Mountain Biking?

Recommended Posts

I've got a 3 year old Gary Fisher Marlin because, frankly, it fit into the budget. Also, its bright green. Better than a $90 Huffy, good enough to last until I can get the Trek that I covet.

I got my ass handed to me at Busiek State Park last week. A better bike would've helped a little bit, more skill would've helped a lot. Ah well, still no broken bones, which is more than I can say for a friend of mine.

I'm more of a road biker, but I do enjoy hitting the trails every now and then. I have a blue/magenta Roadmaster Mt. Fury that I got at Wally World 11 years ago. It's OK for the relatively light trail riding that I do, but I want better braking performance, and can't get it out of that bike, so I've been scouring craigslist for a good used disc brake equipped mountain bike.

I'll ride mine... err.. my dad's every once in a while (mine's been out of service for three years). They're both Mongooses and just for casual riding. The furthest ride I've done was only about 15-20 miles and was mostly hard roads... Flat, it was not, though. 1-2 mile long hills are a bitch, especially for my lazy ass. :P

I have a 24-speed Pacific USA "Strike" mountain bike with those grip shifters. It's been up on hooks in my garage since I bought my house, sadly. I think I took it down once, pumped up the dry-rotted tires, and rode around the neighborhood. Before I moved to PA, I used to ride it to a State Park about 7 miles from the farm. No major hills, nothing tricky, just a good ride. Edited by ocnblu

Funny...I've just started to get back into biking. I was just looking around and I might be interested in moving up to a nicer bike compared to my probably close to 10 year old GT something or other hardtail...
