Kia EV6 Revealed ahead of the World's Premiere for their first BEV!

Kia has revealed their EV6 first dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) ahead of the world premier this month.

Kia Corporation revealed ahead of their planned world premiere the EV6. This is Kia's first dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) influenced by an all new Design philosophy, embracing Kia's shifting focus to global electrification.

Kia announced that the EV6 was their first BEV to embrace the following:

    • 'Opposites United' is Kia's design philosophy for the Future vehicles
    • Philosophy formed of five pillars: Bold for Nature, Joy for Reason, Power to Progress, Technology for Life, and Tension for Serenity
    • EV6 exterior design characterized by High-tech details
    • Modern and spacious interior design made possible by Kia's first dedicated EV platform (E-GMP)

The EV6 strikes strong in the companies new Opposites United taking inspiration from nature and humanity. The visual identity evoking positive forces with natural energy and contracting combinations of sharp stylistic elements and sculptural shapes. This distinctive crossover inspired BEV is a showcase of human-centered, progressive design and electrification.

Welcome to the Future of Kia

Power to Progress is the tag that Kia has for the EV6 as this is a global collaborative effort between Namyang Korea, Frankfurt Germany and Irvine California USA design studios.

    Quote:

At the front, characteristic daytime running lights display a sleek, modern appearance. They form part of the car’s ‘Digital Tiger Face’, a design progression evoking the spirit of Kia’s ‘Tiger Nose Grille’ for the electrified era. The design of the lamps also includes a ‘sequential’ dynamic light pattern. Below this, a low air intake visually widens the front of the car, accentuating its high-tech image. Part of the optimization of air flow from the front, the air is channeled through and under the car’s flat floor for optimum aerodynamics.

The side profile displays a crossover-inspired design aesthetic, which is modern, sleek and aerodynamic. This contrasts with sharp lines and high-tech details to create a sense of tension in the design. A swept-back windshield provides dynamism and purpose, while bold rear haunches add volume. A character line runs along the bottom of the doors curving upwards towards the rear wheel arches, visually elongating the profile of the car.

The interior design is to profile an innovative use of space, creating a unique spatial and driving experience.

    QUOTE:

One of the most striking elements of the new interior is a seamless high-tech curved high-definition audio visual and navigation (AVN) screen. The simple form language of the wide curved screen and the slim dashboard give the space an open feel. Extending from the steering wheel across to the center of the car, it displays an instrument cluster in front of the driver, and infotainment and navigation above the center console. The width of the screen creates an immersive experience for the driver, while a minimal number of physical buttons offer an uncluttered and soothing driving experience.

Underneath the AVN screen, passengers control HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) settings by using haptic ‘buttons’, while below this panel, the dashboard slopes away towards the front of the car, creating a sense of space and openness for the front-seat passengers.

The seats are slim, lightweight and contemporary, and clad in modern, visually interesting and robust fabrics created using recycled plastics, which create yet greater openness in the cabin.

To quote Senior Vice President and Head of Global Design Center for Kia Karim Habib:

“We want our products to deliver an instinctive and natural experience that improves the daily lives of our customers. Our aim is to design the physical experience of our brand and to create original, inventive, and exciting electric vehicles. The ideas of our designers and the purpose of the brand are becoming more connected than ever, with our customers at the center of what we do and influencing every decision that we make,” added Karim Habib.

    UPDATE per Green Car Reports

2022 Kia EV6: With Tesla Model Y-beating acceleration and charging, the Stinger of EVs (greencarreports.com)

Per the Reveal Tuesday from South Korea covered by Green Car Reports, Global Brand Boss Artur Martins states the Kia EV6 is the Stinger equal of their EV line. Just like the Kia Stinger that flaunts it Gasoline power, the Kia EV6 will do the same.

Kia has announced that the EV6 will have quicker acceleration times for it's top EV6 trim than the Ford Mach-E GT Performance Edition or Tesla Model Y Performance and will charge faster than either of those two.

EV6 is a 5 seat hatchback with a wheelbase of 114 inches and will come in RWD or AWD for all trims.

The differences end there for the Stinger and EV6 as the EV6 is built on the E-GMP modular electric platform which is about short hood and long cabin length. The EV6 is 2.3 inches longer than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 that was revealed in February, but has a wheelbase that is 3.9 inches shorter than the Ioniq 5.

