  5. Mercedes-Benz USA reports July sales of 20,034 units Aug 1, 2018 – ATLANTA: Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported July sales of 20,034 Mercedes-Benz models, a decrease of 22.7% from July 2017. Mercedes-Benz Vans reported July sales of 2,921 units (up 5.9%) and smart reported 103 units, bringing MBUSA to a grand total of 23,058 vehicles for the month. On a year-to-date basis, sales of Mercedes-Benz vehicles totaled 178,882, with an additional 19,831 units for Vans and 753 vehicles for smart, bringing the sales volume to 199,466, a decrease of 4.4% from last year. "July sales were impacted by a number of factors, resulting in a temporary dealer inventory shortfall relating to our changeover to model year 2019," said Dietmar Exler, president and CEO of MBUSA. "We also experienced a mainframe outage which affected our dealers' ability to conduct business during the busiest week of the month. The IT recovery is nearing completion, and we are working closely with our customers and dealers to help alleviate any inconvenience resulting from the model year 2019 delays. While we expect to replenish our inventory levels in the fall, these developments will likely have a negative impact on sales in the coming months." Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in July included the GLE, GLC and C-Class model lines. The GLE took the lead at 4,447, followed closely by GLC sales of 4,446. The C-Class rounded out the top three with 3,841 units sold. July sales of Mercedes-AMG high-performance totaled 2,008 units, with 17,328 vehicles sold year-to-date. 12. The project of a trade war between the U.S. and China (along with the European Union) has many automakers on edge. Some are beginning to speak out about the possible dangers it may bring. Mercedes-Benz's parent company, Diamler AG announced yesterday that its full-year earnings will be slightly lower than last year. Their reasoning comes down to consumers in China buying fewer SUVs that are imported from the U.S. Most of Mercedes-Benz SUVs are built in Alabama. “Remember, for those following from a Trump/global free trade perspective, this is now a German car maker, warning on the profits coming from their Alabama-made SUVs, which are then sold/exported into China –- a complicated situation indeed!!” wrote Evercore ISI analyst Arndt Ellinghorst. According to Bloomberg, shares in Diamler dropped 4.4 percent on this announcement. Meanwhile, Volvo Cars CEO Hakan Samuelsson said the trade war could affect plans in the U.S. Speaking at the opening of the Swedish automaker's new assembly plant in South Carolina, Samuelsson told Bloomberg that Volvo would have to limit the number of models it sells due to threat of a 25 percent tariff on imported vehicles. “I would have less models to choose from and they would cost more -- that would be the consequence. Shorter menu and higher prices -- not a very good restaurant,” said Samuelsson. The factory in South Carolina will provide a small relief for Volvo if tariffs do go into place. Small is the key word as LMC Automotive estimates 87 percent of the vehicles Volvo sells in the U.S. next year will come from other places - Sweden and China. Samuelsson also warned that the trade dispute could mess up plans to create up to 4,000 new jobs at the new plant. "If you have trade barriers and restrictions, we cannot create as many jobs as we are planning to," explained Samuelsson. "We want to export and if suddenly China and Europe have very high barriers, it would be impossible. Then you have to build the cars there. And then all cars will be more expensive, you have to invest more tooling and have every model in every country. That's against all the logic of modern economies that trade with each other." 14. Yeah, I'm talking about V-Twins. Put them in a sporty bike that still likes to rev and they're great. V-Twins in bikes like these are fantastic.

  17. My second choice might be good for you. Kawasaki built it to be adjustable for people of different heights. There are 3 seating positions, three pedal positions, and two different handle bar positions available. You can ride out of the dealer with a bike literally customized for your particular stature. I took one out for a spin that was already set up for me and I thought it was a super comfortable bike. It runs the Kawasaki Ninja 650 2-cylinder engine and has a very interesting feel. On the used market, they are very inexpensive... generally between $4,000 - $6,000. The BMW I posted above runs $9,000 to $11,000 used, so it is harder to pull the trigger on that. Kawasaki Vulcan S

  18. I've been wanting to start this section for a while and never got around to it. This thread is for general motorcycle discussion. Feel free to add additional discussions to this forum for other motorcycle new/topics/etc as you see fit. Eventually, I plan to add news coverage and expand the section further.

