  2. Tesla seems to be THE status symbol car brand of recent years. (not necessarily reflected in sales numbers, though).

  3. About the badge snobbery thing: there is no guarantee that anyone younger than 30 is going to want the same cars Boomers wanted, whether it was the 1980s or the 2010s. Therefore, there is no long-term guarantee that MB will be the standard by which all other luxury makes are measured. In ten years, Lexus may well become #1 and Genesis #2, with Cadillac, Lincoln and the Germans pulling up the rear. We just don't know. In 1980, nobody would have thought that MB/BMW/Audi would compete against Cadillac and Lincoln. In 1990, nobody thought the Japanese had a prayer against MB/BMW. How times have changed because of hard work and perseverance.

  5. Beautiful weather today. Planted some trees, enjoying a margarita now. Ordered some bbq, going to start a fire later. Enjoying isolation.

  6. Somehow I'm thinking they will build it, and it will have side windows the size of my phone and enough cargo space to fit a laptop.

  7. So then you admit that 50 years ago, what Mercedes built did not pay the bills and only cost them money! Got it!

  8. Ya know you want a Camaro EUV as much as a Ford Mach-e.

  9. Again, sidestepping the point here. Pretty sure your first sentence could be applied to 1950’s Mercedes in the U.S. See the problem yet?

  10. Stop with the EV propaganda! Maybe a Camaro EV, but very doubtful a Camaro EUV.

  11. Seems the Camaro EV is a real thing if comments and pic are to be interpeted correctly from GM. They are fast tracking not only the Hummer EV and Cadillac EV but a 3rd not shown EV that did not make it to the EV day at GM. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1128140_gm-has-fast-tracked-its-electric-vehicle-program-in-pandemic-slowdown

  14. So BP still uses the SOHIO brand name at marinas in Ohio, I've seen the signs in recent years. These towers about a mile from me (Independence, OH) were BP's Cleveland HQ for a number of years, they are now a Cleveland Clinic location, but the roof lighting at night is still BP green.

  15. So did Esso and Standard Oil of New York. These days, they are the union of Exxon (since 1972) and Mobil: nowadays ExxonMobil. I have quite a few Mobil stations in Florida and Exxon stations are all over the South. Their reach went national a long time ago.

  16. I have yet to see a date from China as a whole on banning ICE, just an annoucement that they will at some point. That video doesn't even offer one and has a clickbait thumbnail with 2040 on it.

  17. China has already stated 2040 is the final year for any new ICE auto's / trucks / buses to be sold. Many cities have already put in place earlier dates to stop the sale due to hazardous air quality. Same as Britain and France. Chin'a Chongqing Changan auto company has already stated with stock holder support for the stop of all sales of ICE auto's in 2025 as they will convert 100% to EV production by then. 2024 will be the end of manufacturing of ICE auto's with sales to end by Dec 31st 2025. https://www.wardsauto.com/chinas-chongqing-changan-halt-sales-ice-powered-cars-2025

  18. Naw 50 years or less. People are already creatures of habit in regards to plugging in at home for recharge overnight. Prices are dropping on batteries and EV components in big ways. Europe and China have already committed to this change, the US due to failed leadership in many different departments will end up following along as auto companies are not going to continue ICE auto's for 150 years. 20 to 30 years at best if not less. EV assembly is much less complex than ICE, higher profits will come with less manufacturing costs. Just makes business sense. West coast is already well staged for EV support in charging, Chicago just implemented a required charging parking spots on all buildings https://chargedevs.com/newswire/chicago-to-require-evse-ready-parking-spaces/ GM is fast tracking building EVs and opening up the plant due to less labor required, greater spacing between workers, safer working for the workers. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1128140_gm-has-fast-tracked-its-electric-vehicle-program-in-pandemic-slowdown Even reviews of PHEV show why moving away from ICE only auto's is a good thing. https://chargedevs.com/features/2020-lincoln-aviator-grand-touring-review-of-the-brands-first-plug-in-hybrid/ Electric Power Trains are far more efficient and getting better every day than ICE will ever be. Reduction in local pollution to air, ground, and home is better for humans. Yes I could go on, but I honestly think just like about 50 years to replace horses with ICE auto's, I see ICE being replaced by EVs in 50 but honestly less years. Future auto customization will be people taking their favorite old auto, removing the old ICE power train and converting to Electric.

