  3. The only problem with CPO or lightly used cars, is that everyone who is looking to get a nice CPO vehicle depends on all the people you guys criticize for taking hugely expensive loans and leases. So if everybody will be "smart" consumer than there will be not enough used cars. Actually, due to the high prices the used car market is already became worse. i think the biggest jump in prices happened when active safety became expected and mandated. It significantly raised the prices of even base vehicles, raised prices of repair and therefore the insurance. You guys can bitch about "you don't need all that stuff" you are "excellent drivers" etc, etc, but the fact is these devices work and save lives, which is their purpose. Same as it was with seat belts, better, more expensive car structure, air bags. All these previous safety features added to the cost of vehicles as well. historically Also, I thought this is an auto enthusiast forum, but it seems to me most people here are perfectly fine driving crappy old appliances. Believe me, I understand living within you own means, I have family and bills. However, I think if you are a car enthusiast than sometimes you need to make some different choices than everyday consumer. Just my $0.02

  5. They really don't need or perhaps want to be a volume player. Which is fine. I love the Audi TT even though it only sells in small numbers. I would love a Cadillac two seat sports car if it only sold in small numbers.

  6. From that article: Just by reading that very 1st paragraph, and really not giving two shytes about the rest of the article, still read it though, the only thing I got from it was... AINT IT THE AMERICAN DREAM TO BE AN OWNER OF A CAR???!!! SO WHY THE CONFUSION AS TO WHY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION ALWAYS SEEMS TO GET THE SHAFT IN AMERICA???!!! Im a hypocrite on this subject though. Im a HUUUGE advocator for public transport but I aint NEVER EVER...EVER gonna give up MY car to ride the damned bus and metro. Even if I worked downphoquingtown. I say I would take public transport if I worked downtown. But that is just a big fat LIE!!! Ever since I had 100% full access to a car, either my dad's because he retired or my very own not too long after he retired, I had stopped taking public transport and I NEVER looked back. I was 20 years old when that happened. I took the bus and metro a couple of times between the ages of 20 and 21, ONLY because I wanted, had to, study for exams, so I studied on the bus because I did not study the night before because clubbing was obviouly more important!!! But yeah. The good 'ole American Dream. Forget Uber and LYFT and all that. Owning a car and the freedom to go where the phoque you want will ALWAYS trump public transport. Which in turn, will also make UBER and LYFT go by the wayside too. The power of the freedom to use YOUR OWN CAR whenever YOU want wherever YOU wanna go without ANY waiting is too damn strong for even a network of autonomous driving vehicles to fail...We all happily put up with traffic and gridlock because the power of the freedom to use YOUR OWN CAR whenever YOU want wherever YOU wanna go without ANY waiting IS that strong...

  7. RE RoHall's garage, I think Horsey was right- 2 car families were not automatic then, and your garage was likely intended for 1 car and lawn stuff/whatever. My parents were married in '64, didn't get a 2nd car until... hmmm, might have to ask my pop. He had a '70 Catalina (bought new), then he picked up a used circa '72 Nova in the mid '70s, and I think he traded that on the '77 Safari he bought new- by then there were 3 kids.

  10. I don't think an Infiniti platform nor using the VC engine will help. It's all about branding. The QX30 is arguably more attractive than the GLA. It's also cheaper by a few grand. There is zero sensible reason to get the Benz over the Infiniti, yet the Benz sells more. Can't fix badge snobs.

  17. Or more accurately your government takes your cake. Even being of a normally more liberal bent...I think of Corey Booker your senator as a world class idiot. New Jersey can no more elect decent leaders than Hyundai can build exciting cars.