  22. Naked sport bikes are the sweet spot in the motorcycle world. I absolutely LOVE them. There are so many of them now too. It used to just be a Ducati Monster or a Triumph Speed Triple. Not each brand has at least 1 or 2 and Ducati's entire lineup is naked sport bikes! Depends. Some people, like myself, feel more at home on a bike like that. I feel completely out of control on a typical cruiser with my feet out front. I'm also shorter to my on a crotch rocket isn't all cramped up like you would be on the same bike. The sweet spot, imo, is the naked sport bikes. They have actual handle bars and no clip ons and you sit up a little higher and they usually have foot controls a little lower as well so your legs are stretched out a little more as well.

  23. Nine R T? Or something along those lines? I love it. I finally convinced my dad to buy a BMW. He's wanted one all his life and last year he was just throwing the idea of a new bike(he had been on a Honda ST1300 since 05) and I said what about the BMW you've always wanted. Without even looking he said it cost too much blah blah blah.. I just grabbed my phone and checked some prices real quick and showed him and it peaked his interest like "No way? That's not out of reason at all". I told him to just finall buy exactly what you want because if you don't, you'll still always say "I want a BMW motorcycle some day". Two or three weeks later he test drove one and a week after he picked up his BMW F800 GT. It isn't the prettiest thing to me but he loves it. I think he puts around 5000 miles a year on his bikes as he commutes on it in the summer(only a 6 mile round trip to work). His doesn't have the center bag, yet. I'm sure he will eventually get one if my mom wants to ride on the back again.

  25. Some of us here have stated that we are headed for a Bear market, if not this fall by spring, start of summer 2019 at the latest. Not going political, but this is affected and the first wave of recession at least with the Bear market is being seen. S&P is almost at the level of 2007 when our Great 2nd Depression started and lasted till 2012. We are now seeing the start of job losses and request for bailouts from the Gov due to the Tariff wars. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2018/07/30/after-trumps-farmer-bailout-manufacturers-ask-what-about-us/?utm_term=.b952e8477808 https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2018/06/25/the-first-layoffs-from-trumps-tariffs-are-here/?utm_term=.99f29f83bc95 Companies in business since the early to mid 1800's are now being faced with possibly going out of business due to the inability to absorb the high tariff prices. Example is that Steel prices for local produced US steel have jumped 33%. US steel companies that were profitable jumped at increasing profit margins big time with the tariffs on steel / aluminum. 29,000 requests have been filed with the Commerce Department for exclusion from the steel / aluminum tariffs, the gov have only processed 1,317 so far. Half have been denials forcing companies to pay a 25% tariff on their asian sourced steel / aluminum. Result is that an 1839 Lawn care company that made their products here in America but did bring in some metal and other parts that are not made by any american company had to layoff 75 employees this summer due to a reduction in sales caused by the increase in prices to make and sell their products here. Asked for a bailout / being able to not have to pay the tariffs and denied. The company says if sales do not pick back up, they could be faced with closing the company by the end of the year. Currently the price tag alone to bail out companies hit by the Tariffs is pegged at $39 billion dollars. The white house says companies due to a strong economy can weather the storm till China gives into an equal trade agreement. Other companies in the stories above say they will be faced by Labor Day in making the hard decision to close their doors if they cannot find a way to stay competitive due to the increased costs. Another fall out that will hit hard is coming this back to school season as people will fins much higher prices on clothes to technology as we enter the fall season. To quote the story, Trump states Tariffs would help local US company Whirlpool in their appliance business, yet Whirlpool states that steel costs have risen far higher than anywhere else in the world here in the US causing disappointing earnings and validating that the Tariffs have canceled out any benefits the tariffs were meant to bring to the US. Farmers are demanding Trade, not aid in dropping the tariffs. Yet while the white house states that this will force other countries to negotiate with lower tariffs on US built products, so far it has had the opposite effect in increasing cost on US products making sales overseas all but dead. Enjoy reading the links above if you want to read even more on how this will affect us. A trickle down wave of stunted trade / sales is going to hit the US hard I believe in my own opinion on these stores. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/twin-wildfires-threatening-10000-california-homes/ar-BBLimcF?li=BBnb7Kz#image=AAz9KJh|16 Keeps getting worse, they now estimate 10,000 homes are in the line of being burned down between Napa Valley and Redding California. It could become the biggest fire in California history.
