Here's a Good Question

Well, you can choose to buy one Prius for about $25,000 or ten Tata Nanos for the same price. Which would it be?

Pros:

  • Prius: Good gas mileage
  • Prius: You'll have celebrities wanting your car
  • Tata: Prestige 2 cylinder engine
  • Tata: You can have one hell of a good bumper car game
  • Tata: You could say you've got a nice set of Tatas...
Cons:
  • Prius: Well, it's a Prius...
  • Prius: Styled like a whale
  • Tata: "What's style? Our engineers didn't know either."
  • Tata: WTF is a Tata?

A real car to put in the back of your truck while you take long vacations.

Old timers will love it to put-put around the city. Imagine gray folks in Florida driving this instead of golf carts in their so called "Villages".

The power-to-weight ratio probably isn't bad... my diesel Escort probably weighed 2800lbs but had 52hp.

Honestly in US context this car is worthy of fun. But this concept as such is not bad for India. The fuel economy is not bad, it passes emmisions and safety requirements and it is decently powered for Indian roads where they see speeds hardly exceeding 60 Kmph (38 mph).

Plus given the economics, they may well achieve the target of 500K. A motorcycle roughly costs 60,000 Rs in India and they sell on the order of 2.5 million. If 20% of those people make jump to this thing then the target is right on spot.

The Chairman Ratan Tata is a great visionary, and he is a good strategist. He may succeed with this car.