    EV 6 details:

    • Six different variants
    • 58 kWh or 77.4 kWh battery pack
    • RWD or AWD choice
    • 167 hp / 258 lb-ft of torque, RWD with 58 kWh battery pack as entry level
    • 321 hp / 446 lb-ft of torque, AWD with 77.4 kWh battery pack entry level
    • 577 hp / 546 lb-ft of torque, 0-62mph 3.5 seconds with 77.4 kWh battery pack for top performance level.
    • Charging from 10% to 80% battery capacity in 18 min via 800V fast charging
    • Estimated 317 miles of battery pack range on par with Tesla Model Y 303 miles of range
    • V2L or Vehicle to Load output up to 3.6 kW to power large tools, appliances or charge another EV to get it going
    • Compatible for home use, just like the F-150 Hybrid was used in Texas to power homes

While this is a Hatchback, it is cross-over inspired. Dash will have two 12 inch displays side by side. Interior is sustainable as it uses 111 recycled plastic water bottles for the interior fabrics. 14 speaker surround sound.

It’s cool, but it’s just another super car EV. I’, afraid to see the price. If you tell me it starts at 25,000, I would be impressed! problem at the moment is that all we see the expensive stuff, not what the average Joe is going to drive. It is cool looking though....

Cool race.  To be fair, I bet all of these cars will eat EV6 alive on a track.  Straight line acceleration is EVs biggest trick.  Even base model 3 goes 0-60 in 5sec and performance model in 3.5sec.

And as @daves87rs mentioned will be interesting to see the price. I bet this one will be close to at least 80-100k.

@daves87rs @ykX Seems pricing is starting to show up online based on interviews. Standard base price for the EV6 seems to be $56,344 according to this story: Kia EV6 Priced From £40,895 In The UK, Deliveries Start This Fall | Carscoops

Yet then we have these stories which are based on the US market with a base RWD EV6 starting at $40,000 2022 Kia EV6 Prices, Reviews, and Pictures | Edmunds

Tom's Guide says estimates is starting at $40,000 but no firm prices, but they also quote the UK numbers which have been released. Kia EV6 2022: Release date, price, range, interior and more | Tom's Guide

    QUOTE:

However, as a rough guide in the UK the EV6 is listed at £40,895 ($56,142 based on a straight currency conversion); the EV6 GT-Line is £43,896 ($60,262); and the GT is £58,295 ($80,027).

Seems to be right.  Model X starts from $80k too but performance version that can do 0-60 in about 2.5sec is $100k. So this might be as fast or almost as fast but slightly cheaper than Tesla.  Ford Mach E GT will be slower but it will cost around $60k.