  18. Another Jerseyian here, so I can relate. Wife & I have already (jokingly) started talking about which states are a new possibility (most under the guise of ruling out those that aren't). Standard of living is very high and there's a ton of employment opportunity... but yeah; Jersey has 2 major cons: congestion and taxation. We're good staying until retirement, but the way the [usual politicians] continually crank taxes up on everything, they're bulldozing people to the borders. Whoever stated that 'economies of scale' lower prices has yet to explain how the most densely-populated state has the highest property taxes in the nation. My town would moan when one of the major corporations left, talking about ratables being down, so they had to raise taxes to compensate. Then a new, bigger corporation would settle in... and they raise taxes to provide services. I guess they assume no one is paying attention- too numb from the 10,000 needles into the vein.

  19. Just saying- why not embrace your identity- use Korean mountain names- fits better with 'kia', dudn't it? Further, kia could have korean holiday sales events, like 'Seollal Sales Days' Feb 4-6, and 'Chuseok Sales Days' on Sept 12-14; grab the shoppers who missed American holiday sales events. Makes sense. ;)

  23. My driveway slopes down and then there is a flat area to park the cars. Beyond that is a further hill covered in a forest of bamboo. Coming home last night the bottom of the driveway was iced over and I was going too fast. Almost ended up with the Buick in the Bamboo.

  24. Excellent points made here. If I can get my driveway re-shaped, I would like to own a CPO CT6 Platinum in a few years. Right now, it high-centers at the top of the driveway and I believe (I never got it down the driveway to find out) it would scrape at the bottom. Eff it... I just need to buy a new house with a flat driveway.

  26. I know some years Arizona has been #1 for moving into, whether for work or retirement...after living there, I'm not going back..can't stand the climate. Same with Nevada....I just can't stand the ugliness of the desert and the dry and heat. I do get a lot of headhunters pinging me about jobs in NJ/NYC, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Seattle (Amazon recruiters weekly pretty much). I have about 20 years to go until retirement...i'm happy in Ohio for now..

  27. NJ is the #1 state people are moving out of for jobs, retirement or a few other reasons. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/people-are-fleeing-from-new-jersey-more-than-any-other-state—heres-the-no-1-reason-why/ar-BBS7uMH?li=BBnb7Kz 46% of the residents who moved out listed Job as the deciding factor. 24% listed retirement, rather spend their golden years elsewhere. 22% listed moving closer to Family. 17% listed Lifestyle change. 5% listed health. Story says 67% of moves was outbound from NJ where 33% were inbound. Study says there is a large trend of residents leaving the NE for elsewhere in the country. The data aligns with longer-term trends of people moving to the south and west coast. One point from the study is that NJ is the 9th highest taxed state in the nation and for retirement, people can live longer on less by moving to states that are low taxed. Study does say that 5 of the 10 worst performing states from the Tax Foundation's State Business Tax Climate Index are in the NE. Fleeing NJ makes sense since it is one of the ten most expensive states to live in America. ? I do wonder where I will end up living once I move into working retirement mode. ?

  28. Yes, I can understand that...in a daily driver, I want the most creature comforts I can get...I couldn't imagine driving a depressing 4cyl FWD econobox w/ a despair gray interior... Public transit isn't really a realistic option here in the suburbs..there are bus lines that run into downtown Cleveland and a light rail, but nothing practical for me. If I were working downtown or in another suburb, I'd be commuting by SUV as I've done most of my career in other cities. I do like Uber, I use it occasionally if I don't want to deal w/ parking in some areas or want to have a few drinks at dinner. Very convenient.

  29. Here's the thing tho.. they at least offer the choices. I love Cadillac.. U know that.. everyone on the internet knows it.. but Cadillac needs more choices.. even if they were choices that are built off the other products they have and GM has. Hence the reason why I have no issue with the XT6 sharing bones with the Blazer/Acadia. There is no way a Cadillac Corvette should not be available. No way a CT4, CT5, and CT6 Coupe should not be avail. There is no way at least one Sedan-Coupe Convertible should not be available. Mercedes gives its customers choice.. so does Audi and BMW. Thats where the foot traffic comes in even if they leave with a E-Class or A6. They walked in to see an R8.. and left with an A6 or Q7. Audi/VW isn't mad at them either. Imagine that.. U walk into a Cadillac dealer to look at the new $150K+ C8 Cadillac XLR and leave with a fukkin $100K CT5-V.. Is Cadillac really gonna be mad? What if its vice versa? Either way.. U're right. It has long been my opinion that Audi's US sales are despicable considering the multitude of vehicles they offer here. 12 or 13 models and U are selling just over 220K... Audi's equivalent sales lead over the Cadillac brand literally was the available XT4 competitor Q3, XT6 competitor, Q7, and available sub ATS, A3. What if Cadillac simply had those cars.. or something in their places? I know U hate the idea of a sub-ATS, but those numbers could be made up if Cadillac simply had of marketed the damn ATS and sold 50K of them.

