..sure looks familiar

It's from none other than the Mini Countryman.

So if this article is to be believed, Fiat wants to be an Italian Mini for the North American market. Ohhhhkayyyyy then ...

FIAT = Failure In America Twice!!!

Fiat had garbage product the first time, they continue to think they can offer the same crap in Europe here. People who have bought the 500 have unloaded them as they do not hold up and the dealership in Kirkland WA has a ton of auto's both new and used 500 on the lot.

Fiat has no Idea what americans want and they clearly have not seemed to do any market research.

67impss, running or just overseaing chryCo's is differant than what the FIAT division is doing. Chry is in far better touch with America today than Fiat. I stand by my comment that they are out of touch with what America wants in regards to their Fiat division. History of auto magazines have clearly stated what they feel should be brought to America and Fiat sends what most people are not interested in. Stopping by the Kirkland Fiat dealership, it was amazing to see the sales people actually ask me if I wanted to test drive a Jeep, Chrysler or Dodge product even though they came out of the Fiat show room.

At least here in the Pacific NW home of the green tree huggers, FIAT does not go over very well with the buyers.

    • That is certainly your opinion but I stand by it. That thing is hideous and just looking at the profile of the two, the $650K Ferrari looks way too similar to a $40K Toyota. That is not a Ferrari. That is a $650K bar of soap with wheels.    You are right about the rest of it though. Just a whole lot of “meh” for that kind of coin.  If it had a different logo attached to it, then it might look okay. However, if no one told us this was a Ferrari, we would never have guessed it was. That is my point here. Nothing about it says Ferrari and it looks very stale and boring for the price point.
    • Oh that is just plain silly that they'd have the same vehicle but some trims do and do not have CarPlay. I'm also in the same boat in not wanting a base model of pretty much anything. I dig the Lyriq (even though the name is horrible), but they're too pricey around me still. The cheaper ones are 40-42k and I just can't justify spending that.
    • The front 2/3 of the car are attractive enough.  I don't know much else about it.
    • I would not get a Super.  Find one with the normally aspirated 3800 V6.  Toward its final year, they may have gone to a Chevy sourced 3900 or 3500 V6.  I guess those are ok if lower mileage, but the Buick 3800 V6 tends to be stellar. I just saw this or would have responded earlier.
    • @crvette_guy - I just thought of one if you really wanted a northstar and a larger sedan. You could get the final generation of Cadilac STS.  The first gen CTS-V would work also, but they're harder to find cheap while also being in good shape.  Still, the first-gen CTS-V is just a standard GM 5.7 or 6.0 liter and dead reliable. You can get it with a manual also.  It might be worth spending a little more to go this route instead of going with a cheaper Northstar powered car in the long run.
