As I have posted repeatedly, I grew up in LA and left a few years after finishing undergrad, largely because my entire family picked up and moved north. I went to Atlanta instead because that's where a decent job offer together with a relocation reimbursement presented itself

When I was a teenager, I thought movie star sightings were cool and that they must have it together...at least more so than the rest of us. I was never THAT taken by them, however. After I moved away and could see things clearly, I realized that a lot of them have poor values, low morals, don't know how to channel their money and fame, and, are generally pretty repulsive. This stretches from Elizabeth Taylor (before our time, at least for most of the active posters here) and her 8 marriages, vulgar diamonds, friendships with all of Hollywood's weirdos such as Michael Jackson all the way to today...with people like Britney Spears who is a piss-poor role model and basically a cheap slut fighting all that baby fat. The same holds true for many male actors who are so unnecessarily tragic, starting with Michael Jackson and including people like Robert Downey Jr. who for whatever reason kept bouncing in and out of jail and courtrooms.

Those people should work for about 10 or 15 years, try to stay out of the limelight, stash a bunch of cash and then do good deeds / live somewhere off the beaten path. Some have done that, and those are the FEW I admire. The rest of them still haven't figured out that they wipe their asses just like the rest of us.

Those are pretty extreme examples (although in her defense Miss Taylor has done a great deal of charitable work). There are 1000 working actors, singer and musicians who are nice normal people for every freakzoid you can name.

I voted "other".

For the most part, I simply don't care at all.

I certainly don't care about "celebs" or their personal lives.

I can appreciate a fine acting job or a great song, and I try to limit my interest in these folks to their art.

The one's that are celebrities "just because" don't matter at all - and that's how I treat them.

Really, the vast majority of them I don't have enough info on at all to pass any sort of judgement on other than acting or musical talent. I'd like to say I would be much more charitable etc than now if I had such financial means but I haven't been in their shoes.

Indifferent. Like with society in general, they're people. Some make good decisions, some make decisions, some do good deeds, some are selfish, some are outspoken, some keep to themselves and some and right in the middle of everything. Sweeping generalizations and stereotypes for them are just as off as most. Yes, I'm talking to you, Trina. :P

Personally, I think its the media, not the celebrities themselves that is the problem. I imagine having a camera catch your every move would be aggravating as hell. Every wrong move would be caught with very few normal or good moves making the stands. It makes people seem worse than they are. No one is perfect, afterall. I'm sure if any of us had a bunch of photographers taking pictures of everything you do, right and wrong, you'd look just as bad as they do.

Don't really care either, I like when there is a good actor in a movie but that's as far as it goes. I never follow any celebrity gossip; I don't know who's dating / married to who and all that and I really don't care. I think a fair share of them probably have inflated egos and wouldn't give you the time of day on the street.

Maybe so, but 8 marriages raises eyebrows (and qualifies one for Jerry Springer) and the huge diamonds are a vulgar display of wealth. Amazing that this flashy rag evolved from what started out as what they call an English Rose, which I guess means an attractive, demure and restrained young lady.

If thats what ruffles her tutu, then more power to her. Thats her life. I personally wouldnt want to pay the attorney 8 times over. Yikes!