  19. IMO China is going to dictate when EV's become the norm when they decide to end new ICE or hybrid vehicle sales there. Probably by the time battery costs have come down 50%.. I don't have a great guess for when that happens, probably within 20 years though given the amount of research happening.
    1 point
  20. It took about 40 years for ICE to completely replace horses. Two biggest reasons that made that possible was many more good roads and better manufacturing that made ICE vehicles much more reliable and cheaper. If money and effort will be invested to make charging infrastructure and more mainstream manufacturers enter EV market I think we will see a dramatic increase in EV vehicles. A simple fact from engineering standpoint, EV vehicle is about 70% percent efficient vs ICE efficiency of about 25%. Simply doesn't make sense not to use something that is better.

  22. No it doesn’t and no you haven’t. You were shown hard proof of Mercedes decades long struggle and basically dismissed it because of where they are at now. (Looks at Mercedes half baked van offering now this horrid excuse for an S Slass and thinks SMK should reconsider his statement regarding the competition.)

  23. They could call it the 'CamEro'... with the 'E' for EV, and capitalizing on the common misspelling.

  25. Not sure if anyone on this thread stated the following already, I didn't feel like reading every post especially with short story novel writer olds on here ? GM already has this with the "new" Chevy Blazer and that rendering of the Camaro EUV looks almost identical to a Blazer besides the Camaro taillights. Chevrolet decided around 5 yeas ago to riff on the Camaro front-end design with the Malibu and Cruze then with the new Blazer so it's pretty much already been done. No reason to call it a Camaro Z28-E or whatever it would be and I don't think GM would go that route anyway. Just build a Blazer EUV model on the new BEV3 skateboard platform and park it next to the Blazer ICE CUV on the lot and there ya go. Next.

  26. The 2020 Cadillac CT6 has a 10.2" infotainment touchscreen display in all trim levels and a 12" gauge cluster HD display in higher end trims. I've driven one, they're plenty big enough. Many like myself don't want the huge Tesla'esque finger print and dust magnet touchscreen panel. https://www.cadillac.com/search-inventory/ct6/details?x-symbolic=vdp&x-carline=ct6&x-modelyear=2020&q-sourcepath=/vdc-collections/2020/sedans/ct6/ct6/jcr:content/vdcVehicleInfoBlockConfig/vdcShoppingLinks#?radius=2000&models=CT6&years=2020&customertype=GC&makes=Cadillac&filterconfigkey=Cadillac-2020-CT6&requestedPostalcode=85351&postalcode=85351&vin=1G6KV5RJ2LU105934&filtermatched=exactmatch&primarydealerdistance=3.5&bac=279625&pagenumber=1&dealerSearchBy=bac&primarydealerid=279625&primarydealerpostalcode=85308&[email protected]&primarydealername=ARROWHEAD CADILLAC&primarydealerphone=6026353160

  27. Same rules apply to everyone. If you are going into a new segment as a challenger you better wow it. This is why the Toyota Tundra is a sales dud and the Detroit 3 trucks smash it. Tundra is dated, bland, no wow factor, no clear advantage over what is already there. Which is inexcusable with Toyota's resources. Even more so if you are launching a new vehicle into a shrinking segment. You have more room for error if you are going into a booming segment .

  28. Thanks for proving my point. Mercedes: The best or just copy someone else because their fans will just make excuses for it anyway or nothing.

  29. @smk4565—So now that a Mercedes, and a flagship Mercedes at that, looks like a Tesla on the inside and a dated Genesis on the outside, it’s okay and you’ll wait to see it in person? Funny how other cars, from other makes, don’t get the same leeway. Certainly you’ve never sat in a unreleased G80 yet seem to have plenty of negative judgement for it. Oh and in regards to your twenty pic deflection post, so what? Btw, the CTS became the CT5 so Cadillac hasn’t left the scene. Again, F Mercedes.

  30. ^ Please try not to quote a 20-pic post that's only a few posts above it. - - - - - So in other words- a copy of Tesla. Rear end shot looks like a 15-yr old camry. This is clearly some of the up-coming massive cost-cutting daimler was talking about.

  32. • I have a Champion Blower & Forge post drill, about 1905. It works very well but I haven't mounted it yet- need to sell off my 1940 Index No. 55 milling machine to clear a post. I believe it weighs 180 lbs. • My tabletop drill press is a Sprunger, maybe circa 1965-70. The 2nd of those 3 came to me free. Horse- would enjoy trading pics of your/my machines here...

  33. Same here. C5 Vettes also. I posted some C4 Vettes in another thread 2-3 weeks ago, and ever since then, I fell in love with them again. The early ones. 1984-1989. With the square flat front and concave back. And Ive been loving the C5 for about a week now when I saw one driving around. Saw the same one again just now. Literally. I just came home. I saw it 2 minutes before entering my home. I kissed the wife. She told me to disinfect my hands before kissing her, said hi to my kids and turned on the computer to log in this site, read what you wrote and responded to it with this lame post.
