  1. Maintaining the power, performance, driving range, durability, capability and stremf of the legendary Duramax engine, while adhering to righteous governmental oversight, GM today announces the 2020 Silverado 3500 HD! HOLLA!

  2. Had no time; as soon as I got set up to take the pic, the truck turned into a driveway. Square body Chevy, RC/LB, I believe it was a K30 1-ton, excellent matte green paint, silver bumpers with a quad of tie down rings per end, off-road tires, super clean & sweet all-business truck: This is the wife's '16 Malibu- so far so good. Still leery of a 240-some page owner's manual; the one for my '64 is only 36 pages:

  4. There was a LOT of this going on in the '60s. Ford had production SOHC big blocks, and Pontiac developed (but never produced) SOHC and DOHC 421 V8s also. There were other looks into OHC valvetrains, and of course Pontiac produced their OHC I6 for a number of years.

  5. @ocnblu Gotta be honest.. I've been a gear-head all my life.. but I don't get your hate of EVs. If they look good, go fast, and can handle.. I really don't have issue with them and see the positive ramifications for the future considering this planet is bordering on 8 Billion people. Get rid of half of them and the ICE is fine I guess.. but the environment simply can not sustain the ICE much longer. If your issue is being able to WORK ON THEM... tear one down.. and learn how it works. Ironically U have a Henry Ford Quote in your sig... here's another one.. that rings true and should be remembered as we move forward into the future “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” Anyway... As the industry continues to shift towards a CUV heavy line-up.. I love that GM is standing fast on still producing cars as well. Got me to thinking that perhaps the one things that FCA has done right is stick to their guns on design.. which sounds crazy considering that they really haven't redesigned much in the last 10 years. Think about it... their biggest sellers are the Challenger, Charger, Jeeps, and Ram.. all of which essentially look the same as they did 10 years ago. and none of which are riding on any new platforms sides a few augmentations here and there. THIS IS TOYOTA PHILOSOPHY that won them a lot of perceived positivity. Just keep improving on instead of re-engineering and there is no way the design/engineering can let U down.. because its the same thing over and over again. In fact.. people become used to it even if its nothing extraordinary and almost need it to look like that. BASICALLY if the Camaro had of stayed on ZETA or even switched to Alpha but retained this look (including the taillight assembly) sales would still be thru the roof:

  7. Well, I’m the one with the Henry Ford sig, but I do agree with you. We only have to look at the mega hurricanes so far to realize something has to be done... Besides, as long as we still have choice, things should be fine. ICE doesn’t need to go away, but I get the feeling EV will only continue to get better and cooler as well! But, as long as emissions can be controlled, I think ICE still has a place here at the table as well...... Actually, I would love to hear about the off road ones...nice change there.’ Like the Mazda and subie too.....

  8. Now that I look at it.. it was Dave quoting what U said. He does.. but my point still stands. EV is the way of the future.. or some derivative of it. ICEs running on Fossil fuels need to go. It simply is unsustainable Come to Baltimore.. areas such as Pikesville, which is a suburb. It literally has tens of thousands of homes just like that in the pic

  9. Lol...my Ford 4dr 'fetish' is for '69-72s, followed by '73-78s. Especially the police trim Customs, Custom 500s and Galaxie 500s. But I also like the LTDs and LTD Broughams. I like the clean, crisp lines and interesting dash designs of that era.

  15. I'm not surprised about the Cascada. It seemed like a one and done from the start and the only reason it was brought here was that it was on a Federalized platform and there was extra room on the boat coming over. The interior, while decent, was the very last of that generation of Buick/Opel interior to be released before they started doing the nicer ones we see today.