  33. Even with this reality, losing the cellar is not a good move. GM fullsize truck prices are exorbitant in nature, for example. They are trying to extort their loyal customers into paying for an iffy "future". Homie don't play dat.

  34. I do not think its the car manufacturers that are pricing the consumers out of new cars. I think its the consumer itself that does it. Why is it that Ford is cutting its sedans in favor of producing and selling CUVs and SUVs? Why is GM almost doing the same? Why are Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords selling at a slight lesser rate than once before and why is it that Toyota's and Honda's CUVs outselling their sedan counterparts? When was the last time you actually saw or heard a suburban wife talk about how she wants to buy (not lease, because leasing too causes the consumer to out-price himself out of a new car) a base bare bones compact car? It seems suburbanites all want the most recent, option filled truck or SUV and who cares how much it costs... There was a time when down and out folk used to buy pick-up trucks, no options pick-up trucks, because these were the cheapest means of transportation anybody could buy... The consumers DEMANDED fully equipped cars over the decades and have migrated to higher priced CUVs and SUVs and 100 000 doallr work trucks to outshine their neighbors... Even if car manufacturers make and produce "affordable" no frill CUVs, the masses will NOT buy them or lease them. America has become a voracious consumer oriented society that just wants to outdo their neighbor...

  35. Worst post ever....ever....by you folks from Jersey....obviously Both Ford and GM need a nitro-methane fueled quad turbo V twin for the Aviator and XT5...and this thing needs eight Turbos on a three cylinder variant of that same design. Would win over the Harley guys and the Drag racing guys both...as well as suburban shoppers in the heartland. Because somewhere in the black forest with elves and Elvis an Benz engineer is designing a similar power-plant. And we know if people don't ape the Alpha dog in the room...the wreath and crest, the Blue oval and the Ram all three will be gone in three to five years. Just sayin...

  36. 30 HP / 60 Trq = "basically the same" ? We've been over this before. Just slip a higher tune version in if its power one is looking for- there are 4 MORE Hemi's above the base 5.7L.

  38. The Continental lacks the smoothness of the concept. Those very subtle touches that differentiates a build quality of a true luxury brand versus a mainstream one. The Continental's body gaps look like they belong on a Ford. Not worthy of a Lincoln and certainly not worthy of the Continental badge. Continental Fusion The gaps look tighter on the Continental. Which is a step up on the Ford. As it should be. But on the concept, from Lincoln itself, Lincoln KNOWS how luxury should be, yet did not follow through on the production Continental... Concept It makes a BIG visual difference for someone spending huge coin on a luxury car. I think a longer wheelbase would have helped too.

  42. Since yet another thread about fantastic, authentic American product has been muddied with mention of the "E" word, I will circle back to the original subject. If I may, sirs. This truck is totally bad-ass! I would totally take a Tradesman regular cab 4X4 with chrome package and the Cummins (no "G" in Cummins) lower tune version. The Hemi is fine in this as well, imo. It is built for longevity and ease of service, not drag strip performance. GM and Ford's venerable, big cube HD truck V8's are the same. All of them do an admirable job.

  43. I can't believe the average new car payment is $538/mth. Here at Rancho Balthy, the highest monthly we've had over... 8 different vehicle loans is $249. Yet I build & price different new trucks and cringe at the payment which comes in between that low-mid $500 to low $600 range.