    • 20250903_172749.heic Greetings from a few days ago ... a few minutes after clearing the Verrazzano Br. and now out of the harbor
    • Yup. Disgusting!!!  But...no different than anything else involving big money and profits and greed in North American politics and economics.  Yes. Even in Canada. Although the Molson Center, now Bell Center, where the Montreal Canadiens play hockey was entirely funded by private monies.  The Molson center now the Bell center, was funded ENTIRELY by the Molson family. The beer company who owns the Montreal Canadiens. Who have owned the Montreal Canadiens for a very long time on two occasions.   Including all the training faculties for the Montreal Canadiens.  The Montreal Expos, if they were to come back, WILL be funded by private monies. The purchase AND the construction of a baseball field.  Contrary to what news is out there saying otherwise. The city of Montreal and the Province of Quebec, all political leaders that have been elected to those positions have ALL stated that NO public monies will be given for a possible return of an MLB franchise in Montreal.  And ALL Montrealers all agree. And the possible ownership groups and owners involved for a possible return of an MLB team all agree to NOT accept public funds.  But...they do require the government to allow the return of an MLB team.  Example.  Allow government owned land to be bought or leased or even given for a stadium to be built. The city of Montreal to allow pubic transportation to be available and have access points at the stadium etc...  One reason why the Expos left Montreal in the first place was BECAUSE the government of Quebec REFUSED to bail out the Montreal Expos and allow public funds to be used for a new stadium downtown.   Good decision in my opinion.  But that does not mean that Montreal lost some tourist dollars because the Expos were not in town anymore. But that does not mean that billionaires should be asking for tax payer money to fund their projects either.  That just means at the very least, billionaire  sport team projects should be a PARTNERSHIP  between the city/state/province, the citizens of the area and the ownership groups.   But in MOST cases, I agree, it does not exist.  Greed...a terrible thing.  Awesome that your son went as far as he did!!!    The Olympics are the WORST for what we are talking about.  Pure greed.  And yes, its not JUST an American thing. Its a GLOBAL thing.  But pro sport teams are more prevalent in the US with billionaire values of pro sports teams in MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL, MLS, girls teams in hockey and basketball, university and college football, baseball, basketball and now even hockey.  In Europe, while soccer leagues and teams have just as much worth as American/Canadian ones, there is simply not as many pro sport leagues and teams in Europe. But it happens there too.
    • The sales tax is applied to all businesses in Washington state excluding grocery stores. As such, no matter if you support or not the pro teams, but you go eat at McDonalds, sit down dinner at Anthony's seafood, etc. there is a 1/2% sales tax that you pay that is dedicated to go to the stadiums.  As such everyone pays it. I have gone down this rabbit hole when it first quietly hit our sales tax and plenty of others here have complained about that it originally was supposed to only hit select businesses that support the stadiums, but the politicians here made it a blanket tax that everyone pays.
    • It isn't nearly as cut and dry as you're making it out to be. Below is a much better breakdown of how it was actually funded (Lumen Field, at least). A breakdown of the funding package: $130 million private investment led by Paul G. Allen $127 million from new, sports related lottery games, similar to the Mariners’ baseball-themed scratch games $101 million in sales taxes collected in King County attributable to events in the stadium/event center $1 million per year of in-kind advertising for the new lottery games will be provided by Paul G. Allen $56 million from facility admission and parking taxes $15 million from extending King County’s share of the existing hotel-motel tax Paul G. Allen agreed to pay for any construction cost overruns All excess stadium revenues will fund youth athletic facilities throughout Washington State in addition to a $10 million contribution from Paul G. Allen $14 million of the public contribution will come from interest earned on the $50 million private contribution from Paul Allen As an added measure, the debt on the Kingdome was retired, freeing property taxes for other purposes The way that reads, to me, is the sales tax is only for those who are attending events at the stadium. If that is correct, it seems like a fair way to publicly fund the stadium, by its users.
    • @oldshurst442 @ccap41 Good to know that some stadiums were paid for with private money. Old's I understand the Olympics and the money trap the countries / cities get caught up in, but I do appreciate the global competition in sports as my son was part of the U.S. Gymnastics boys team from the JO program all the way up to the full Olympic program in Colorado Springs before he retired as it did wear on his body. My disgust for Pro Sports comes from the NFL strike and the players complaining about how expensive it is to insure rare auto's and wanting more money, fancier places, etc. In Seattle, Nintendo, owners of the Mariners baseball team as well as the Seahawks got the taxpayers to not only pay for their stadiums, but for the maintenance and the proof is that pro sports DO NOT bring in greater money than the costs of these stadiums. While in some regards, I respected Paul Allen for his donations to various causes, as a billionaire I felt he should have paid for his own stadium. His sister who inherited his wealth and the ownership of the Seahawks had the nerve to tell Seattle they needed to continue to pay for maintenance of the stadium or she would look to move the team elsewhere. Greed like this is what has turned me off of pro sports, I enjoy College sports, but even there at the push to allow private money in with what I see as manipulation, this next season will be interesting to see how it goes as I might end up not bothering to watch or support College either. Interesting to see the latest info on this:   In the U.S., sports stadiums have been primarily financed through public funding, with many being built or renovated using taxpayer dollars. Notable examples include: Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, which received $380 million in public funding.  Milwaukee Brewers' ballpark, which is expected to receive over $400 million in public support.  Tennessee Titans' new stadium, which will have more than $1 billion in public bonds.  SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, are among the few NFL stadiums fully funded by private money.  The public funding of sports stadiums is terrible imho. Washington state funded the stadiums with a never ending 1/2% sales tax. So no matter how one feels, everyone that comes to this state funds the sports stadiums.