  23. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' Melfi plant is beginning to process of retooling to build a plug-in hybrid Jeep Renegade by 2020. The investment totaling 200 million Euros (about $229 million) will include modernizing the plant and training employees. FCA is planning to get pre-production models rolling off the line next year. Melfi is home to the Renegade and Fiat 500X production. FCA says the Renegade will become the third electrified vehicle in their lineup, following the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV and Ram 1500 eTorque mild hybrid. This is part of an effort to launch "12 electric propulsion systems (BEV, PHEV, full-hybrid and mild-hybrid)", adding that 30 different models would be equipped with one or more of these systems. No mechanical details were given on the plug-in hybrid system destined for the Renegade. Source: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Melfi Plant prepares for production of new Jeep Renegade Plug-in Hybrid The FCA Melfi Plant in Italy is beginning preparations to produce the Jeep Renegade Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) scheduled for market launch in early 2020. The Renegade PHEV will be produced alongside the Renegade and 500X full combustion engine products that are currently produced at the Melfi vehicle assembly plant. The pre-production units of the new Jeep Renegade PHEV are scheduled in 2019. The investment for the new engine launch equates to more than €200M and also includes a strong commitment by FCA for training all workers on the application of this new technology. The Plant facilities involved in the production will also be modernized accordingly. "With over 742,000 Renegades produced to date in Italy, the Melfi plant and the Renegade are the ideal location and the perfect product to launch the PHEV, further strengthening the offer of this highly successful Jeep", said Pietro Gorlier, Chief Operating Officer EMEA region. During the FCA Capital Markets Day on June 1, when the 2018-2022 business plan was presented to the financial community, it was stated that one of the most important change factors addressed in the strategic plan is electrification. Investments during the plan period result in a portfolio of technical solutions that will enable FCA to comply with the regulatory requirements in each sales region. At the same time, the technology will also be applied to enhance the specific strengths of each brand. The Renegade PHEV is the next step in FCA's roll-out of Electrification, following the launches of the PHEV Pacifica Minivan and the mild-hybrid e-Torque technology launched on the Ram 1500 truck earlier this year. By 2022, FCA will offer a total of 12 electric propulsion systems (BEV, PHEV, full-hybrid and mild-hybrid) in global architectures. Thirty different models will be equipped with one or more of these systems. London, 8 October 2018 View full article

  26. I doubt it- the test has 400 statements and must be scored & interpreted to determine anything. A friend/customer of mine co-developed the test, he was quite brilliant, but unfortunately he passed in February at 95 years of age. I wasn't aware, beforehand, how much he was involved in this area of study, as I would have loved to review the subject of my writings with him (unilaterally diagnosed as schizophrenic). I wonder now -with his credentials- if he could have obtained archived files on my subject.

  27. Actually I am liking all of the FCA lineup as of late. Pacifica I had for a weekend rental was awesome over 4 days and 1500 miles. If that is indicative of the products FCA wants to sell count me in.

  30. Correct: Ford offered them in '56, ran a 'safety' oriented advertising campaign but the take rate was pretty low (I have not seen any figures). They are listed way in the back of the '57 brochure, and one illustration of the interior shows belted occupants, but there is zero prose touting them in the brochure for '57. 1956: 1957:

  31. Ford is already selling all the F-150s in the US they can build. Maybe GM, with their falling truck sales numbers, should give it a go in the UK.... oh, no wait... they mostly pulled out of Europe except for Corvette and Cadillac.

  35. Just noting the attempted correlation of plastic to more volume, when clearly it's a matter of design, not material. 'Package space' is gobblygook; it cannot offer more volume in the same physical space. Sometimes the hyperbole gets tiresome.

  36. Regulation can indeed be a good ting. Seat belts were resisted when I believe it was Ford (Balthazar, are you out there?) first brought them out in 56. How many lives have been saved by seat belts?

  37. Agree on the Banality of the population, just head shaking. No not a mandate, just wish the auto companies would think about where they have the people look. Want to only offer a center stack screen fine, but their eyes should be straight ahead. Like GM did with Day Time running lights that are a great safety improvement to driving but never gov mandated that I know of as then everyone would have them and they do not. I just wish HUD was on all auto's as I think it would keep people paying attention to their real job. Driving safely.

  38. There's no 'mainstream exotic car culture' in the US either, but I see Maseratis weekly. I'm not saying Ford would need to sell 900K F-Series a year there, they could be exclusive luxury play things, like a Lambo. Rare, expensive, luxurious. Same segment as a Lambo, just with a tailgate. :D

  39. Speaking of Teslas, the 2nd Model 3 I saw (about 2 weeks ago) was almost in an accident when I saw it..the Millennial woman driving it was preoccupied w/ the touch screen and was drifting toward the lane divider as she was passing me...(I was in the center lane of a 3 lane freeway section)...I sat on the horn and she looked up before driving into the barrier...

  40. Still have to pay people to drive EV. The take-away from that is there will be strong opposition to the implementation of a ban. Median household income in Denmark is $38K US. People are not going to be able to 1. afford EVs unless heavily subsidized, and 2. not going to be able to afford conversion. Big Gov't likes to talk the talk, we'll see if the talk flies.

  42. I've never heard of a 'plastic' pan in 'Ye Olden Days of Yore', or prior to this century, but I'm not surprised there's already a number of examples already. Plastics encompass far more composition variants than steel or aluminum, and as for heat- if OEMs have worked out plastic intakes years ago on TOP of an IC engine, I have no worries about a plastic oil pan on the bottom end. Just take the propaganda in with a critical eye; the Daimler pan posted above isn't 30% larger capacity because it's plastic- if anything the plastic versions are obviously much thicker-walled. The shape is different.
