0% APR in Lue of Rebates

Recommended Posts

Even at that, no one will want the old metal with the 2007's coming in afew months. ALl the people who wanted these old beasts got them in the Employee Pricing sale. Then when then 07's are sitting around a while, of course the next ''blow out'', and on and on.... Big BOF SUV's are O-U-T, out, :P Case in point, Ford's "all new" Explorer is sitting on it's ass collecting dust.

rebates are only at 4k for the tahoes...

only 05's have massive rebates and thats okay, because its only a few...

red tag is not a rebate... red tag is a dealer authorized incentive...

it doesnt come out of GM's pocket. it comes out of the franchises pocket book

the franchise is supposed to only mak 100$ over invoice... where as GMS was 1500 below invoice, this came out of GM's pocket book...

okay I was thinking about this today... and for the average car owner... which costs GM more money the 4k rebate or 0%? I'm thinking the average owner will trade it in before the 4000$ in intrest would have been reached... there fore GM is accually making more money while appearing not to... "sure after 72 months you would have saved 6700$[not really sure just threw a number at the wall] in intrest... but you only kept the car for a year and a half before you bought the new 07's... you would have saved more with the 4000 rebate..."

If you're buying a car with the intention on keeping it for a long, long time, 0% is the way to go.

Our Bonneville is a few months from payoff - that's five years at 0% interest. Worked out for us.

It depends on your down payment, it's not that hard to figure out which option saves you more money.

nope... but that is only if you accually keep the car for the length of the loan...

if it gets totalled or you trade it in...

Exactly, which is why 0% for an extended time, only usually is attractive to the few and far between that know for sure they'll have the car for that full 5 or 6 years, no question, and won't either need to or get the itch to switch out to something else while in the middle of their payments.

Case in point, we could have done the 0% for 5 or 6 years, I think, when we were buying our '04 Suburban, but the instant $5k rebate knocked off the bottom line (making for a total $10k discount with the dealer's discount factored in), matched with a decent 5.5% loan, made for a more attractive deal for us. Mainly, the amount of the loan is lower to begin with and, if for any reason it gets demolished in a wreck or the desire to trade early comes up, there'll be a lower overall amount that needs to be payed off, than had the higher amount been financed interest free. I expect sales to slide..a lot.

Watching the major slide of the Explorer pretty much sums up what will happen
to the rest of the big SUVs....

Reabtes may not tap 10 grand-but they will get close.....

May we quote you, if gas prices are more stable in the near future we will see these SUV's return to some more prominance. Product is what sells. The Explorer is nothing exciting, has not much of a rebate.

Yep, if you want. :)

It is not so much the gas prices that will be the cause, as the trend itself is on
it way out. As I'm sure that there are people who learned their lesson (big SUV-high gas prices-swear tey will never going to do it again), the appeal of the smaller suvs and crossovers are becoming more and more popular....

Like you said, product is what sells. If the consumer wants a smaller, easier to drive, and better on gas suvs, they will get it.

They will sell, just not in as large as numbers...

As far as the Explorer, it doesn't have much going for it, Period.
Looks, or otherwise...
